Paramedicine And Social Work: Case Studies In Authentic Student Recruitment, Nathalie Collins, Lynelle Watts, Renee Strauss, David Hodgson Jul 2015

Paramedicine And Social Work: Case Studies In Authentic Student Recruitment, Nathalie Collins, Lynelle Watts, Renee Strauss, David Hodgson

eCULTURE

Selling the course experience to future students has been corporatised across the Higher Education sector. At many universities marketing and sales specialists, such as ECU’s Student Recruitment Team, rather than academic staff, field prospective student enquiries. Representing courses authentically is crucial to matching future students with an appropriate course experience and career, as well is managing future students’ expectations. A challenge for academics is communicating the course/career experience to university sales agents (recruiters). A challenge for recruiters is conveying an authentic course experience to future students when they have not taken a course themselves. This paper selects two ECU courses, …

This paper is a reflection on an intercultural communication workshop developed for sixteen upper-level Japanese executives who work with their U.S. American counterparts in a U.S.A.-based global corporation. This training session was only one part of a much larger training program initiative which was carried out in five countries in Asia as well as in several locations across the U.S.A. Throughout my paper, I will apply the …

Why Do We Need More Women Leaders In Higher Education?, Susan R. Madsen Jul 2015

Why Do We Need More Women Leaders In Higher Education?, Susan R. Madsen

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

Research has shown that most managers and top leadership teams do not fully realize the value of having women in key positions, and this is the case across all sectors, including business, government, political, nonprofit, religious, community, and education (schools, colleges, and universities). Organizations will increasingly thrive when both men and women hold management and leadership roles. Gender inclusivity benefits not only businesses, but also entities such as churches, state legislatures, and city councils. This potential for greater thriving is also true for institutions of higher education in the U.S. and around the world. Understanding the value of inclusivity in …

Reconceptualizing Markets: Hip- Hop Artists, Marketing, Distribution, And Consumers, Ronald Pikes Jul 2015

Reconceptualizing Markets: Hip- Hop Artists, Marketing, Distribution, And Consumers, Ronald Pikes

Theses and Dissertations

Sociologists have made many contributions to the current understanding of markets. In spite of these contributions, individuals and market practices in sociology are generally overlooked, but both are important because individuals and their practices give markets their form. By overlooking market practices, sociologists disregard two of the most important forces within markets, distribution and marketing. These oversights significantly reduce our ability to understand how modern economic markets operate. Thus, the focus of this study is centered on market actions of independent hip-hop music artists and consumers of hip-hop music especially in regards to music distribution technology. Data was collected via …

Beyond Downton Abbey: Remembering The Great War's Fallen Through Education And Marketing, Nina M. Ray Ph.D., Andrew T. Mink

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

This paper explores the expanding marketing and education mission of the American Battle Monuments Commission (AMBC). Superintendents at overseas cemeteries and battle sites must continue their job of “keeping the headstones white and the grass green” but also must market specific events such as the 70th anniversary of D-Day at the Normandy location and an upcoming 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War in 2018. Part if the effort is passing the memory on to the next generation via materials relevant to young people today. U.S. history teachers who received ABMC grants to travel to Meuse-Argonne …

The Effects Of Math Anxiety On Consumer Price Perception And Purchase Decision, Peter Andersen Jul 2015

The Effects Of Math Anxiety On Consumer Price Perception And Purchase Decision, Peter Andersen

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Mathematics anxiety is an emotional state resulting in a negative reaction to numerical information and math problems. Therefore, it has been studied by education research to explain its effects on academic performance. However, the marketing literature has failed to notice the role of math anxiety in consumer behavior. As retailers offer various price promotions to increase product sales, buyers need to compare prices and calculate the final price after sales. The success of promotions depends on the way that the sellers frame the promotions, as consumers may react to promotions that offer gains differently than those that reduce their loss. …

"The Magic Formula: Scent And Brand"- The Influence Of Olfactory Sensory Co-Branding On Consumer Evaluations And Experiences, Ceren Ekebas Jul 2015

"The Magic Formula: Scent And Brand"- The Influence Of Olfactory Sensory Co-Branding On Consumer Evaluations And Experiences, Ceren Ekebas

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

This dissertation investigates the effect of co-branding efforts on consumers' responses when a sensory product is co-branded with the scent of another sensory product (sensory co-branded product). It aims to fill the gap in the literature by studying how olfactory attributes of co-branded products influence consumers' evaluations and experiences. Three experimental studies examine how these effects occur, and also analyze the influence of moderating factors that determine the magnitude of the effects.

Study 1 explored how branding strategies and different presentation methods of products (physical or denoted) interact to influence consumer evaluations and experiences. Findings showed that consumers evaluated sensory …

Measuring Consumer Expectations Of Salesperson Unethicality: A Scale Development, Amiee Mellon Jul 2015

Measuring Consumer Expectations Of Salesperson Unethicality: A Scale Development, Amiee Mellon

Marketing Theses & Dissertations

This dissertation addresses how and what ethical expectations (prior to conducting business) affect customer trust of the salesperson. In order to do so, this dissertation achieves two things. First, a scale for measuring the consumer’s expectations of salesperson unethicality (CESU) is systematically developed and validated based on the existing ethics literature and previously developed scales. Second, the scale’s properties and potential application are examined through hypothesis testing regarding the effects of (1) word of mouth on brand equity and consumer’s expectations of unethicality, and the effects of (2) brand equity and consumer’s expectations of unethicality on trust of the salesperson. …
