An Extended Fuzzy Discrete Event System For Hiv/Aids Treatment Regimen Selection, Kiattisak Wongsopanakul

Wayne State University Dissertations

HIV/AIDS is a global problem. Its treatment is dependent on the physician experts' opinion. A system which is capable of supporting the treatment decision will be desired. Recently, the HIV/AIDS treatment regimen selection system appeared in literature that utilized theory of fuzzy discrete event system (FDES) to capture the meaning of experts' knowledge; a form of consensus involving estimated points and type-1 fuzzy sets. The goal was to assign exact matching regimens as close as possible to those regimens preferred by the experts for patients. The system performance was 80% of satisfaction level with the 35 retrospective patients. Extracting experts' …

The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is fast, flexible and efficient solution to voltage sag problem. The DVR is a power electronic based device that provides three-phase controllable voltage source, whose voltage vector (magnitude and angle) adds to the source voltage during sag event, to restore the load voltage to pre-sag conditions. The DVR is designed for protecting the whole plant with loads in the range of some MVA. The DVR can restore the load voltage within few milliseconds. Several configurations and control methods are proposed for the DVR. In this paper, an overview of the DVR, its functions, configurations, components, …

Switch-Less Dual-Frequency Reconfigurable Cmos Oscillator Using One Single Piezoelectric Aln Mems Resonator With Co-Existing S0 And S1 Lamb-Wave Modes, Chengjie Zuo, Jan Van der Spiegel, Gianluca Piazza 2011 University of Pennsylvania

Switch-Less Dual-Frequency Reconfigurable Cmos Oscillator Using One Single Piezoelectric Aln Mems Resonator With Co-Existing S0 And S1 Lamb-Wave Modes, Chengjie Zuo, Jan Van Der Spiegel, Gianluca Piazza

Chengjie Zuo

For the first time, this work demonstrates a switch-less dual-frequency (472-MHz and 1.94-GHz) reconfigurable CMOS oscillator using a single piezoelectric AlN MEMS resonator with co-existing S0 and S1 Lamb-wave modes of vibration. High performances (high Q and kt2 for a resonator and low phase noise for an oscillator) have been achieved for both the resonator and oscillator in terms of dual-mode operation. Especially, the 1.94-GHz operation has the best phase noise performance when compared with all previously reported CMOS oscillators that work at a similar frequency.

Improve Design For Automated Tajweed Checking Rules Engine Of Quranic Verse Recitation: A Review, Noor Jamaliah Ibrahim, Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff, Zaidi Razak, Rosli Salleh

Noor Jamaliah Ibrahim

Generally, reliable speech recognition is a hard problem that required a combination of many techniques. Thus, the combinations of Al-Quran with speech recognition system is quite challenging task to be implemented. It is because the Quran sound, which had been recited by most of recitors will probably tend to differ a lot from one person to another. Although those Quranic sentence were particularly taken from the same verse, but the way of the sentence in Al-Quran been recited or delivered may be different, depend on recitors with the different levels of understanding of Tajweed rules. This paper seeks to provide …

Adaptive Discrete-Time Controller Design With Neural Network For Hypersonic Flight Vehicle Via Back-Stepping, Bin Xu 2011 Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Adaptive Discrete-Time Controller Design With Neural Network For Hypersonic Flight Vehicle Via Back-Stepping, Bin Xu

Bin Xu

In this article, the adaptive neural controller in discrete time is investigated for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic hypersonic flight vehicle. The dynamics are decomposed into the altitude subsystem and the velocity subsystem. The altitude subsystem is transformed into the strict-feedback form from which the discrete-time model is derived by the first-order Taylor expansion. The virtual control is designed with nominal feedback and neural network (NN) approximation via back-stepping. Meanwhile, one adaptive NN controller is designed for the velocity subsystem. To avoid the circular construction problem in the practical control, the design of coefficients adopts the upper bound instead …

