To introduce a phase of education designed to help every individual to live healthfully and comfortably, to buy goods and services wisely, and to obtain the greatest use of those goods and services is a tremendous undertaking. Science teachers are in an excellent position to contribute better understanding of the place of the consumer in our social system. Some Pupil Transportation Problems In The Public Schools Of West Virginia, Henry Leonard Clay Jr.

Pupil transportation is coming to be considered an indispensable service in the West Virginia school systems. In the year 1941-42 more than 132,885 pupils were transported to and from West Virginia schools daily. This was an increase of 77,886 over the number transported in 1932-33 or an increase of about 8,660 annually.

The average daily attendance in the public elementary and secondary schools of West Virginia for the year 1941-42 and 395, 065 which shows that 33.63 per cent of all the pupils attending the public school were transported at public expense. The sum of $2,142,943.40 was spent for transportation, …

Pressure Gasoline And Pressure Kerosene Stoves, A. E. Baragar

There are people who believe that pressure gasoline and pressure kerosene stoves are dangerous cooking appliances to use in the home. Possibly this opinion is, in some instances, justified. Nevertheless, these stoves deserve careful consideration because: they are much more efficient than the ordinary gravity flow kerosene stove; they have insulated ovens; they often have a good temperature indicator, and, what is most important, they cook and bake rapidly. The important factors to consider when either purchasing or operating a stove of this type are safety, construction, and performance.

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in 1933, surveys the chemical classification of proteins and their role in human nutrition, with the stated aim of preparing home economics students to understand protein's function in the diet. Jones organizes proteins into three major classes: simple proteins, including albumins, globulins, glutelins, protamins, and histones; conjugated proteins, including nucleo-proteins, glyco-proteins, phospho-proteins, and hemoglobins; and derived proteins, including albumoses, peptones, and peptids, describing the chemical composition, solubility properties, and sources of each.

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics in 1931, examines the household budget as a system for managing family income during a period of national economic crisis. Pepin opens by surveying contemporary economic theories offered to explain the ongoing depression, including overproduction, unequal distribution, and capitalization theories, before turning to the household as a unit affected by broader economic conditions.
