New Qing Imperial History uses the Manchu summer capital of Chengde and associated architecture, art and ritual activity as the focus for an exploration of the importance of Inner Asia and Tibet to the Qing Empire (1636-1911). Well-known contributors argue that the Qing was not simply another Chinese dynasty, but was deeply engaged in Inner Asia not only militarily, but culturally, politically and ideologically.

Critics devoted mixed attention to him but his works deserve a new critical assessment to analyze the rich and sophisticated web of cultural and literary references that permeate them. Through readings of Il piatto piange, “L’uovo al cianuro” and other novels and short stories, this paper analyses the complex textual relations Chiara entertains with Pirandello’s Il fu Mattia Pascal. 西砲的應用與明代的國防, Ka Wing Yiu

踏入明代中葉，隨著歐洲人東來，西砲亦相繼傳入中國。鑒於自身火砲素質不佳，加上外患日亟——日本、滿洲、蒙古等外族皆對中土虎視眈眈，尤以東北女真為最大的威脅，屢次大破明軍。在這危急存亡之秋，引進先進的西砲成為了明季增強國防力量的重要法門。當中影響較大的有佛郎機砲和紅夷砲，它們的傳入曾掀起國內仿製之風，頗受重視。

明廷大臣汪鋐(1466-1536)、徐光啟(1562-1633)、李之藻(1565-1630)等在接觸來華歐人的同時，分別獲悉佛郎機砲及紅夷砲威力之鉅，先後向朝廷推薦並引進之，以圖強化國防力量，抵抗外侮。戚繼光(1528-1587)、孫承宗(1563-1638)、袁崇煥(1584-1630)等將領，更將之運用於軍隊編制或實戰中，成就斐然。本文將以 此兩種西砲為論述範圍，淺論它們傳入的經過，以及明廷的仿製及明軍的應用，並旁述它們在明季對日本與後金戰爭中的成效。

誠然，對西砲在華影響的研究，前人論述頗多，成果有目共睹。拙文旨在選取若干明代史料，配合不同學者的研究成果，冀能在佛郎機砲及紅夷砲的基礎上，為明代後期西砲的應用及影響，作一綜合及宏觀的分析。

賈平凹小說的城鄉嬗變 : 從《商州三錄》、《廢都》、《土門》到《懷念狼》, Chung Yin Cheung

中國現代化城市的興起，作家的想像地域不再限於鄉土，城市的繁華、喧囂、熱鬧，為他們提供一個新的敘述空間。但無論是魯迅的紹興、沈從文的湘西，以至莫言的高密東北鄉、賈平凹的商州，那怕城市如何誘人，中國作家看來從未忘卻鄉土，鄉土仍是他們念茲在茲的敘述對象，也是他們安身立命的所在。相比之下，城市被想像成罪惡淵藪，與象徵純樸的鄉村形成對立的局面。

陝西作家賈平凹以寫「商州」系列作品知名於當代文壇。商州即今陝西南部，也是賈平凹的故鄉。自《商州三錄》始，他以述說故鄉人事風貌、山川美景，展現鄉土的美好的風土人情，成為八十年代初尋根文學的一名健將。《浮躁》以後，他力圖改變創作路向，不局限於鄉土抒寫，他以久居城市的鄉下人身份書寫城市，觀察、論述城鄉的變化、現象，一時成績頗為可觀。

城市與鄉村既是賈平凹小說的主要論述對象，他對於城鄉，或是批判，或是感嘆，或是歌頌，牽引著文本對城市、鄉村的想像。本文試以賈平凹的四部作品《商州三錄》（一九八三）、《廢都》（一九九三）、《土門》（一九九六）、《懷念狼》（二零零零）為主要的研究文本，輔以他的其他小說，以文本細讀的方法，及結合作者的生平，分析他在小說中如何論述城市、鄉村，並試圖梳理賈平凹筆下的城鄉關係的轉變，及把他的城鄉論述置於文學史角度觀看其傳承。本文無意探究賈平凹小說中敘述的城市、鄉村的情況、面貌，與現實中的城鄉之異同，也不會討論小說中的城鄉與社會之間的關連，我所關心的只是作者在作品中怎樣論述城鄉關係，城鄉在文本中的相互對話，並希望以文學史角度觀看他的城鄉論述的傳承，由此探看鄉土文學在中國現代、當代文學中能「香火不斷」的獨特現象。