Adaptive Neural Control Based On Hgo For Hypersonic Flight Vehicles, Bin Xu 2011 Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Adaptive Neural Control Based On Hgo For Hypersonic Flight Vehicles, Bin Xu

Bin Xu

This paper describes the design of adaptive neural controller for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic hypersonic flight vehicle (HFV) which are decomposed into two functional systems, namely the altitude subsystem and the velocity subsystem. For each subsystem, one adaptive neural controller is investigated based on the normal output-feedback formulation. For the altitude subsystem, the high gain observer (HGO) is taken to estimate the unknown newly defined states. Only one neural network (NN) is employed to approximate the lumped uncertain system nonlinearity during the controller design which is considerably simpler than the ones based on back-stepping scheme with the strict-feedback …

Task Allocation For Multi-Spacecraft Cooperation Based On Estimation Of Distribution Algorithm, Bin Xu 2011 Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Task Allocation For Multi-Spacecraft Cooperation Based On Estimation Of Distribution Algorithm, Bin Xu

Bin Xu

One two-stage task allocation strategy is proposed for multi-spacecraft cooperation during the long-range orbit transfer with two impulses. This paper focuses on the task value maximum and cost minimum optimization by assigning spacecraft to different task. At the first stage time and energy cost are considered based on the spacecraft dynamics. The optimization result is together with the target value as the factor for the task allocation model at the second stage. The optimization is processed separately in continuous and discrete time domain with estimation of distribution algorithm (EDA). Different task allocation mode is formulated and the strategy is verified …

Composite Control Based On Optimal Torque Control And Adaptive Kriging Control For The Crab Rover, Bin Xu 2011 Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Composite Control Based On Optimal Torque Control And Adaptive Kriging Control For The Crab Rover, Bin Xu

Bin Xu

Terrainability is mostly dependant on the suspension mechanism and the control of a space rover. For the six wheeled CRAB rover, this paper presents the composite control design with torque control and adaptive Kriging control to improve the terrainability, somewhat related to minimizing heel slip. As CRAB is moving slowly, the torque control is processed by minimizing the variance of the required friction coefficient based on the static model. Adaptive Kriging control is used to track the commanded velocity. The system uncertainty is compensated by Kriging estimation based on the velocity dynamics. Experiment results with two different tires show the …

Adaptive Hypersonic Flight Control Via Back-Stepping And Kriging Estimation, Bin Xu 2011 Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Adaptive Hypersonic Flight Control Via Back-Stepping And Kriging Estimation, Bin Xu

Bin Xu

This paper investigates the adaptive Kriging controller for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic hypersonic flight vehicle (HFV). For the altitude subsystem, the dynamics are transformed into the strict-feedback form where the backstepping scheme is employed. Considering the nonlinearity of the dynamics, the nominal feedback is included in the controller while Kriging system is designed to estimate the uncertainty. With the proposed controller, the almost surely bounded stability is guaranteed. The simulation study is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.

Kernel Regression In The Presence Of Correlated Errors, Kris De Brabanter, Jos De Brabanter, Johan A.K. Suykens, Bart De Moor 2011 KU Leuven

Kernel Regression In The Presence Of Correlated Errors, Kris De Brabanter, Jos De Brabanter, Johan A.K. Suykens, Bart De Moor

Kris De Brabanter

It is a well-known problem that obtaining a correct bandwidth and/or smoothing parameter in nonparametric regression is difficult in the presence of correlated errors. There exist a wide variety of methods coping with this problem, but they all critically depend on a tuning procedure which requires accurate information about the correlation structure. We propose a bandwidth selection procedure based on bimodal kernels which successfully removes the correlation without requiring any prior knowledge about its structure and its parameters. Further, we show that the form of the kernel is very important when errors are correlated which is in contrast to the …

