Salesperson Networking Behaviors And Creativity: Exploring An Unconventional Relationship, Michael T. Krush, Raj Agnihotri, Gerrard M. Macintosh, Ashish Kalra

Management and Marketing Faculty Publications

A great deal of emerging research explores the antecedents and outcomes of salesperson creativity. However, relatively fewer scholarly endeavors have delved into assessing the social antecedents of salesperson creativity. Addressing this issue, the current research focuses on the link between one critical social antecedent in sales research, namely that of networking behaviors, and creativity among salespeople. Specifically, we include customer and professional networking behaviors and study their direct, interactive, and curvilinear effects on salesperson creativity. Empirical findings show that professional networking as well as customer networking are positively related to salesperson creativity. Further, we demonstrate the non-linear effects of professional …

Branding A University Through An Experience: An Audit Of John Carroll University’S Communication Touch Points, Tori M. Price

Masters Essays

This project was designed to compare branding and higher education literature to determine how a higher educational institution can generate brand loyalty and brand advocates through a process of managed communication touch points. John Carroll has received national recognition for their academic programs and has been regarded by many alumni as a great university experience. Therefore, an audit of John Carroll University’s communication efforts will demonstrate a comparison between the university’s communication process and the research, to determine how exactly brand loyalty is generated at a small, private, Jesuit university. The literature review will serve as a “best practices” guide. …

An Investigation Into The Teaching Of International Public Relations To Undergraduates, Matthew Wisla

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Currently, most U.S. multinational companies increasingly rely on international markets for revenue and growth. Public relations professionals, whether they are on assignment in a foreign land or based in the U.S. as part of an international team, must possess the skills to communicate effectively with target audiences from other cultures. The purpose of this study is to better understand the international qualifications and background of instructors teaching international public relations to U.S. undergraduates. This study is based on data collected through telephone interviews with select academic thought leaders in the field of teaching international public relations, and a broad email …

Pharma Goes Social: Exploring Social Media Guidelines For Pharmaceutical Direct To Consumer Advertising, Lisa Ferian

Masters Essays

Direct to consumer advertising of pharmaceutical increased in the United States between 2015 and 2016 by 9% to $5.6 billion (McCaffrey, 2017). The only two countries which allow detailed product claim advertisements are the United Sates and New Zealand. While traditional advertising channels have been successful to pharmaceutical companies, many are looking to turn to digital options such as social media to better reach their audiences and work around increased strictness of advertising to physicians. To date, minimal guidance has been provided by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) when it comes to social media, …

Comparative Content Analysis Regarding Brand Management Through Influencer Marketing, Julia Hurt

Masters Essays

The divide between advertising, marketing, and public relations has deteriorated over time, where each has a specific focus but no longer a particular correct way of reaching audiences. The Doctor Will Skype You Now: College Student Attitudes Towards The Integration Of Telemedicine (Healthspot® Kiosk) At John Carroll University, Kasey A. Foley

Masters Theses

There has been a spike in the nation’s interest in telemedicine over the past decade. Mobile applications, remote-monitoring devices, and image-sharing software have been designed to provide patients convenient access to medical attention. One of these technologies, an enclosed medical booth called the HealthSpot® kiosk (HSK), was installed in the John Carroll University Student Health and Wellness Center in 2014. The HealthSpot® kiosk utilizes videoconferencing technology to simulate face-to-face communication between providers and patients. This new technology would seem to be a good fit for a small college campus, as college-aged students accept technology quickly, and small campuses often have …

Transitioning College Media From Print Focused Business Models To Digitally Focused Business Models, Celina Oseguera Mar 2017

Transitioning College Media From Print Focused Business Models To Digitally Focused Business Models, Celina Oseguera

Journalism

The noticeable downturn in print advertising indicates a need for change in the news industry business model. College media is not immune to this decline and need for change. A change in business model calls for transitioning to an alternative system that does not primarily rely on print products and advertising — a digitally focused business model. Many college media organizations around the United States have started to pursue this type of model, changing the way they produce and present news in the process. Taking into account the state of print focused business models in the general and collegiate news …

This research captures perspectives and experiences from public relations practitioners in agency and corporate environments alongside external, peer-reviewed research. It examines the contributing factors in how …

Understanding Public Relations In The 'Sharing Economy', Anne Gregory, Gregor Halff Mar 2017

Understanding Public Relations In The 'Sharing Economy', Anne Gregory, Gregor Halff

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In spite of the macro-economic impact of the so-called ‘sharing economy’ there is a nearly complete dearth of contributions from the communication academy to its discourse. More attention is overdue, particularly for the conceptual pressure the ‘sharing economy’ is exerting on the public relations function. The authors propose a reconceptualization of public relations by identifying the constitutive aspects of the sharing economy and bringing together the explanatory concepts ‘circuits of commerce’ and ‘viable matches’ from economic sociology and communicative constitution of organizations theory to develop the notions of ‘deliberate disintermediation’ and ‘circuits of communication’ in public relations. The contention is …
