An Integrated Model Of Household Flow-Of-Funds Allocations, David Backus, Douglas D. Purvis
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
This paper extends the multivariate stock-adjustment model commonly used in empirical studies of portfolio behavior in order to analyze the complete set of flow allocation decisions made by households (including consumption, expenditures on durables and houses, and various financial aggregates). The model is then confronted with quarterly household sector data from the United States Flow of Funds Accounts for the period 1954 to 1975. Besides presenting OLS estimates, we test parameter restrictions suggested by our theoretical structure; the data supports the view that the explanatory power of the model is enhanced by allowing non-zero cross-effects on interest rates and lagged …

The Determinants And Control Of Money Stock In Nigeria, E. O. Akinnifesi, Toyin Phillips
Economic and Financial Review
The paper is divided into five sections. Section I reviews Central Bank's monetary control measures as adopted since 1959 thus highlighting the successes and limitations of the Policy instruments. Section II presents a brief review of the controversy between the "monetarists" and the " fiscalists" so as to provide some theoretical underpinnings for this study, while Section III actually deals with the specifications of the behavioural functions. The empirical results are presented in Section IV and the last section summarises the findings and the conclusions thereupon.

Devaluation And Balance Of Payments In Ecowas Countries: A Study Of Nigeria's Exchange Rate Policy, C. C. Ozumba
Economic and Financial Review
The purpose of this paper is to review Nigeria's exchange rate policy as outlined above, and in doing so, one finds it compelling, and hopefully rewarding, to take a general look at the exchange rate policies in selected African countries, focusing particularly on the effects of devaluation on balance of payments. Accordingly, the paper first presents an analytical framework in which a monetary approach is considered most useful. The next section introduces a simplified monetary model. Following that, there is a discussion of statistical testing and results. The final section considers the implications for policy in Nigeria, appraising in some …

It has been of some interest to the profession of social work that eligible persons underutilize or fail to use social services and benefits to which they are legally entitled. A number of different reasons have been cited in the social work literature and otherwise generally accepted within the ranks of the social work profession as possible or probable causes of underutilization or lack of use. The variety of reasons includes client lack of knowledge about programs, lack of motivation on the part of eligible clients to apply for benefits and services, client unawareness about legal recourse in securing services, …