The luminescent complexes of triphenylphosphine and two interesting aminomethylphosphines: P(CH2N(CH2CH2)2NCH3)3 and P(CH2N(CH2CH2)2O)3 with copper(I) iodide and 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmp): [CuI(dmp)PPh3], [CuI(dmp)P(CH2N(CH2CH2)2NCH3)3] and [CuI(phen)P(CH2N(CH2CH2)2O)3] are presented in this work. These complexes were characterized in solution by means of NMR spectroscopy and their structures were crystallographically determined in the solid state. All complexes crystallize as the discrete dimers bound by π-stacking interactions between dmp rings. The coordination geometry about the Cu(I) centre is pseudo-tetrahedral showing small flattening and large rocking distortions. The investigated compounds exhibit intense orange photoluminescence in the solid state (emission peaks at r.t.: λmax = 588–592 nm; τ = 1.7–2.2 …

Long Term Resource Planning For Electric Power Systems Under Uncertainty, Sarah M. Ryan, James D. McCalley, David L. Woodruff 2011 Iowa State University

Long Term Resource Planning For Electric Power Systems Under Uncertainty, Sarah M. Ryan, James D. Mccalley, David L. Woodruff

Sarah M. Ryan

Electric power systems are subject to uncertainties of many types and at many levels. In addition to the uncertain fuel prices, demand growth, and equipment outages included in traditional models, current trends portend increasing uncertainty due to such factors as the growth in generation from renewable sources which may be intermittent, the possibility of regulations to control carbon emissions, and the increasing price responsiveness of demand encouraged by smart grid technologies. This paper begins by discussing issues that confront electric system planners and explains the requirements for useful tools. We continue with a description of academic and commercial planning models …

Influence Of Reactive Atmosphere On Properties Of Cobalt Ferrite Thin Films Prepared Using Pulsed-Laser Deposition, A. Raghunathan, David C. Jiles, J. E. Snyder 2011 Cardiff University

Influence Of Reactive Atmosphere On Properties Of Cobalt Ferrite Thin Films Prepared Using Pulsed-Laser Deposition, A. Raghunathan, David C. Jiles, J. E. Snyder

David C. Jiles

A series of cobaltferrite (CFO) thin films were grown on SiO2/Si(100) substrates using pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) at substrate temperature (T DEP) of 250 °C and oxygen pressures (P O2) from 0.67 to 6.7 Pa. The influence of PO2 on crystal structure, phase mixture, deposition rate, and magnetic properties was investigated. It is shown in this study that there is a window of PO2 for optimized growth of nanograined CFO films at low T DEP and that either higher or lower values of PO2 produce undesirable multiphase mixtures. CFO filmsgrown at such low substrate temperature and optimized oxygen pressure on thermal …

Evaluation Of The Transient Potential Drop Of A Four-Point Probe, John R. Bowler 2011 Iowa State University

Evaluation Of The Transient Potential Drop Of A Four-Point Probe, John R. Bowler

John R. Bowler

The time-dependent voltage across the pick-up electrodes of a four point probe has been determined analytically for a transient current pulse injected into a thick conductive plate modeled as a half-space. This is a step towards analyzing more complex transient four point probe signals from measurements on inhomogeneous conductors. Potential applications include the evaluation of depth-dependent conductivity profiles in metals and semiconductors. The analysis of homogeneous conductors shows how the signals are characterized by a time constant of the drive current and additional time constants dependent on the electromagnetic material properties and electrode spacings

2d Gaussian Object Motion Detection, Miguel Angel Chaidez 2011 University of Texas at El Paso

2d Gaussian Object Motion Detection, Miguel Angel Chaidez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Dr. John Moya, and associated research assistants, have previously created an image-change recognition algorithm (JESSE) to mark changes within an image. The focus of this thesis is to present a physical application and modification of this algorithm in order to detect a surgeon's hand and verify chip placement on a printed circuit board.

There are different techniques in implementing visual recognition and motion detection with smart systems but the high cost and complicated calibration of these systems make them impractical. The goal was to create a system that is simple, inexpensive and applicable to multiple applications that will allow the …
