Human Capital As A Driving Force For Economic Growth In Gcc Countries: Pooled Mean Group Estimation, Mohamed Sharif Bashir Elsharif

This study explored the relationship between human capital metrics and economic growth in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries from 2000 to 2022. This research utilized a pooled mean group-autoregressive distributed lag approach to empirically assess the influence of selected macroeconomic factors—specifically human capital, gross capital formation, government expenditure on health and education, and foreign direct investment (FDI)—on gross domestic product. The results indicated that, in the short term, all human capital indicators positively impacted economic growth, except for FDI. Grounded in five-P theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the strategies that some leaders in construction companies use to implement change initiatives successfully. The participants consisted of five business leaders from three construction companies who have successfully implemented change initiatives within their organization. It is often observed that once the object for sale is turned down by one or more agents, those that follow do the same. One explanation for this phenomenon is that agents making choices further down the line rationally ignore their own assessment of the object and herd behind their predecessors. This paper considers nonparametric estimation and inference in first-order autoregressive (AR(1)) models with deterministically time-varying parameters. A key feature of the proposed approach is to allow for time-varying stationarity in some time periods, time-varying nonstationarity (i.e., unit root or local-to-unit root behavior) in other periods, and smooth transitions between the two. The estimation of the AR parameter at any time point is based on a local least squares regression method, where the relevant initial condition is endogenous. Efficiency Costs Of Unemployment Insurance Denial: Evidence From Randomly Assigned Examiners, Jonathan Cohen, Geoffrey C. Schnorr

Upjohn Institute Working Papers

Approximately 10 percent of Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants in the United States are denied benefits after being deemed at-fault for their job loss by a government examiner. Using administrative data from California and an examiner leniency design, we estimate the causal effects of extending eligibility to marginally at-fault claimants—those whose job separation reason would be deemed UI-eligible by some examiners but UI-ineligible by others. Approving a marginally at-fault claimant increases UI benefits paid by over $3,000 and lengthens the nonemployment spell by just under two weeks, but it does not decrease labor income. In this paper, we use a natural experiment to measure the impact of a transitory positive income shock on college education. On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law. This act made provisions for the third round of Economic Impact Payment for eligible US residents. Each person in an eligible family received up to $1,400. This stimulus payment was an exogenous positive income shock on US college students if they received the payment.