Guarding Moral Boundaries: Shame In Early Confucianism, Jane Geaney

Claims that China is a ‘‘shame culture’’ tend to presume that guilt is the superior moral motivation. Such claims characterize guilt as internally motivated and operative even if no outsider is aware of any wrongdoing. By contrast, they assume that shame occurs only when someone is observed. The observer represents the moral opinion of an outsider, and, as a result, shame is said to be externally motivated. In this view, genuinely moral motivation is internal. Internality is seen as a requirement for moral autonomy (the ability to make decisions independent of particular social norms), and only guilt cultures are thought …

從妒到療妒 : 談《獅吼記》中的柳月娥, Qianqing Li

明人汪廷訥(生卒年尚無定論，估計大約生於萬曆年間)所著傳奇──《獅吼記》，是一個有關宋人陳季常與妻子柳月娥夫婦間的故事。這個故事所以為後人認識，全為柳氏之妒；然而這故事所以能在當時流行，卻全仗「妒」之反面──「療妒」。「妒」與「療妒」的故事在明朝所載甚多，¹ 卻以《獅吼記》最為有名。

《獅吼記》中的柳氏，代表了不甘服從男權社會的另類力量，她以不同的方式阻止丈夫狎妓遠遊，並希望透過禁錮來杜絕丈夫納妾的機會。雖然她最終回到中饋角色，成為傳統要求的賢德之婦，但這種另類的女性的精神價值，卻十分值得探討。

本文將從三部分分析《獅吼記》這個故事。第一部分將簡論有關妒婦的由來與定義。第二部分將嘗試探討有關「療妒」故事的出現與及特殊意義。第三部分將以《獅吼記》中的柳月娥作為研究對象，從故事中出現的療妒情節探討她的行為轉變，本文並不純粹採用「成長」的觀念，而是採用群體心理學來分析她的行為轉變，嘗試將療妒作一個更科學化的闡釋。最後將總結柳氏能成為妒婦代表人物的原因。

粵語流行曲拗音問題初探 : 以2000年-2004年粵語流行曲歌詞為例, Nga Ying Cheng

粵語流行曲在香港大行其道，深受普羅大眾歡迎。但是我們聽粵語流行曲，除了欣賞其旋律節奏外，還會留意流行曲的歌詞。歌詞是歌曲的靈魂，歌手和填詞人都能透過歌詞傳情達意。因此，歌詞的內容､意象和用詞都很重要。但若在表達歌詞意思時，沒有熟練的協音技巧，那麼聽眾就不知歌手唱什麼。聽眾既聽不清楚歌詞，更遑論享受歌詞的內容､意象和用詞了。因此，協音是最基本的填詞技巧。

但是，放眼本港粵語流行曲，拗音的例子俯拾皆是。這當然與粵音音調的 特殊性有關(九個聲調)，也和粵語填詞的慣例(先曲後詞)有關，但這不應成為歌詞拗音的藉口。相反，填詞人應取長補短，無論在內容､意象､用詞和協音技巧上都應力臻完美。

由於拗音問題在粵語流行曲中仍十分普遍，因此本文特以 60 首近年(2000年-2004年)的粵語流行曲為探討對象，希望能引起填詞人及歌手對拗音問題的注意，從而提高粵語流行曲歌詞的質素，使粵語流行曲不只是一件商品，還是一件藝術品，這樣也有助推廣粵語正音。

透過本文，我們可得出以下結論：

第一，拗音多見於以下情況：旋律音階為「二O」，卻填上「OO」音高的字。

第二，填詞人可用彈性的協音技巧和上文下理來協音或減低拗音問題的嚴重性。但協音彈性原則不一定適用於任何情況，填詞人應按照實際情況來使用協音彈性原則。

第三，即使字音音高走向與旋律音階走向一致，沒有逆向，也不一定能協音。

第四，歌手的演繹亦有可能出現拗音問題，因此拗音問題不單是填詞人的責任。

唐代俠客風貌概述, Zhiliang Wan

本文研究的主題是：俠客在唐代的角色身份和對當時整個時代（包括統治模式、人民生活、道德觀念等等）的影響。從現在已掌握的資料去看，我們可看到唐代的俠有以下若干的特點：第一，唐代的俠熱衷於入世建功，不管是亂世還是治世。一如其他朝代，亂世的軍閥樂於利用俠去達到他們的目標。而太平盛世之後，統治者亦繼續重用俠客，賞其高官厚爵，建府開牙。這是唐代特有的現象；第二，唐代行刺風氣極盛，這實況直接的影響了小說的創作。刺客思想行為上和 俠有相通點，以致後世學者為此爭論不休。而武俠神怪化亦在當時的小說中開始流行，對後世的武俠小說發展影響極為深遠；第三，以現代的道德觀點切入，唐代俠客的行為可以說缺乏人道主義觀念。現代人常將俠客和仁義並舉，但閱讀描寫唐代俠客的文獻（不論文學創作作品還是歷史資料），卻會發現那根本是兩碼子的事。

