Acquired idiopathic megaoesophagus in dogs is rarely found in Indonesia. In this case report, a dachshund dog was presented with a history of vomiting after eating. Clinical examination, complete blood count, kidney, and liver tests identified only minor dehydration. On observation of the dog after eating, the sign reported as vomiting was confirmed as regurgitation. Radiography and contrast studies identified a significantly dilated oesophagus. With an absence of other clinical abnormalities, the dog was diagnosed with idiopathic megaoesophagus and prescribed treatment with sildenafil twice daily at 0.75mg/kg for five days, along with postural management of feeding. A 1-year-old castrated male Ragdoll who showed a series of vomiting and had reduced appetite presented to a local animal hospital. Hyperthermia and tachypnea were observed in physical examination, and leukocytosis was detected in hematological examination. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed an intramural mass with irregular echogenicity extending from the pylorus to the duodenum and loss of intestinal wall layer with regional lymph node enlargement. After exploratory laparotomy for biopsy and symptomatic alleviation, histopathological evaluation revealed densely infiltrated eosinophils within the branching and anastomosing trabecular pattern of collagen by several spindle-shaped cells. Encapsulation of sulfur in nanoparticles can potentially allow the delivery of high concentrations of sulfur to infections. A ten-year-old, 16.7 kg mixed-breed dog presented with chronic lameness and delayed healing of discharging wounds in the right pelvic limb following a puncture injury for approximately 6 months. Debridement surgery had been performed, but the tissue infection was persistent. Plain radiographic examination showed neither increased soft tissue opacity nor foreign body (FB) existence near the discharging wound of the right pelvic limb. Our research examined the effects of fish oil supplementation on intestinal permeability, systemic inflammation and performance in piglets. An lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge was done to stimulate the synthesis and release of the cytokines, in an effort to mimic the immune response that piglets would have when facing stress or pathogen challenge. Fish oil increased feed intake but did not affect growth when compared to control. Total fatty acid digestibility increased by 6% when fish oil was included in the diet. Background: Insufficient iron for erythropoiesis can occur in multiple conditions, including absolute iron deficiency, which is often caused by chronic external hemorrhage in dogs. Distinguishing this from other causes of iron-restricted erythropoiesis allows appropriate intervention. Decreased marrow iron assessed by Prussian blue staining is considered the gold standard to diagnose absolute iron deficiency but scoring systems are not validated in dogs. The prevalence of Non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria was assessed in samples of imported prawn and shrimp obtained from retail markets in Japan. The overall prevalence of NTS and ESBL producing bacteria was 4%, and 14%, respectively. We identified 4 NTS isolates, including S. enterica subspecies salamae, and 3 serovars of S. enterica subspecies enterica, including Weltevreden, Abony, and Stanley. ESBL producing bacteria were isolated from 14 of 100 samples, thirteen of which harbored Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and that harbored Chryseobacterium indologenes. Objectives This study used computer simulation modeling to estimate and compare costs of different free-roaming cat (FRC) management options (lethal and non-lethal removal, trap–neuter–return, combinations of these options and no action) and their ability to reduce FRC population abundance in open demographic settings. The findings provide a resource for selecting management approaches that are well matched for specific communities, goals and timelines, and they represent use of best available science to address FRC issues.
