The literature supports peer support and group study as beneficial strategies to assist nurses in preparing for certification exams. Nursing faculty frequently experience high levels of stress, workload demands, and burnout, which can negatively affect teaching effectiveness and retention. Literature supports resilience as a protective factor that enhances well-being and professional sustainability. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to impact resilience levels among full-time undergraduate nursing faculty through a self-paced online resiliency training program. Guided by Pender’s Health Promotion Model and Lewin’s Change Theory, this pre- and post-intervention design used the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10) to assess changes in resilience. Introduction: This research is in response to the human trafficking (HT) crisis. HT affects an estimated 30 million people worldwide. Nurses are one of the few constant contacts within the hospital for these isolated victims. HT patients may feel protected under the trusted care of nurses (Morris, 2023). Raker (2023) found that “academic nursing programs represent an ideal environment to deliver human trafficking training to future graduate nurses.” The limited instruction for students led us to create an HT simulation that is being taught in a senior level nursing course.

Traditional infrastructure systems are often designed for predictable scenarios, making them vulnerable to disruption when real-world conditions change unexpectedly. This research addresses that limitation by introducing Kinship Infrastructure Design (KID), a bioinspired framework based on the kinship coefficient (Φ). Adapted from studies of genetic relatedness in eusocial insects, the kinship coefficient (Φ) measures similarity and diversity among system components by calculating the degree to which their functional traits—encoded as a synthetic genome—match. This research investigates whether a system design can achieve a “Goldilocks Zone” of functional diversity where systems achieve optimal adaptability and coordination under uncertainty."

Population Health Research Brief Series

Mental health challenges are common among adolescents in the United States. This brief summarizes findings from a study using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), a nationally representative survey of middle and high school students conducted in 1994-1995. The analysis included over 17,000 students from 133 schools across the United States. The authors find that the mix of boys and girls in a classroom affects adolescent mental health and school satisfaction. When classes have more girls, both boys and girls experience better mental health outcomes. Boys in classes with more female peers are 10% less …

Guitarfish species (genus Acroteriobatus) display restricted distributions in undermanaged regions of intense fishing pressure. The importance of accurate specimen identification is well established, especially in the context of conservation management. However, guitarfishes remain poorly understood, which is exacerbated by taxonomic uncertainty due to morphological similarity. We therefore aimed (1) to identify molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs) within Acroteriobatus by analysing sampled specimens as well as publicly available sequence data for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and nicotinamide adenine dehydrogenase subunit 2 (ND2) genes, and (2) to augment and review the representation of these sequences on public databases. Human-induced climate change hurts people. Environmental burdens impact a person’s ability to live freely, in good health, and with loved ones. And in the United States, people in positions of political authority and decision-making—who are predominantly white and high-income—use the legal system to push environmental harms disproportionately onto low-income, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities. This has occurred for centuries and continues in the present. A basic sense of justice makes the following conclusion easy to reach: skin color, zip code, and pocketbook should not determine whether someone enjoys a clean and healthful environment.

BACKGROUND: Several US states have per se laws using 2 or 5 ng/mL of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) as cutpoints for driving under the influence of cannabis, while some have zero-tolerance statutes. These cutpoints are considered prima facia evidence of driving impairment.

METHODS: In a cohort of people who regularly use cannabis (N = 190) we measured baseline concentrations of THC after instructing participants to abstain from cannabis for at least 48 hours. Baseline driving performance was evaluated using a driving simulator. We also measured blood THC concentrations serially following a smoking session (placebo or active cannabis).

The pathway to energy savings requires coordination of technological progress and policy implementation. Specific factors are needed to bridge cross-disciplinary conversations within just one system. Regional public digital infrastructure and enterprises’ environmental management capabilities are incorporated into a research framework on digitalization and energy savings based on the theory of digital ecosystems. Objectives This study aims to develop a robust, targeted measure of patient experiences of person-centred care (PCC), informed by the lived experiences of patients with chronic illness using the psychometric theory of Rasch measurement. Faculty play a critical role in ensuring nursing students develop the knowledge and confidence to give medications safely. A needs assessment at the project site revealed that only course coordinators were teaching medication administration and dosage calculation, leaving other faculty uncertain about how to teach these skills. In this qualitative study, I interviewed four special education teacher candidates with a stated interest in enacting anti-ableist pedagogy in their student teaching placements. I drew on Holland et al.’s (1998) figured worlds to examine their attempts to enact anti-ableist pedagogy in their classrooms and their navigation of the hierarchy within their placements. Participants entered their student teaching eager to implement anti-ableist pedagogy. However, their attempts at implementation were often met with pushback from a variety of sources and a new understanding of how much they could actually accomplish from their place at the bottom of the school hierarchy. The novels Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde both present major themes of beauty, authenticity, and morality while maintaining their didacticism. This thesis comes as a surprise due to the beliefs and intentions of the authors, both of whom claim other motivations than the betterment of their readers. The parallels between these narratives ascribe to the fallible Victorian perspectives regarding external appearance and internal motivations.
