李榮主編，白宛如編纂的《廣州方言詞典》(南京：江蘇教育出版社，1998年）收「食皇家飯」一條，釋義為「指坐牢」（頁484)，祇作了非常簡單的釋義，並沒有說明意義的由來。我懷疑「食皇家飯」這個短語是受了香港粤語的影響。香港在一九九七年回歸祖國之前，長期受英國政府的殖民統治，當時香港人就習慣稱「港英政府」為「皇家」。鄭定歐編纂的《香港粤語詞典》(南京：江蘇教育出版社，1997年），收「皇家垃圾」一條，釋義如下：「指香港政府的剩餘物資。如退役的消防局的救火車、警隊的警車等。港府往往將這些剩餘物資與海關充公物品、郵局無人認領的包裹、市政署從無營業執照的小商販那裏沒收來的貨品，一併公開拍賣。買者被稱為『收垃圾集團』」（頁291)。吳開斌，《香港話詞典》(廣州：花城出版社，1997年）收「皇家工」和「皇家飯店」二條。其中「皇家工」條釋曰：「香港政府僱員」(頁278)，而「皇家飯店」條釋曰：「(謔）監獄，住在裏面可吃皇糧」（頁278)。此外，當時香港警隊的全名是「皇家香港警察」（Royal Hong Kong Police Force)。這些都足以說明「皇家」的用法在回歸前十分普遍。

Hsieh Liang-tso is the first volume to explore Chinese traditions in the Academy Series sponsored by Oxford and the American Academy of Religion. Most previous titles in the series focus on Christianity, which perhaps explains Selover’s attention to the perspectives of comparative religions and comparative theology in his introduction. There he briefly traces the history of the issues concerning the religious dimensions of the Chinese literati tradition and outlines a comparative framework for approaching eleventh-century Chinese thought. Inspired by Robert Neville’s Beyond the Masks of God, Selover focuses in the introduction on four themes—scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. This framework, …

This article investigates the notion of the unfinished work. In Pirandello studies the word unfinished holds particular importance. Luigi Pirandello's last, and one of his major works, I giganti della montagna [The Mountain Giants] was not completed. Interlanguage pragmatics (Kasper & Blum-Kulka, 1993) is a research area that is concerned with what second language (L2) learners do with the target language, and how their competence in using the language develops over time. However, until 1996 when Kasper and Schmidt put out agendas for more developmentally oriented investigations, research on interlanguage pragmatics had been predominated by studies focusing on the former, L2 use at a point in time. This research area has matured more by now in the area of developmental interlanguage pragmatics, as reviewed in Kasper and Rose (2002). The Sounds Of Japanese Noise: First Generation Of Japanese Noise-Artists, Ana Maria Alarcon Jimenez

This article presents pan of my research on a type of electronic music known as Japanese noise carried out for my Honors Thesis in Music, Creating Silence through Noise: an Aesthetic Approach to the Sounds of "Japanese noise". It introduces Japanese noise, its origins in the 1970s and 1980s, its musical influences, and the early distribution of its pieces. The first generation of Japanese noise artists and their perceptions of Tokyo are then discussed. Finally, the possibility is advanced of a correlation between such perceptions of the city and the sounds of Japanese noise.

女性主義(Feminism) 強調女性受制於男性意識形態的壓迫，力圖瓦解父權文化予以女性的種種社會、文化的不平等設定。聯結女性力量，倡導女性情誼， 建立「姐妹之邦」是女性主義者抗衡男性社會的一種策略，也是她們念茲在茲的「理想國」。見於女性文學創作中，女作家如何書寫女性情誼及建構、想像她們的「姐妹之邦」，在在值得我們考察和研究。本文討論三位中國大陸女作家—林白、鐵凝、王安憶，她們作品中姊妹們的世界，既不同於理論家構想的女性「大同世界」，姊妹之間也未必情深，反而是醜化女性、質疑女性情誼的美好理想。但當我們追蹤她們書寫女性情誼的軌跡，何嘗不是她們追尋自我、 社會認同的血淚史。

論文分成五章。第一章是緒論，介紹研究目的、範圍。第二章討論林白對女性主義理論亦步亦趨的「實踐」，筆下的女性情誼是用來與男性對抗的策略。 第三章是分析鐵凝以女性為中心的家族情仇小說，她筆下的女性之間親情倫理關係，她們既是相濡以沫的親人，又是怨恨交織的仇敵。第四章是討論王安憶小說中的「姊妹情誼」。她一方面讚美、追憶女友間真摯情誼，另方面描寫女性情誼的虛偽與脆弱。第五章是結論，從女性主義文學評論角度，考察三位女作家敘述的女性情誼，使我們思考理論家的學說與作家寫作之間的呼應與差異。

