99 Bottles: An Exploration Of Oral Interpretation As Rhetoric, Jeffrey T. Hess

This thesis attempts to combine the elements of oral interpretation and rhetoric in order to create a group performance piece that contains interesting movement and dialogue as well as persuasive rhetorical elements. This new genre of group oral interpretation is called Rhetorical Theatre and implements only non-fictional material for the manuscript. Metaphoric blocking and direction is discussed, as well as the use of other conventions currently employed in group interpretation.

Letters To Mother: A One-Act Play, Susan R. Brock Jan 1992

Letters To Mother: A One-Act Play, Susan R. Brock

Masters Theses

Few graduate students in English elect to write a creative thesis to complete their degrees, their tendency perhaps to believe that a thesis based on research seems a more scholarly endeavor. I do not think one could successfully argue the superiority of one type over the other, simply because the two are quite different. While a research thesis can require the reading and analysis of another author's work, a creative thesis requires the writing, reading, and analysis of one's own work. For that reason, the main body of this thesis consists of an introductory essay in addition to the creative …

Set in London, "Murder by the Book" is a lighthearted inventive play filled with twists, dark humor, and playful deception. A thriller writer indulges in vitriolic word duels with his estranged wife until she shoots him. Acting Hysteria: An Analysis Of The Actress And Her Part, Lydia Stryk Jan 1992

Acting Hysteria: An Analysis Of The Actress And Her Part, Lydia Stryk

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This dissertation examines the woman's part in dramatic representation as a hysterical construct and explores the hystericizing effect that the playing of this construct has on the actress. Drawing on feminist psychoanalytic analyses of male psychology and on the historical origins of male-invented female hysteria, this study uses dramatic representation as a model and metaphor for woman's hystericization in Western culture.

Charcot's theatricalization of female hysteria through public performances of hysterical acts and the Ophelia as psychological/aesthetic model in British mental asylums are investigated as metaphorical sources for a new definition of female hysteria as a disease of performance, of …

Heidi, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department Nov 1991

Heidi, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

1991-1992 Season

Heidi is a fresh and delightful play of the Swiss Alps. Heidi is one of the happiest characters in all literature to present before children. Lucille Miller's play depicts her vividly as a winning and personable little girl who is full of fun and mischief but whose influence is nevertheless wholesome and good. Her scenes with the calm uncle and with the Sesemann family are especially dramatic and make an eloquent appeal to every heart. The play follows the book closely, retaining all the well-loved episodes that keep this story eternally alive in the hearts of children. https://www.dramaticpublishing.com/heidi-hb2000
