Perceived well-being of college students is crucial to the success of students and institutions of higher education alike. Through this study we assert that promoting compassion among college students can improve their perceived well-being. Furthermore, the effect is mediated by cognitive flexibility and anxiety felt by students. The study has theoretical and managerial implications. The results can guide educators and university personnel to better craft curriculum and university communication.

Prompting Progress: An Eight-Week Ai Literacy Cohort For Academic Advisors – A Program Evaluation Report, Leo S. Lo

As generative AI floods higher education, academic advisors—often the first humans students consult—must learn to partner with the technology, not compete with it. This eight-week, community-of-practice pilot at the University of New Mexico gave 15 advisors guided access to GPT-4 for degree planning, policy queries, and email drafting. Pre/post surveys showed familiarity rising from 2.50 to 3.50, overall AI-literacy from 2.71 to 3.90, and confidence from 3.07 to 4.00 on a 5-point scale. Workflow logs documented recruitment emails produced in minutes rather than hours. Participants highlighted ethical guard-rails as a new competency, not an afterthought. This study examined differences in Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) scores between at-risk and non-at-risk medical students and their relationship with USMLE Step 1 outcomes, offering insights into cognitive and emotional factors affecting Step 1 performance.

A total of 298 medical students completed the 60-item LASSI questionnaire. Based on academic performance indicators, students were categorized as at-risk (N = 39) or non-at-risk (N = 259). Welch’s t-tests compared LASSI subscales between groups and individual items, while logistic regression, adjusted for MCAT scores, GPA, and End-of-Segment scores, assessed the …

Although many universities have adopted student management systems (SMS) such as Navigate or Starfish to track and communicate with students about their academic progress, libraries have had little involvement with these platforms. This poster presents a case study of a Library’s integration as a referral point in Navigate. Faculty are now able to raise ad-hoc alerts that refer students to research support at the library. In addition to providing another avenue of research support, librarians are also able to keep faculty informed throughout the process, something not integrated into other systems of library support.

This interpretive phenomenological study explores faculty and academic advisors’ experiences in supporting students with mental health challenges. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, which suggests that personal beliefs, prior experiences, and familiarity with symptoms influence behavior, the study examines participant narratives to identify key factors that shape their approaches to supporting students. Findings indicate that personal beliefs about mental health, prior experiences with individuals facing mental health challenges, and campus-based mental health training opportunities all significantly enhance mental health support mechanisms for students outside traditional counseling settings. Virginia has an incarceration rate of 679 per 100,000 residents, the highest among independent democratic nations. This scoping review examines perspectives on post-secondary STEM education to promote STEM education within Virginia's correctional facilities, assesses programs to improve rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, and address systemic inequalities by developing the scientific potential of incarcerated individuals. The review finds that while STEM education in correctional facilities faces limitations, its potential benefits are being realized nationwide. Since the global pandemic, several school districts have included SEL as part of the school curriculum. Teachers, counselors, social workers, school psychologists, and school administrators participate in SEL instruction and/or practices. The current withdrawal form lacks detail and makes it difficult to understand the reasons why students leave courses. This report from the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium highlights findings from a multiple case study exploring enrollment practices related to advanced coursework matriculation in a suburban middle school and rural high school. In connection with the MERC Equitable Access and Support for Advanced Coursework study, this multiple case study included perspectives from students, parents, and educators as they reflected on the factors that support and inhibit access for advanced courses in their schools.
