1 – 1 > 0: Growing The Pie By Reallocating Shelf Space To Small Brands, Jesse Core, Ho Kim

AMTP Proceedings 2025

We examine whether reallocating shelf space to smaller brands enhances total category sales. During a three-month field experiment involving 20 supermarket stores in Arkansas (10 treatment and 10 control stores), we increased shelf facings for smaller brands in treatment stores and reduced facings for larger brands, while maintaining the total shelf space constant. A difference-in-differences analysis reveals that increasing facings for smaller brands significantly boosts total category sales, with an average increase of 960 ounces per week during the intervention. Notably, sales remained elevated by 786 ounces per week after shelf facings reverted to the original level, indicating a persistent …

The Impact Of De-Globalization On Global Supply Chains – An Exploratory Study, Mee-Shew Cheung

AMTP Proceedings 2024

The globalization of supply chains has been a critical driver of economic growth and development over the past few decades. However, the recent trend of de-globalization threatens to disrupt these supply chains and potentially undermine their benefits. This research anticipates uncovering significant insights into the impact of de-globalization on global supply chains, including changes in efficiency, supplier networks, and risk management strategies. Additionally, the study aims to provide practical recommendations for businesses and policymakers to navigate this evolving landscape.

Reverse Flow Logistics In Manufacturing Operations, Jeffrey Wendt, Gary Holmes Apr 2024

Reverse Flow Logistics In Manufacturing Operations, Jeffrey Wendt, Gary Holmes

AMTP Proceedings 2024

The purpose of this research is to examine the suggestion that reverse flow can play a positive role in sustainable impacts and in reducing forward logistics cost structures. The coupling of both forward and reverse product and component flow can be a challenging task because, depending on the returned products’ disposition, the forward flow inventory management can be affected. The need for an integrated reverse supply chain that mirrors the forward supply chain is essential and failure in having forward visibility negates the reverse flow. If successful, it will result in reduced manufacturing costs and increased profits throughout the chain.

Reshoring From China: It’S The Economy, Stupid, Rex Evans Mcclure, Monisha Gupta, Vanessa Coffman Feb 2024

Reshoring From China: It’S The Economy, Stupid, Rex Evans Mcclure, Monisha Gupta, Vanessa Coffman

AMTP Proceedings 2024

This paper offers a market-oriented perspective into reshoring and the drivers of manufacturing sourcing. Starting in the 1980s, businesses sought to capture cost advantages by moving their manufacturing offshore. As those cost advantages dried up, the first notable incident of reshoring occurred in 2012, and the momentum continues to increase. This paper looks at some of the ripple effects of reshoring on supply chains, transportation routes, brand management, and even political rivalries

A Study On The Incentives And Barriers For The Adoption Of Electric Vehicles In South Alabama, Marianne Loes, Daniela Wolter Ferreira Touma, Jennifer C. Zoghby Feb 2024

A Study On The Incentives And Barriers For The Adoption Of Electric Vehicles In South Alabama, Marianne Loes, Daniela Wolter Ferreira Touma, Jennifer C. Zoghby

AMTP Proceedings 2024

ABSTRACT

Through a series of public policy incentives and consumer demand, more electric vehicles are being sold nationwide than ever before. Although electric vehicles (EVs) are being adopted nationwide by many consumers in recent years, car-buyers across South Alabama have not followed the trend. This research considers different stakeholders in the complex consumer buying process of car purchases, and it uses the extant technology adoption models to assess the public policy incentives, as well as statewide roadblocks, to EV adoption.

Managing Supply Chains Through The Covid-19 Pandemic: Lessons From The Field, Scott B. Keller Ph.D., Stephen A. Lemay Dba, Nicole Ann E. Dela Rosa

AMTP Proceedings 2024

As the Coronavirus shifted into a worldwide pandemic supply chains everywhere began experiencing comprehensive breakdowns. From continent to continent, suppliers, producers, distributors, and all services facilitating the movement and storage of products scrambled to alter plans in effort to secure enough product to meet customer demand. At one time or another during the pandemic most all failed to keep product flowing. During this time, supply chain faculty at a southeastern U.S. comprehensive regional university began weekly Zoom sessions to learn first-hand what business alumni were doing to help their firms survive. These are their stories and the lessons they learned …