唐代詩人韋應物雖在文學史上有一定地位，但歷來對他的研究卻一直欠全面。近年有關韋應物其人其詩的專論漸多，但部份論者囿於傳統分期之說，以至討論有所偏頗；亦有論者側重於詩人某些特質，或因循白居易「頗近興諷」 之論，強調詩人的諷喻詩；或從「王孟韋柳」淡雅之說，獨論詩人的閑適詩， 雖時有高見，然既未能綜合各類詩來分析、討論，又未與其生平、思想、性格配合來互相闡發。詩人今存詩五百餘首，數量甚多，實難以一言以蔽之。今人林水檺以「相當複雜」來形容韋詩的思想性和藝術性，可謂非常有見地。本文關注韋應物不同風格的詩作之間的關係，希望經梳理後對他的創作歷程和詩風特徵作一全面的探討。

韋應物詩的內容風格雖然多樣化，但主題顯明突出，本文分析有三種；第一種針對時局而生興諷，詩人着眼現實，表現出激越的情緒。第二種往事追憶， 詩人通過不斷的精神回溯，試圖為苦悶的現實尋找出路。第三種居官如隱，詩人兼容身處的繁囂塵網與內心的清靜幽境為一體。以上三種主題發展出三類揉合韋應物獨特性情和生活經驗的詩歌作品：興諷詩、追憶詩和吏隱詩。本文將探討主題、作品和詩人的關係，希望研究出推動詩人用詩來興諷、追憶和兼容身心為一所的力量。

本文將分為六章：第一章：緒論：韋應物研究概況、研究動機和方法；第二章：韋應物生平略述；第三章：興諷詩分析。第四章：追憶詩分析，此章分為兩節，第一節討論詩人追憶開元盛世並且力求擺脫現實困逼的追憶作品；第二節探討詩人無特定追憶對象但反映長期處於不滿和苦悶狀態的追憶作品。第五章：吏隱詩――詩人對仕宦的態度和天性澹泊融合的結果。第六章：總結。

錢鍾書與張愛玲小說的語言風格研究, Chi Ming Tam

自夏志清的《中國現代小說史》專章討論錢鍾書（1910-1998）和張愛玲 （1921-1995）的小說後，不少學者對二人小說的藝術手法、主題、意識形態、以及修辭等各方面都作過深入的探討；但是，真正把他們的作品作為「語料」 看待，並嘗試從語言角度討論的論著並不多。故此，本文嘗試以風格學（Stylistics） 考察二人使用語言的習慣，務求呈現他們小說作品的「風格」（Style）。

眾所周知，錢鍾書和張愛玲的語言可說「獨步文壇」。因此，本文的寫作目的有三：（1）通過語法和修辭技巧的描述，呈現二人遣詞用字的習慣；（2）了解二人風格迥異的原因；（3）比較二人在比喻、對話、人物描寫等方面的異同。

本文以語言學理論為考察的準則，論文以分析、比較、歸納、演繹、引例等論證方法撰寫。本文共分五章：

（一） 導論：說明研究動機和研究範圍。另外，理論基礎、研究方法和準則，以及「言語風格」、「語言風格」、「風格學」的定義，也包括在這部分。

（二） 錢鍾書語言風格研究：細析錢氏小說遣詞用字的特色，包括「語音手段」、「悖詞」（oxymoron）、「同異」、「仿詞」、「仿格」、「拆詞」、 「別解」、「疊現」、「誇張」、「引用」等修辭手法分析；而錢氏小說裏複句的特點，以及「歐化現象」，也是本章的討論範圍。

（三） 張愛玲語言風格研究：分析她作品裏的「顏色詞」、「象聲詞」、「疊 用字詞」的語法特色。她小說裏「古典小說詞匯」、「文語成分」、 詞尾「然」的考察，以及「歐化現象」也會在本章討論。

（四） 錢鍾書與張愛玲合論：從三方面比較二人的小說語言：（1）比喻。 涉及兩者比喻的結構形式，也會討論到他們用喻的獨特性；（2） 人物描寫的語言。考察二人描寫小說人物的行文習慣；（3）對話。 分析二人小說人物對話的特色和功能。