針對以上所指出的現象，我提出一些問題：一）究竟俠在歷史角逐爭雄中扮演著甚麼角色？二）朝廷對於這群俠又是甚麼態度？三）刺客能否算俠？四）從甚麼時候開始俠客和仁義道德之間畫上了等號？五）假設俠是不人道的，為什麼歷代的人民，甚至學者（如章太炎等）又會對他們推崇備至？六）小說家為什麼將俠客塑造成武功出類拔萃的一群？

研究方法方面，我主要採用的材料是唐代的傳奇和相關的歷史材料。傳奇大部份取材自《太平廣記》，而歷史材料則以《新唐書》和《舊唐書》為主。本文 的主要研究方法是透過傳奇小說和歷史材料兩方面的印證和配合，從而刻畫出唐代俠客的一些特色風貌。

轉變．鄉土．對抗 : 論黃春明前期作品中的小人物, Sze Ting Hau

1977 年的鄉土文學論戰，引發有關文學的作用及何謂「鄉土文學」等爭議。文學的作用，究竟是為了個人抑或是社會，一直有不少討論。黃春明的寫作，顯然是為了社會，他是台灣著名作家，以寫實的手法刻劃小人物真實、純真的一面。透過他一系列的作品，我們可以窺見台灣六七十年代的社會發展。

本文主要討論《青番公的故事》、《溺死一隻老貓》、《看海的日子》與《兒子的大玩偶》等作品，並探討其中小人物的形象。這些作品，都是黃春明的成名作，它們代表著黃春明熟練、樸實的寫作手法。

論文主要分四個部分，前言部分簡介黃春明。正文部分，分兩部分，第一部分，簡介何謂鄉土文學，及談談黃春明小說的主題；第二部分，詳細解說黃春明 筆下的小人物，面對社會的轉變，怎樣以頑強的生命力，解決那些問題。這部分可說是本文的重心。後語部分總結全文，及記述學者對黃春明的評價。

論《壹週刊》與香港社會文化的關係, Zhiren Liu

雜誌已成為都市人接收訊息重要的一環。九十年代初成衣商人黎智英創辦了《壹週刊》雜誌，令雜誌界產生了不同層面的變化，亦影響了香港的整體社會文化。透過《壹週刊》來研究香港社會文化，可說是較為有代表性，因它在相同類型雜誌中擁有特別的歷史因素和影響力。本文的目的，就是希望研究《壹週刊》與香港社會文化之間，所出現的互動和微妙關係。讀者是隨著流行讀物而改變生活模式，所謂「潮流興乜就跟乜」，視雜誌為潮流的指標；流行讀物亦會因應讀者口味或社會文化，去改變其報導內容；社會文化被流行讀物影響著它的發展，它又會影響讀者的行為和思想。這種微妙的互動關係，正在香港這傳媒發展日趨蓬勃的地方，有著健全而具影響力之發展。論文以《壹週刊》為主線，從讀者、社會與雜誌之間的關係，分析它們怎樣影響著雜誌的選題方向及風格路線。

單從香港社會文化來說，雜誌掌握不同時代的流行話題，或是未成氣候的潮 流資訊，而成為最新鮮題材。因此，雜誌內容以通俗文化及讀者需要而改變，例 如他們對生活質素上的講求、對事物的好奇心態等，因此潮流雜誌能告訴我們香港人的心態，論文會研究《壹週刊》內容特色怎樣表現香港社會文化。此外，《壹週刊》從九十年代開始，成為紀錄香港社會轉變的重要雜誌之一，從「縱向」層 面來說，文章會分析《壹週刊》眼中，香港在政治、經濟及生活上十多年來有著甚麼轉變；從「橫向」層面上，在同一件新聞中，它跟其他報刊在內容上所取的重點及文字表達方法，又是否一樣呢？是帶動還是抹黑著香港社會文化？讀者又是否應該要懂得分別題材的真確性呢？論文透過不同層次的比較方法，研究雜誌與社會文化的微妙關係。論文的最後部份，會深入探討《壹週刊》對香港社會及傳媒文化的各種影響，評論《壹週刊》的存在意義和價值。

