Students’ Perceptions Of An Embedded Librarian In The Doctor Of Business Administration Program, Christine E. Woods

The purpose of this study was to investigate students’ perceptions of an embedded librarian in a Doctor of Business Administration program at a private, Catholic, doctoral-granting university in the Southeast. Quantitative methods were used via an online anonymous survey invitation sent to 137 DBA students using university email addresses. There were 44 students who completed the survey for a 32% response rate. Results of the study indicated almost all students perceived the embedded librarian as helping them complete coursework and improve their research and citation abilities. Ripe For Harvest: Data Harvesting And The Need For E-Lending Privacy Legislation, George M. Farris

Digital lending has revolutionized libraries, adding a trove of available titles and increased accessibility and convenience to patrons. However, handling of patron privacy when utilizing e-lending services is an area that has not received much attention. This paper examines reasons why libraries and patrons alike should be concerned about privacy and the harvest of data when engaging in e-lending through a non-library entity. Examples of mishandling of patron data are discussed in this paper. Recommendations for legislative and non-legislative actions that libraries can take to uphold the American Library Associa-tion core values of intellectual freedom and privacy are also discussed. …

Usability, Visibility, And Style: Libguides Usability Testing To Support Students’ Needs, Tera A. Ray

The study aimed to discover the level of knowledge students have regarding LibGuides, the preferred navigational layout, and how students use guides to conduct research. Ten undergraduate students par-ticipated in a mixed-methods study consisting of semi-structured interviews and usability tasks. The study revealed that the usability test was the first time any of the participants had interacted with a guide, resulting in data free from bias or previous experience. Participants did not exhibit a clear prefer-ence for navigation style, and an emphasis was placed on the importance of an aesthetically pleasing design and a functional search bar. In 1994, Stewart Brand introduced the concept that buildings “learn” or adapt to their changing uses and circumstances over time through addressing maintenance, fixing mistakes, and adding enhancements. This article builds on Brand’s work by applying the concepts to one academic research library that has experienced additions and renovations based on changing assumptions through time of what the build-ing should provide and support. These changes were possible because the building was designed with an open structure that supports change and thus has allowed it to learn and adapt in a financially and envi-ronmentally sustainable manner. The opaqueness of author naming and ordering, when coupled with power dynamics, can lead to a number of disadvantages in academic careers. In this commentary, we investigate gender differences in authorship experiences in a large prospective meta-analytic study (k = 46; n = 3,565; 12 countries). We find that women’s and men’s authorship experiences differ significantly with women reporting greater prevalence of problematic behaviors. We present seven actionable recommendations for improving the receipt and reporting of intellectual credit. Such actions are needed to ensure fairness in authorship, which is one of the most powerful factors in academics’ career outcomes.

The competitive push for business schools to publish in prestigious journals has resulted in a disproportionate number of papers in prestigious Management and Operations Research/Management Science (OR/MS) journals coming from a select group of institutions. Our analysis shows the Matthew effect of prestigious journals favors established schools with 51.2% of papers in 18 Management ABS 4* journals and 61.3% of papers in 3 OR/MS ABS 4* journals involving authors from the 100 top business schools identified by the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Citation patterns are similarly concentrated among papers authored by scholars from UTD-listed business schools, with nearly …

Research on academic capitalism has critiqued the commodification of knowledge, but it has not critiqued assetization. The difference between commodification and assetization is more than a technical distinction. Extracting value from assets requires a different regime of coordination than what is required for extracting value from commodities. Through an analysis of 132 texts related to the online course review process at 16 research universities in the USA, I propose and problematize an online learning assetization regime which transforms discipline-based knowledge into digital content that can be owned, controlled, and managed as a university asset. Web accessibility has been a topic of discussion in organizations for decades. Much ink, physical and digital, has been spilled urging developers, designers, and web administrators to build their online environment so that users of all abilities can access their content. Despite this, web accessibility remains out of reach across swathes of the Internet. The organization WebAIM conducts annual studies reviewing the accessibility of the 1,000,000 most popular websites’ homepages.1 The results for 2025 found that these pages had an average of 51 errors per page. This paper is about The Feminist Digital Center (FDC). We begin by briefly theoretically situating our project in discussions of feminist and open pedagogy, high impact practices, and digital scholarship. Next, we discuss how the FDC came to be, institutionally and digitally, with particular emphasis on the assignments students did to fill the site. We close with why the site matters. We hope readers will attempt some version of this project at your institutions and find value in the model we share.

Background

Research findings must be representative by creating a sample of individuals, ensuring the results can be generalized and applicable to a larger population, which has historically been guided by a power analysis. However, the varied research design methods require a unique approach to sampling and a formula for recruitment and size. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze historical data from published manuscripts in the Journal of Athletic Training (JAT) relative to study design and sample sizes. A secondary purpose was to further explore metrics for survey-based research.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded in healthcare applications, concerns have emerged around the trustworthiness, interpretability, and context-awareness of these systems. Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS) hold considerable potential to address these challenges by supporting semantic standardization, explainability, and domain alignment. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of scholarly publications referencing both AI and healthcare concepts to examine how KOS are positioned within this evolving discourse. The findings indicate that while early literature frequently and explicitly referenced KOS—such as ontologies, controlled vocabularies, and classification systems—their visibility has declined relative to newer paradigms such as machine learning and large language models. …

Generative large-language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and Claude have sparked debate throughout higher education about their potential and threats to the current pedagogical models for research. This paper scans the literature on the benefits and drawbacks of using LLMs in teaching and research, and compares and contrasts two literature reviews on the subject, one written by a human author and one produced by Claude. The comparison explores areas where the generative AI excels, such as quickly summarizing points of agreement across sources, as well as its limitations, like struggling with synthesis, providing incomplete citations, and hallucinating false information.
