Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni Sep 2018

Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni

Dissertations

This research focuses on the design of a procurement model for expensive medical supplies in a healthcare supply chain. A deterministic optimization model generates recommendations for optimal purchases of products in a given planning period. The model combines common concepts of supply chain procurement such as leveraging tiered pricing, ensuring supply base diversity with phenomena unique to healthcare supply chain such as consideration of physician preference for products. The deterministic optimization model minimizes total spend over a chosen planning period with consideration of four key decision parameters:

  • Physician preference requirements (which are imposed as rules on product substitutability),
  • Upper limits …

Airworthiness policy for the RSAF is developed on the basis that it will be as civil as possible and as military as necessary. For the purpose of this research, the current RSAF airworthiness process will be benchmarked against the United States Air Force (USAF) airworthiness process. That …

Decentralized Planning For Non-Dedicated Agent Teams With Submodular Rewards In Uncertain Environments, Pritee Agrawal, Pradeep Varakantham, William Yeoh Sep 2018

Decentralized Planning For Non-Dedicated Agent Teams With Submodular Rewards In Uncertain Environments, Pritee Agrawal, Pradeep Varakantham, William Yeoh

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Decentralized planning under uncertainty foragent teams is a problem of interest in manydomains including (but not limited to) disaster rescue, sensor networks and security patrolling. Decentralized MDPs, Dec-MDPs havetraditionally been used to represent such decentralized planning under uncertainty problems. However, in many domains, agents may notbe dedicated to the team for the entire timehorizon. For instance, due to limited availability of resources, it is quite common for policepersonnel leaving patrolling teams to attend toaccidents. Such non-dedication can arise dueto the emergence of higher priority tasks ordamage to existing agents. However, there isvery limited literature dealing with handlingof non-dedication in decentralized settings. …

An Exploration Into The Efficacy Of Christian Servant Leadership In Facilitating Organizational Change In The Automotive Aftermarket, Christopher Shadrick

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Changing market dynamics is threatening the viability of stores in the automotive aftermarket. To provide business leaders strategies with strategies to implement organizational change and address shrinking revenue, this phenomenological study explored the lived experiences and perspectives of 20 front line, retail store managers in the automotive aftermarket. The information gathered during the interview process was analyzed using Moustakas’ modified van Kaam method. In addition, the researcher used NVivo 12, a qualitative analytic software, to group, reduce, validate, and organize the data into themes. Six themes emerged that demonstrate the applicability of Christian servant leadership to the automotive aftermarket. These …

The Design, Test And Evaluation Of A Sensing System For Process Analytical Technology (Pat), Trevor Murphy Sep 2018

The Design, Test And Evaluation Of A Sensing System For Process Analytical Technology (Pat), Trevor Murphy

Theses

Increased globalisation and competitiveness has given rise to a more dynamic and diverse global market that has begun to place incredible strain on manufacturing supply chains. Conventional manufacturing methods such as the batch manufacturing methods employed largely by the materials processing industries i.e. pharmaceuticals, polymers and magnesium processing plants are ill-suited to cope with the demands of today. As products evolve with technological advancements they become more complex to produce and require alternative approaches to manufacturing to ensure product quality while reducing costs and increasing manufacturing efficiencies.

A potential solution to the growing demands on today’s supply chain is process …

Event-Based Allocation Of Airline Check-In Counters: A Simple Dynamic Optimization Method Supported By Empirical Data, Mahmut Parlar, Brian Rodrigues, Sharafali Moosa

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This paper studies the real-life problem of dynamically optimizing the number of airport check-in counters to allocate for a single flight. The main feature of our work is the use of empirical data collected at the Singapore Changi Airport, which drives the dynamic optimization model of a parallel queues system. We propose an event-based dynamic programming model that simplifies considerably the optimization analysis even for large-scale problems with 700+ booked passengers. We investigate the following research questions: (a) For a particular flight, what is the optimal number of counters the system should open with and what is the corresponding optimal …

Assessing The Impacts Of Crowdsourcing In Logistics And Supply Chain Operations, Ha Hai Ta Aug 2018

Assessing The Impacts Of Crowdsourcing In Logistics And Supply Chain Operations, Ha Hai Ta

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Crowdsourcing models, whereby firms start to delegate supply chain operations activities to a mass of actors in the marketplace, have grown drastically in recent years. 85% of the top global brands have reported to use crowdsourcing in the last ten year with top names such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Nestle. These emergent business models, however, have remained unexplored in extant SCM literature. Drawing on various theoretical underpinnings, this dissertation aims to investigate and develop a holistic understanding of the importance and impacts of crowdsourcing in SCM from multiple perspectives. Three individual studies implementing a range of methodological approaches …

Retaining Valued Human Capital: Investigating The Demand Side Of The Labor Market, Dorothea Roumpi Aug 2018

Retaining Valued Human Capital: Investigating The Demand Side Of The Labor Market, Dorothea Roumpi

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

According to the Resource Based View, human capital resources are the key for sustainable competitive advantage. Human capital, however, is not an organizational possession and the voluntary turnover of valued human capital can erode an organization’s competitive advantage. In particular, subsequent losses in productivity and enabling rival firms to gain competitive advantage are only a few of the consequences of voluntary turnover.

The question of how organizations can influence turnover has triggered numerous conceptual and empirical papers. The majority of such endeavors focus on supply-side mobility constraints, exploring what organizations can do in order to minimize turnover intentions. On the …

Experience And Signaling Value In Technology Licensing Contract Payment Structures, Reddi Kotha, Pascale Crama, Phillip H. Kim

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Whencommercializing technology, the lack of proven results and a reluctance toinvest upfront resources hamper efforts by firms to work jointly with inventorsto bring new discoveries to market. An effective contract payment structure – amix of upfront and royalty payments – can help overcome these hurdles. Weconduct our research in university technology licensing, where licensingmanagers act as intermediaries to unite inventors and licensee firms. Rather than leveraging their experience to bargainfor maximum payments, highly experienced managers offer contractual paymentstructures that trade lower upfront payments for higher royalty payments inorder to signal value. The signal instills confidence in the value of the …

Customer Level Predictive Modeling For Accounts Receivable To Reduce Intervention Actions, Michelle L. F. Cheong, Wen Shi Aug 2018

Customer Level Predictive Modeling For Accounts Receivable To Reduce Intervention Actions, Michelle L. F. Cheong, Wen Shi

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

One of the main costs associated with Accounts receivable (AR) collection is related to the intervention actions taken to remind customers to pay their outstanding invoices. Apart from the cost, intervention actions may lead to poor customer satisfaction, which is undesirable in a competitive industry. In this paper, we studied the payment behavior of invoices for customers of a logistics company, and used predictive modeling to predict if a customer will pay the outstanding invoices with high probability, in an attempt to reduce intervention actions taken, thus reducing cost and improving customer relationship. We defined a pureness measure to classify …