選定以傳媒文化為畢業論文的主題，全因為對傳媒的興趣及它所發出的威力。一本雜誌能夠影響著社會各層面，如市民對時事的判斷和立場、潮流話題與 喜好等，影響範圍之廣實在不容忽視。當我從電影、電視、報紙、雜誌等傳媒類別收窄題材範圍之後，決定利用《壹週刊》為論文研究對象，希望透過雜誌背景及內容的獨特性，研究香港社會文化跟雜誌之間互相影響的關係。其實論文起初開始下筆時，遇到最大的問題是怎樣客觀地分析研究對象和以自己的角度評論雜誌，正因為《壹週刊》是我經常閱讀的雜誌，有很多看法已經變得根深柢固，要從讀者身份抽離初時並不容易，後來經過閱讀不同的書籍和文章，令我對香港傳媒及《壹週刊》有更深入的了解，問題已逐漸解決。

在搜集資料方面，每一期的《壹週刊》當然是重要的材料，但論文有些部份需分析《壹週刊》的內容及對社會的影響，亦因將不同材料套入論文主題作比較， 要配合《壹週刊》及其他相關雜誌作為例子，所以需要尋找不同年份而又適合的雜誌，是一件比較艱巨的事情。幸好，每當我「出征」香港大學圖書館「香港特藏資料區」時，總會找到些令我驚喜的資料，這可算是研究論文過程中的原動力。

由去年開始定題，其後無間斷地搜集資料、寫作、會見指導老師……重覆以上動作超過十個月的時間。此畢業論文可算是本人「十月懷胎」的孩子吧﹗不知道他/她的體重是否足「六磅四」呢？﹗

一、寫作動機及內容

「當初我在設計學院出來時，滿腔熱誠，很有『火』，畢業後馬上找一份設計的工作。」我一位從事設計行業的朋友這樣對我說。

「但做了半年，就知道根本不是你心中所想的。」他又說：「設計，起初很喜歡，後來很討厭。處處受人掣肘，不是能夠發圍的行業。」

「當一切都不屬於自己的時候，就會覺得什麼都不在乎了。」最後他總結：「我現在已經完全麻目了，設計只是一份工作。我不需要掌聲，收貨就好。」

我聽著他的話，覺得非常悲哀，又可怕。我還沒有畢業，打工的經驗也少，未能完全了解他的感受。但我不斷地想：現實，究竟能將人的理想磨蝕到什麼樣的程度呢?它能夠把人的意志扭曲成什麼模樣呢?我想探究這些問題，於是寫了〈殺寇〉。

二、寫作目標

我想探討一個人的轉變。

與原作者直接對話，固然能直接了解他的心路歷程，然而，這樣的故事想必會流於單調乏味吧，於是我採用了雙故事線發展的模式：「我」除了與創作者交談外，更直接對創作者的作品加以描述。我採用「連載漫畫」作媒介；透過「連載漫畫」的劇情發展，可窺探創作者的心理變化。

“京味小說”是中國現當代文壇一個令人矚目的文學流派﹐從創始人老舍到“新京味”王朔﹐五、六十年間呈現出鮮明的嬗變軌跡。但無論該流派怎樣變化﹐京味小說中的北京都有三層象徵意義﹐即“北京象徵中國”﹐“北京象 徵鄉土”﹐以及“北京的變化顯示中國社會變動的必然性與特殊性”。讓論者尤感興趣的是“北京象徵鄉土”的這一層象徵意義﹐在本人看來這裡的“鄉 土”有兩層含意﹐其一﹐中國知識分子的精神家園﹐建基於城與人的文化同構性﹔其二﹐代表該古老都市的民間。這兩層含義使得“京味小說”中的“知識 分子話語”和“民間話語”顯示出某種內在張力﹐豐富及擴大了它的精神內涵﹐ 在不同時期的“京味小說”裡展現了不同的角力關係﹐並以越來越大的幅度向民間傾斜。

