Purpose. The purpose of this study was to identify the academic and non-academic problems of adjustment to the American culture and educational system as perceived by Latin American students attending selected California universities. A second purpose was to identify and compare the differences in problems perceived in undergraduate male and female Latin American students from their respective viewpoints. Students have reacted positively to personal contact with school counselors in regard to learning about themselves in relationship to potential career goals. There appears to be a need, however, to ascertain the effect of career counseling at the upper elementary grades upon career awareness and development at a later secondary grade. In addition, there is a need to study the effects of individual versus group career guidance at the upper elementary grades with reference to the career choices selected at a later secondary grade.

The purpose of this study was to determine if high school counselors' predictive opinions of freshman college academic success were reliable indicators of actual college academic success achieved by freshman students.

Eleven null hypotheses were tested which involved high school counselors' opinions of college freshman grade point average and actual college grade point average achieved by freshmen in regard to the following variables: (1) sex of the counselor, (2) high school location, (3) sex of the student, (4) high school size, and (5) high school accreditation. A Study In The Identification Of Potential Dropouts In The Ellensburg Public Schools, Ronald Gene Soft

The purpose of the study was to examine the Ellensburg School District's criteria for the identification of potential dropouts. Self-concept, as measured by the Adjective Check List, was used as an indicator of school problems typical of low achievers and dropouts. Students from the Ellensburg junior and senior high schools were administered the ACL. The results indicated that four of ten hypotheses derived from past research were substantiated for self and teacher ratings. These were ego organization for self ratings, and ego organization, social desirability and internal discomfort for teacher ratings. The evidence tended to support the criteria for identification …
