Honoring Arkansas Sen. Percy Malone for his contributions to the Ouachita Tigers football program, university officials unveiled signage for AllCare Field House during a Dec. 12 dedication service.
Sen. Malone, a longtime supporter of Ouachita Baptist University and Tiger athletics, is an Arkadelphia pharmacist and businessman. He has served in both the Arkansas Senate and Arkansas House of Representatives.

Ouachita Baptist University senior Jason Potts was named this year’s winner of the W. Francis and Mary McBeth Wind and Percussion Concerto Competition on Dec. 9. He also took home first place in the competition last year. The competition is sponsored by Mary McBeth in honor of her late husband, W. Francis McBeth, former Arkansas composer laureate and Ouachita faculty member.

Characteristics Of Medication Advertisements Found In Us Women’S Fashion Magazines, Jennifer Mongiovi, Grace Clarke Hillyer, Corey H. Basch, Danna Ethan, Rodney Hammond

Background: Although prescriptions are dispensed at discretion of medical professionals, many pharmaceutical companies use direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising to increase sales. Over-the- counter (OTC) medications are similarly marketed.
Methods: We examined the content of advertisements in 38 issues of 9 popular US women’s fashion magazines. We evaluated target audience, health condition, product availability, message appeal, target to females, and mention of potential side effects and benefits.
Results: Sixty total medication advertisements were identified, 58.3% (95% CI: 45.8, 70.8) for prescription products. In magazines targeted to non-Hispanic Whites, >65% of advertisements were for OTC medications whereas 80% (95% CI: 66.7, 94.5) of …

Prescription Drug Abuse Motives Student-Run Call Center, Mark D. Weinstein

Prescription Drug abuse is rampant in the United States. It’s a deadly issue that needs to be corrected, which is why Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy opened the Medication Therapy Management LLC Call Center.
The new Center is designed to educate patients about the proper way to use, prescription drugs. The Center was formed earlier this year, but officially opened in December with 5,000 patients from coast-to-coast.

This research will focus on activist organizations as practitioners of public relations. Using this framework, Love Canal and Carver Terrace, two groundbreaking environmental justice case studies, are evaluated through the lens of public relations. These lenses include public relations models, strategies, and tactics. Power and legitimacy are evaluated as factors which impact the public relations activities of activists. It was found that models did not fall into the 2-way symmetrical model and that strategies were motivated by interactions with target organizations. Twitter, a popular social networking platform, offers unique opportunities for sharing and disseminating health-related information to the public. Health campaigns frequently use Twitter to raise awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among users. The present study aims to investigate health campaigns’ use of Twitter for promoting strategic health messages and public engagement. Through a content analysis of a sample of national health campaigns’ (Let’s Move!, The Heart Truth, Breast Cancer Awareness & Truth) tweets, the research identifies interactive features and message functions across campaign profiles. When big stories hit the airwaves, statewide media are calling upon Cedarville University professors to interject their expertise so Ohio residents better understand the issues. And, with this happening at a regular rate, it’s a wonder how the professors from Cedarville’s history and government department teach their classes.
But they do.
During the first four months of the 2016-17 academic year, Cedarville faculty, staff—and some students—participated in 399 media interviews — an increase of 105 interviews from the same time one year earlier. And, the faculty from the history and government department handled 59 percent of the media work.

The goal of this study was to improve corporate outreach efforts for an educational program called Starbase Los Alamitos. This Starbase program is part of a larger effort by the Department of Defense to improve STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in the United States.
This study was guided by the following research question: How can STEM programs use relationship management theory to improve corporate outreach? A review of the literature was performed and this study used relationship theory to design eight questions for a four person focus group. Control and treatment websites were identified. Increasing attention has been paid to the relationship between country reputation and corporate reputation by both public and private sectors. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship by investigating the factors that influence and are influenced by country reputation. In particular, this study examines (a) the impact of country reputation on foreign consumers’ attitudes toward brand and product purchase intentions, (b) the relationship between corporate reputation on country reputation, and (c) the mediating role of product image. This content analysis study on licensed characters in advertising collected data in summer 2015 from three children’s cable networks: Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. Using Social cognitive theory and based on past research (Barcus, 1975; Atkin, 1976; Calcott & Lee, 1994; Stitt & Kunkel, 2008; LoDolce et al., 2013; Castonguay et al., 2013), the study examined whether the use of licensed characters and emotional appeals varied in advertising for healthy or unhealthy foods, mass media genre and the character’s gender. Ouachita Baptist University will host Tiger Steel in concert in Mabee Fine Art’s McBeth Recital Hall on Monday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Dr. Ryan Lewis, assistant professor of music, directs the steel drum ensemble. He said he seeks to celebrate the instruments’ history by ensuring that the ensemble “performs at least 50 percent Trinidadian calypso and soca as a way to honor the nation from which the instruments originated.”