（五） 結論：總結二人的語法手段及效果，並根據前三章的研究，分析二人通過甚麼語法手段而產生他們的迥然不同的個人風格。

高行健之戲劇 : 理論與實踐, Ching Law

高行健的戲劇作品與理論，兼備中西文化主題（motifs），東西方劇場的手法，最適合作比較文學的範例。本文全面分析高行健的劇作與理論，從主題與形式兩方面，審度劇作中重複出現追尋自我的主題。其劇作包括《絕對信號》、《車站》、《野人》、《彼岸》、《冥城》、《逃亡》、《山海經傳奇》、《生死界》、《對話與反詰》、《夜遊神》、《周末四重奏》、《八月雪》、《叩問死亡》；五個現代折子戲包括《模仿者》、《躲雨》、《行路難》、《喀巴拉山口》、《獨白》；一個舞劇《聲聲慢變奏》共計十八部戲劇。又整理探究理論文集《對一種戲劇的追求》、《沒有主義》、以及《文學的理由》。作者的主體意識扣緊不同時期的逃亡經驗，經一番外求與內尋的過程，不斷抗衡與否定不同的「他者」。這種抗衡，固然呈現人類本質的狀態，卻缺乏主體的自主性，也展示主題的矛盾。因為無論「他者」怎樣不斷置換為集體、強權、中國、性、慾望等對象，也不能抹殺其先於主體的實存性，反倒確立了主體的依附性。所以他的主體都一貫逃避中心、集體、缺乏實質的內涵，卻又內外交困，無法安頓。這種不斷反詰的精神，又反映在劇作的「間離」的形式上。高行健以敘事、三重角色與儀式（rituals），間離觀眾與角色。雖然他追求戲劇本質，嘗試回復中國儺戲與戲曲的傳統，也緊隨現當代劇作家如布萊希特（Bertolt Brecht）、惹奈（Jean Genet），但是難以調動觀眾的直覺感知經驗，達至娛人的目的。更有甚者，因為敘事手法的視點所限，宣揚個人主義的目的，昭然若揭。他的儀式意在增強戲劇的假定性，不在於回歸中國的佛道傳統，但效果不彰。他的「表演三重論」源於中國戲曲與布萊希特，貢獻止於為表演的監控意識命名，缺乏系統落實的方法，故難以與斯坦尼斯夫斯基（Konstantin Stanislavsky）、以及格羅多夫斯基（Jerzy Grotowski）的表演系統相提並論。本文試以高行健的劇作與理論，與現當代的國際劇作家、以及劇場理論家的成就互相發明，以鑑定其戲劇地位。

The late Heian-period poet/monk Saigyō (西行1118-1190) has long been considered one of the most talented of Japan’s waka poets. Twenty-four female Eastern red bats (Lasiurus borealis) were captured and tracked to foraging areas near the Indianapolis International Airport during the summers of2003 and 2004 with full foraging data obtained on 13. A series ofmulti-azimuth (3-7) triangulations was used to estimate the location of each bat throughout the night. Euclidean distance analysis was used to examine habitat use by L. borealis. These bats had smaller home ranges than previously noted as well as smaller home ranges than other species at this location. They foraged over woodlands, newly planted tree fields, open water, park and pasture lands more than predicted by …

A very prominent feature of the Korean language is its extensive honorifics system, where the speaker is obliged to adopt a level of speech (deferential vs. informal) befitting the status of the target audience. As the context for using deferential (informal) speech parallels the setting for prevention (promotion) focus, we set out to examine whether the Korean honorifics system itself functions as a natural prime for regulatory orientation. In Study 1, we find that deferential (informal) speech style activates prevention (promotion) focus in the addressee. As usual, the 2005 Chinese Rooster New Year celebrations in Beijing highlighted the annual Earth Temple Fair (Ditan Miaohui) as an indispensable attraction. In recent years, this entertaining space featuring red lanterns, lion dances, and revived folk performances has been widely and officially advocated as an occasion and place to appreciate “national culture (minzu wenhua)” and to experience “folk culture (minsu wenhua).” In the commodified and globalized metropolitan capital of the nation, the Fair forms a symbolic space where traditionality is celebrated to label national identity. Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) wrote numerous film-treatments inspired by his short-stories and plays that were not completed as films. Among the never completed films there is La Nuova Colonia. The history of the film-project La Nuova Colonia [The New Colony] is important for the further understanding of Pirandello’s poetics. Nestled in the plot of Pirandello’s novel Suo marito [Her Husband], La Nuova Colonia took on independent life in 1926 as the play of the same name that premiered in Rome in March 1928.
