The intent of this thesis is to investigate the influence of 1980's and 1990's lesbian playwrights on modern queer representation in theatre. By analyzing the successful works of troupes and artists born out of the Women's One World (WOW) Café, it became apparent that the greatest changes in lesbian portrayal on stage came from queer and feminist authorship. Additionally, WOW Café became the common denominator in the success of many lesbian playwrights due to the freedom it gave its writers and performers. With the premise to ‘write like I dance,’ Writing as dancing investigates new methods of accessing and revealing choreographic thinking in three distinct ways; writing as a soloist, writing for the ensemble and writing responsively in collaboration. Resulting iterations have variously emerged in the form of performance, novella, play, artist-book, exhibition and long form poem; the novella The Dancer in Your Hands, being the primary solo work presented alongside this exegesis.

As a dance practitioner and self-identified Jew, I am deeply committed to social action through performance. Over the course of the past year, I explored the capacity of contemporary dance practices to support Jews in reflecting on and conceptualizing their Jewish experience. Through literary and creative research, the designing and facilitating of movement workshops in mid-Maine Jewish communities, and the creation of an evening-length performance piece titled, Shelanu (Ours), I discovered the numerous ways in which these two aspects of my identity could enrich one another. This thesis explores major texts dealing with pedagogical theory and active learning in the context of a theatre history class. By comparing a class which is taught in the traditional, chronological format relying heavily on lectures to a class taught in a newer, thematic format utilizing active learning the thesis defines what student-centered learning means. Active learning, its benefits, and its implementation are explained and explored, along with the advantages and benefits of teaching thematically instead of chronologically. This project encompasses the selection, research, casting, production, and post-production process of the musical, The Drowsy Chaperone for Ogden High School's Theatre Arts Department. This paper is a complete description of the set design process for the 2018 production of Bye Bye Birdie, as designed by Erin Wegleitner. The submission of this document will serve to meet partial fulfillment of Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre. The content of this thesis will detail the preproduction analysis, historical and critical analysis, process, post-production analysis and review of artistic development. Within those chapters, all aspects of the set design are considered from the first concept to completed project. To support the paper appendices works cited and works consulted are included.

In 2008, Spain’s financial crisis had a great impact on the primary sector on which the nation’s ‘economic miracle’ was founded: housing.Land speculation, the increase in housing construction, and easy loans had become one of the hallmarks of twenty-first-century Spanish identity. The crisis del ladrillo (“brick crisis”) plunged the national economy into chaos and condemned many Spanish citizens to job insecurity, loss of earning power, threat of eviction, and put them at high risk of social marginalization. วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง “เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ Bangkok Theater Festival นี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา ความเป็นมาและรูปแบบการแสดงของงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ผู้วิจัยศึกษาข้อมูลจาก เอกสาร สัมภาษณ์ การสังเกตการณ์และเข้าร่วมเป็นจิตอาสาในงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ในปีพ.ศ. 2562 ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาพบว่า เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นงานชุมนุมการแสดง โดยคณะละครและกลุ่มการแสดงต่าง ๆ ของคนรุ่นใหม่ในพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานคร เกิดจากการรวมตัวของกลุ่มละครได้ 10 กลุ่ม เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายทำให้เกิดเป็น เครือข่ายละครกรุงเทพ รวมถึงการเชื่อมโยงกลุ่มบุคคลต่าง ๆ กลุ่มคณะละคร กลุ่มศิลปินอิสระ กลุ่มอาจารย์ด้านการแสดงหลากหลายแขนง และรวมถึงกลุ่มนิสิต นักศึกษา จัดขึ้นปีละ 1 ครั้ง เริ่มจากปีพ.ศ. 2545 จนถึงปัจจุบัน รวมเป็น 18 ปี ความโดดเด่นของเทศกาลละครคือ การจัดงานเป็นประจำปีทุกปี ช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน มีความต่อเนื่องเป็นประจำ จึงทำให้เห็นถึงความสม่ำเสมอของการจัดงานเทศกาล การทำงานของงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ทำให้เกิดพื้นที่สร้างสรรค์และพื้นที่ในการสร้างงานผ่านศิลปะการละคร รวมไปถึงศิลปะการแสดงในหลากหลายแขนง เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นเหมือนพื้นที่ให้กับกลุ่มคนทำละคร ได้มีพื้นที่ในการสร้างงานละคร และการแสดงต่าง ๆ เนื่องจากเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเปิดรับกลุ่มงานแสดงทุกประเภท ไม่ปิดกั้น จึงทำให้งานแต่ละชิ้นงานของศิลปินมีความหลากหลาย ผลิตงานละครและงานศิลปะให้มีเอกลักษณ์ที่ชัดเจนเพื่อสร้างความโดดเด่นและความแตกต่าง จึงส่งผลให้เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นที่น่าสนใจในกลุ่มคนทำละคร และกลุ่มละครที่ต้องการอยากจะทดลองทำงานได้เข้ามาสร้างสรรค์ผลงานผ่านงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ เอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของเทศกาลคือมีรูปแบบที่เป็นของตนเอง เป็นปัจจัยหนึ่งที่มีตัวเลือกของงานละครและงานสร้างสรรค์ต่าง ๆ ให้ผู้ชมได้เลือกได้ด้วยตนเอง มีการขยายพื้นที่ จัดแสดงตามร้านอาหาร โรงละครในกรุงเทพมหานคร ทำให้เกิดการขยายฐานคนดูให้เพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยต้องการให้เทศกาลละคร สร้างตัวตนและงานละครให้มีการเติบโตกว้างขวาง รวมถึงเป็นกิจกรรมที่สำคัญที่ทำให้งานละครเข้ากับกลุ่มละครและผู้ชม พัฒนาศักยภาพของศิลปินการละครร่วมสมัยให้เกิดความยั่งยืนขยายพื้นที่การแสดงด้านศิลปะการละครร่วมสมัย ให้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งทั่วกรุงเทพมหานคร

Since 1946, many clowns have recorded their makeup by having it painted on eggs that are kept in a central registry in Wookey Hole, England. This tradition, which continues today, has been referred to alternately as a form of informal copyright registration and a means of protecting clowns’ property in their personae. This Article explores the Clown Egg Register and its surrounding practices from the perspective of law and social norms. In so doing, it makes several contributions. First, it contributes another chapter to the growing literature on the norms-based governance of intellectual property, showing how clowns—like comedians, roller derby …

The traditional notion of the Male Gaze, first conceptualized by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey in 1975, focused on the objectification of women through depictions structured to gratify a male heterosexual perspective. In this chapter we will revisit this concept and investigate how that gaze may have shifted away from a primarily heterosexual perspective to a socially dominant male perspective (maleness here referring to dominance rather than specific gender, just as “whiteness” might refer to privilege rather than race). Mozart’s The Magic Flute is a classic opera, showcasing powerful visual moments and well-known songs. This particular production’s lighting design approach consisted of modern design ideas and aesthetics, while remaining true to the classic idea of 2 forces working against one another. Focusing on the major themes in The Magic Flute, the lighting design reinforces the feelings of fear, despair, hope and ultimately enlightenment. This paper describes the process and execution of how the lighting design achieved these goals.
