Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Anti-cardiolipin (anti-CL) antibodies are autoantibodies which are directed against cell membrane phospholipids. A significant number of periodontitis patients showed positive for anti-CL antibody. Objective: This study aimed to determine the periodontal parameters and anti-CL antibodies levels before and after non-surgical periodontal therapy in chronic periodontitis. Methods: This cross-sectional study had been carried out at Periodontal Clinic, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, Malaysia. Thirty five chronic periodontitis (CP) and 39 non-periodontitis (NP) patients underwent clinical periodontal examination at baseline. Plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), periodontal pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were measured. Scaling …

Catechol-Containing Copolymers As An Active Ingredient For Denture Adhesives, Vincent Ying Wun Kong 2021 The University of Western Ontario

Catechol-Containing Copolymers As An Active Ingredient For Denture Adhesives, Vincent Ying Wun Kong

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Moisture inside the mouth adds challenge to making denture adhesives formulations. Some formulations have zinc to enhance adhesion on wet skin despite knowing the health hazards. Inspired by mussel foot proteins’ catechol unit’s strong underwater adhesion, nine catechol-containing copolymers (P1A-P3C) were synthesized by free radical polymerization of 3,4-dimethoxystyrene (3,4- DMS) with different styrene derivatives followed by deprotection. P1A-P3C were used to make Fn(P)-C-PBS denture adhesive formulations which had suitable shear stresses around ≥ 5 kPa satisfying ISO 10873. In-situ NMR studies of free radical polymerization of 3,4 - DMS and styrene derivatives allowed computation of their reactivity ratios showing all …

Objectives
This study used micro-computed tomography (µCT) to compare voids and interfaces in single-cone obturation among AH Plus, EndoSequence BC, and prototype surface pre-reacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) sealers and to determine the percentage of sealer contact at the dentin and gutta-percha (GP) interfaces. Materials and Methods
Fifteen single-rooted human teeth were shaped using ProTaper NEXT size X5 rotary files using 2.5% NaOCl irrigation. Roots were obturated with a single-cone ProTaper NEXT GP point X5 with AH Plus, EndoSequence BC, or prototype S-PRG sealer (n = 5/group). Results
The volumes of GP, sealer, and voids were measured in the region …

Characterization Of Dental Pulp Stem Cell Responses To Functional Biomaterials Including Mineralized Trioxide Aggregates, Sejin Bae, Bueonguk Kang, Hyungbin Lee, Harrison Luu, Eric Mullins, Karl Kingsley 2021 University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Characterization Of Dental Pulp Stem Cell Responses To Functional Biomaterials Including Mineralized Trioxide Aggregates, Sejin Bae, Bueonguk Kang, Hyungbin Lee, Harrison Luu, Eric Mullins, Karl Kingsley

Dental Medicine Faculty Publications

Introduction: Many studies in stem cell biology have demonstrated that dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) may be highly proliferative and capable of pluripotent differentiation into many different tissue types. Recent advances in stem cell research have outlined methods for directing in vitro or in vivo growth, viability, and proliferation, as well as differentiation of DPSC-although much remains to be discovered. Based upon this information, the primary objective of this study was to understand the functional biomaterials needed to more effectively direct DPSC viability, growth, and proliferation. Methods: Using an approved protocol, previously collected and isolated samples of DPSC from an …

A Critical Review And Finite Element Study Of Structural Relaxation In Veneered 3y-Tzp Dental Structures, Prashant S. Shelar 2021 Western University

A Critical Review And Finite Element Study Of Structural Relaxation In Veneered 3y-Tzp Dental Structures, Prashant S. Shelar

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Yttria stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (3Y-TZP) materials veneered with porcelain are preferred for clinical practice due to their bio-functionality, biocompatibility, and affordability. However, these materials are often subjected to premature clinical failures due to combination of subsurface flaws and tensile stresses within porcelains. This work focuses on performing a critical literature review and evaluating veneer characteristics, i.e. structural relaxation, to form a suitable explanation for the development of subsurface stresses. User material subroutines, UEXPAN and UTRS are developed, validated and integrated in ABAQUS finite element solver. With the use of validated models, it is shown that faster cooling rates and …

The Relative Occlusal Force Of Natural Tooth Adjacent To Distal Extension Implant Support Fixed Prosthesis Using T-Scan Analysis : A Cross Sectional Study, Chin Purintarapiban 2021 Faculty of Dentistry

The Relative Occlusal Force Of Natural Tooth Adjacent To Distal Extension Implant Support Fixed Prosthesis Using T-Scan Analysis : A Cross Sectional Study, Chin Purintarapiban

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to compare the relative occlusal force between implant in the distal end and tooth adjacent to implant in maximum intercuspation. Methodology: Patients with implant restoration replacing teeth in free end space adjacent to natural tooth were recalled. The occlusion is examined as shim stock passes through the occluded tooth in heavy or light bites. The heavy bite or a light bite with shim stock that cannot pull through is HB1 or LB1. If the shim stock can pull through it is considered HB0 or LB0. The implant is classified into 3 groups, HB1LB0, HB1LB1, and …

Comparative Evaluation Of Apical Extrusion Debris And Irrigant During Calcium Hydroxide Removal And Endodontic Instrumentation Using Three Types Of Instrumentation Systems, Selen İnce Yusufoğlu, Esma Saricam

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Many root canal preparation techniques and instruments produce apically extruded materials to a certain extent depending on the preparation system adopted. The extrusion of debris from the apical foramen during chemomechanical preparation may cause postoperative pain and failure of endodontic treatment. Objective: This study evaluates the differences in the apical extrusion of debris and calcium hydroxide (CH) during endodontic instrumentation by using Reciproc Blue (RB), WaveOne Gold (WOG), and F6 Skytaper (F6). Methods: Six experimental study groups (n = 13) were established. The root canal procedures for all groups were prepared with different methods: Group I: One Shape (OS) instrumentation, …