本文主要通過解讀四篇不同時期京味小說的代表作﹐理出該流派的嬗變軌跡﹐採用的是文本細讀的方法。具體地說﹐首先根據“京味小說”定義的重點﹐ 從三大方面著手分析該流派的變化﹕北京人和北京事﹐北京話﹐以及北京的風土習俗。在分析“北京人和北京事”時﹐本文追蹤分析了四篇“京味小說”中 重複出現的道具﹐同時並置考察了文本中的寓意系統、人物的命運、主題、情節結構以及其他人物的部分功能﹐希望通過這種綜合分析﹐對該流派的變化闡述深入到上述“北京象徵鄉土”的兩層含義的張力關係方面。

Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood (1987) veers from his favored detective-fiction genre by offering readers a 1960s coming-of-age romance, a story whose plot nonetheless spins around the protagonist seeking out his personal identity. The conflicts between Japanese tradition and modern, global perspectives are illustrated through the inclusion of popular culture elements such as music, literature and films. This thesis seeks to show how the novel's references to popular culture of the 1960s combine to help the protagonist establish an identity for himself as well as his place within the universal community. Three approaches seem to characterize the reception of Vietnamese Literature in French: socio-historical, "essentialist" and feminist discourses. This article proposes to analyse the lack of theoretical thought and pertinence in some of the works published on the subject, which appear to introduce and promote this literature rather than study it. Part of a special section on mentoring. Ceramist Richard Bresnahan discusses his role as a mentor. Since setting up his first studio at St John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, in 1979, Bresnahan has trained 32 apprentices. To alleviate the poverty that is an extra burden for many apprentices, grants from the university, the studio, and regional foundations provide apprentices with housing, food, health care, and a small monthly stipend. Globally, population migration has been associated with the spread ofHIV/STDs in many countries. A similar trend has been observed in China from the very beginning of the HIV epidemic, but empirical research is very limited. "Chinese Women Unbound" gives a brief historical background of the status of women in China and presents a well documented history of the evolutionary process of Chinese women's emancipation-from the first missionary school for girls in the 1840s, to the first females admitted to Beijing University in the late 1920s, the marriage law of 1950, and the divorce rate in the 1990s, among other events. The paper also discusses Chinese women's involvement in the 1911-1912 revolution, the Communist revolution, and the modernization of Chinese economy. 2003 dissertation, UW-Madison, Buddhist Studies. A study of the life of the Kūkai (774-822), known posthumously by the honorific title Kōbō Daishi (Great Teacher who Propagated the Dharma). Kūkai is best known as the founder of Japanese Shingon Tantric Buddhism. The study is based primarily on writings attributed to him and his immediate followers and secondarily on early legends (those apparently dating from the Heian period) as identified by modern researchers. This is a study of the Chinese American experience in Lowell, Massachusetts, over the century from the 1870s through the 1970s. I have selected this period for study because the 1870s witnessed the first appearance of Chinese laundries in Lowell, and the 1970s, the disappearance of Chinese laundries in Lowell. Notably, this study attempts to fill in two existing gaps in historical scholarship. 《 養龍人師門 》 是也斯的短篇小說集 ，本小說集出版於一九七九年，一共收錄短篇小說十六篇。這十六篇小說分兩輯，第一輯是寫實的作品：《第一天》、《船上》、《鯊魚》、《家》、《斷耳的兔子》、《熱浪》、《破碎》、《鞋子》、《病孩子》、《波光》等九篇。第二輯是魔幻寫實手法為主的作品：《李大嬸的袋錶》、《蟻》、《玉杯》、《修理匠》、《雜技的故事》、《養龍人師門》。還有一篇後記《影印機與 神話》。作者說：「第一輯的小說有明顯的香港的背景……第二輯的小說，在外貌上看來完全是非寫 實的，但事實上還是當時對現實的反應 ，促使我寫下這些不現實的東西 。 」

《養龍人師門》的材料，散見於《繹史》、《史記》、《左傳》、《列仙傳》, 而也斯在自己小說裡則以《養龍人師門》是根據《列仙傳》上面所載的傳說寫成 的。不過，也斯依據不僅是《列仙傳》的記載，而是以袁珂《中國古代神話》裡有關孔甲養龍的故事作藍本。袁珂的《中國古代神話》二六六頁至二六八頁裡， 袁珂把散見於各書的資料加以合整理，使師門與孔甲的故事有了連貫的、有組織的面貌。
