Adult women are enrolling in colleges at a growing rate. From the mid-1960's to the mid-1970's higher education institutions experienced an increase in students due primarily to a rapid increase in the traditional college-age population. After several years of narrow fluctuation, enrollment figures began to rise again as a result of increased participation of older adults, especially women (The Condition of Education, 1985).

The purpose of this study was to determine how immediacy to parenthood affects one's perception of what should be learned in a parent education class. Differences were sought among groups of individuals at four levels of immediacy to parenthood on the perceived importance of 11 parenting topics. These topics were Pregnancy and Childbirth, Infancy, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescence, Health and Safety, Social Issues Related to Parenthood, Family Relations and Communication, Guiding the Behavior of Children, Parenting Patterns, and Career-Related Concerns. This project explores the food and eating habits of people in the United States. It is intended for use as a Supplementary text by high intermediate and advanced students of English as a second or foreign language. The present study was designed to investigate the extent to which college freshmen show an interest in those career opportunities which are available through an education in home economics and to ascertain the extent to which selected individuals and factors influence students' choices of career goals. A total of 342 freshmen students at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) participated in the survey by completing a career interest and influence questionnaire designed by the investigator. Energy-efficient designs in clothing, interior architecture and furnishings were evaluated (a) to assess consumers’ attitudes toward the designs, (b) to compare acceptability levels of participants who were knowledgeable in the home energy field with those who were less knowledgeable and (c) to determine if consumers had a preference for using housing, clothing or furnishings in meeting their thermal comfort needs. Four designs generated by the University of Tennessee-Energy Design competition were evaluated: a leisure outfit, a lounging dress, a water-storage collector (room divider and coffee tables) and a solar waterbed. This kind of education can aid the patient to select and practice a more desirable nutritional behavior in order to produce a favorable change in his health status. The dietitian's role in health care education is the application of nutritional knowledge to the individual situation of the patient. A dietitian must first establish rapport with the patient through verbal and non-verbal communication. The Ten State Nutrition Survey (1968-1972) included West Virginia as a participant and provided data on the nutritional status of various age groups including preschool children. Information from biochemical tests, anthropometric measurements and a 24-hour dietary recall indicated that a significant number of children in West Virginia and the United States are malnourished or at nutritional risk. For this reason it is essential that nutritional evaluation of children be carried out during physical examinations. However, it may not be necessary for the evaluation to be completed by a nutritionist.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to identify alternatives and factors considered in the decision to place parents in nursing homes and to Identify feelings, relationships, needs, and satisfaction levels of the adult children involved in the decision. The researcher also sought suggestions of ways adult children's needs might be met.

Procedure. Adult children who were listed as next-of-kin of parents residing in Black Hawk County, Iowa intermediate care nursing homes were sent questionnaires developed by the researcher. The purpose of this paper is to examine current infant feeding practices as they concern infantile obesity. Our current practices will be compared to the historical factors such as feeding practices of one hundred years ago. Physical, cultural, and psychological factors of infantile obesity will also be considered with and compared to current infant feeding practices with a view toward establishing recommendations for the feeding of inf ants of our culture.
