This paper explains how the process of rebranding the logo of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Republic of Indonesia carried out by DGT public relations in shaping the image by displaying the cultural values of the Ministry of Finance. This is motivated by the lack of a comprehensive explanation of the process of rebranding the logo in previous studies. At DGT, logo rebranding is carried out because of the low level of the public's trust in the DGT. Therefore, one of the strategies of the DGT public relations is the formation of an institutional image. This study …

Abstract
At its core, journalism is a civic enterprise with a mission to help citizens better understand their world and communities. Fulfilling this lofty mission in today’s digital media landscape poses new and evolving challenges, but it also presents a unique opportunity to reexamine the relationship between storytellers and their audiences. Advancements in the learning sciences in recent decades offer important insights into how the mind works. In teaching and learning, pedagogical experts and practitioners increasingly utilize these insights to refine and implement instructional strategies that increase student engagement, motivation, and learning. This capstone project aims to establish a framework …

Exploring The Effect Of Cultural Sensitivity In Public Relations Campaigns, Amanda N. Christian
Exploring The Effect Of Cultural Sensitivity In Public Relations Campaigns, Amanda N. Christian
Senior Honors Projects, 2020-current
This study examines the importance of perceived cultural sensitivity on consumer attitudes and intent to support. Participants were randomly assigned to campaign messaging with a perceived high level of cultural sensitivity or a perceived low level of cultural sensitivity. Findings reveal that higher perceived levels of culturally sensitive messages generate more positive attitudes and increase the willingness of consumers to demonstrate supportive communication and intent to purchase. Other hypotheses comparing the response between two groups—self-identifying Hispanic and non-Hispanic respondents— aimed to distinguish the role origin plays in determining how important cultural sensitivity is to the perception of the organization. These …

Emergency Text Messaging Systems And Higher Education Campuses: Expanding Crisis Communication And Chaos Theory, Tanya Desselle Ickowitz, Michael J. Palenchar
Annual Research Symposium of the College of Communication and Information
Recent public safety threats affecting college and university campuses during episodes of natural disasters and mass violence have exposed numerous challenges and opportunities in risk and crisis communication. This study addresses how colleges and universities have incorporated emergency text messaging systems into their crisis communication plans; how these institutions have tested such emergency notification systems; and what, if any, prevalent gaps exist between audience expectations and actual practices. Using grounded theory, the data collected in this study through in-depth phone interviews (N=10) of university public relations practitioners, as well as a document analysis of media coverage of campus crises (N=36), …

No, Kidding! Are We Branded From Birth ? Content Analysis Of Ads In Children's Magazines, Meenakshi Trichur Venkitasubramanian, Jinhee Lee
Annual Research Symposium of the College of Communication and Information
Children are the favorite among marketers and advertisers. Most of the advertisers make use of the convincing power children have to make adults purchase products. This is exploited by advertising the messages exclusively to cater to children’s taste and interest. This is a proposed exploratory study that looks at the message strategies used by the advertisers in ads present in children’s magazines. Most of the research conducted focuses on television commercials and this paper hopes to add to the research on ads in children’s magazine. This study uses the six-segment strategy wheel to analyze the ads in the children’s magazines. …
The Influences Of Perceived Environmental Responsibilities On Green Purchasing Intentions, Jinhee Lee, Ilwoo Ju
The Influences Of Perceived Environmental Responsibilities On Green Purchasing Intentions, Jinhee Lee, Ilwoo Ju
Annual Research Symposium of the College of Communication and Information
The current study examined the influences of perceived environmental responsibilities of the three types of important social agents (individuals, companies, and governments) on consumers’ green purchasing intentions. Drawing on the environmental consumerism and purchase decision making literature, consumers’ perceptions of the aforementioned social agents’ roles in environment protection were hypothesized to influence their purchase intentions for green products. In addition, the current study attempted to investigate the different prediction patterns of such factors for two different purchase intention measures (e.g., general purchase intention and “willingness to pay more” for green products) to capture the nuance between the different measurement scales, …

Communication Strategies In Direct-To-Consumer Prescription Drug Advertisements, Ilwoo Ju
Annual Research Symposium of the College of Communication and Information
Little research has incorporated a theoretical framework for the analysis of message and creative strategies used in DTCA to date. The purpose of the current study is to extend the previous literature by providing a more complete list of DTCA message and/or creativity strategies based on Taylor’s message strategy wheel. The results show that DTCA has been used to promote drugs for such life-threatening conditions as asthma, acid reflux, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and arthritis. The most common inducement was the offer of consumer support information. In general, magazine DTC ads from 2006 to 2010 were likely to take both informational …

Corporations And The American Polity, Patrick Labossiere
Corporations And The American Polity, Patrick Labossiere
Student Theses and Dissertations
Research on corporate communications’ effects on politics presents an acknowledgement of a relationship between the two topics, leaving a void in the explanation and examination of this topic. The void presents an opening to introduce a conceptual process for how corporations are able to craft communications to influence the American Polity, the democratic social organization within the United States. This research begins with a historical review of how corporations gain prominence in American society, capturing the ability to participate in the democratic social organization of the polity. A qualitative analysis of several conceptual frameworks serves as data, to establish an …

Crisis Communications In A Natural Agricultural Disaster, Erica Irlbeck, Austin Moore
Journal of Applied Communications
Wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas in the late 2010s caused seven deaths and catastrophic damage to millions of acres of ranch and farmland. Because of the rural location of these disasters, agricultural communicators were releasing information to media, internal stakeholders, social media, and other agricultural audiences. The purpose of this study was to explore the communications efforts made and subsequent lessons learned from agricultural communicators during the fires. Through a qualitative case study, researchers interviewed 14 agricultural communicators about their experiences in disseminating information about the fires. Most of the findings align with pre-existing literature; however the researchers found …