A Guide To Controlling Supply Chain Last Mile And Reverse Last-Mile Logistics: A Study Of U.S. And China Small Business Enterprises, Emmanuel Finnih Apr 2023

A Guide To Controlling Supply Chain Last Mile And Reverse Last-Mile Logistics: A Study Of U.S. And China Small Business Enterprises, Emmanuel Finnih

AMTP Proceedings 2023

In the United States, the last-mile logistics infrastructure is less developed, with fewer delivery services and less efficient delivery methods. China has adopted more advanced technologies such as drones and robots for last-mile delivery, while the United States has lagged behind in this area (Zhang and Zhang, 2020). Finally, in terms of delivery methods, China has adopted more efficient methods such as same-day delivery and express delivery, while the United States has been relatively slow to adopt these methods, with many retailers still relying on traditional delivery methods like ground shipping. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of …

Adapting To Slow-Moving Crises: The Personal Protection Equipment Supply Chain In The Time Of Covid19, Jennifer Shullih, Stephen Lemay Jan 2021

Adapting To Slow-Moving Crises: The Personal Protection Equipment Supply Chain In The Time Of Covid19, Jennifer Shullih, Stephen Lemay

AMTP Proceedings 2021

In this paper, we look at the supply chain for PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. We look at the way the supply chain has responded to the pandemic, the coordination of the supply chain relative to the needs of primary users, and the consequences of its use. We find that the supply chain has continued to function more as a commercial supply chain than as an emergency supply chain largely because of a lack of centralized coordination. We include an analysis of existing concepts as they apply to this supply chain, but also incorporate preliminary results from a …

A Case Study In Supply Chain Ethics: Medical Supplies Are Us, Michael J. Dwyer Jan 2021

A Case Study In Supply Chain Ethics: Medical Supplies Are Us, Michael J. Dwyer

AMTP Proceedings 2021

A hypothetical scenario is presented for consideration as a case study on both delivery logistics cost controls and ethical issues. Set in a regional medical supply company in the fictitious country, Costaguana, the actor needs to first unpack a supply chain issue as related to setting up a system to create cost savings to fund a non-government/non-profit organization. The delivery logistics with an established supplier for the company is explained in detail along with intra- and inter-company logistics’ relationships. Then an ethical issue is presented as related to the newfound savings from shipping for the organization. The case is presented …

The Future of Electronics Consumption and the Role of the Sustainable Consumer

Jennifer D. Henderson

University of South Alabama

ABSTRACT

A recent area of ethical, environmental, and social responsibility concern is in regard to smartphones and related electronic devices. Specifically, these products have been linked to generating large quantities of electronic waste (e-waste) and are increasingly produced under questionable working conditions. These social and environmental impacts can potentially be mitigated through the adoption of sustainably produced devices. However, although we are years into the modern sustainability movement, there still exists an attitude-behaviors gap where many consumers report that they are …

Investigating The Influence Of A Web Based Logistics Tool On The Effectiveness Of Operations For The Center Of Innovation For Logistics Of Georgia, David Vaughn

Honors College Theses

Research suggests a correlation between advancements in logistics infrastructure and the development rate of regional economies. Some states have identified this correlation and have taken steps to create specialized entities aimed at catalyzing the growth of logistics within their state. In the state of Georgia, the Center of Innovation for Logistics is the entity responsible for coordinating logistic development activities. As part of their responsibilities, they are tasked with fulfilling information requests regarding logistics infrastructure availability throughout the state. However, the system is used to process these requests is antiquated and extremely inefficient. In an attempt to ameliorate this process, …

Culture Inside The Firm And Its Effect On Collaboration Within The Supply Chain Industry, James Bailey Morris

Honors College Theses

Increasing collaboration between suppliers and buyers is a goal of every firm. Researchers have discovered multiple aspects that can affect this level of collaboration including culture. Cultures between firms have been analyzed, however no study has examined how the culture within a firm affects the firm’s collaboration. This study aims to research how the cultural dimensions of in-group collectivism and future orientation can affect firm collaboration and performance. After our analysis, the following relationships were discovered: in-group collectivism and future orientation positively affect collaboration, and collaboration positively affects the individual’s perception of organizational support.
