Shaping Relaxing Short Videos With Animation Principles: A Preliminary Study On Rhythm And Temporal Expectation, Chia-Chieh Tsai, Yi-Hsuan Li, Ko-Chiu Wu, Chi-Hao Lung

This study is based on five selected principles from the Twelve Basic Principles of Animation to design short video breathing guidance interfaces with different combinations of rhythm regularity and temporal expectation. An experiment with thirty participants was conducted to examine how these temporal design factors influence relaxation experience, attentional performance, and cognitive load. Data were collected through EEG recordings, subjective questionnaires, and interviews. The results indicate that interfaces with stable rhythmic structures and clear temporal cues significantly reduced uncertainty and cognitive load, enhanced relaxation, and improved user experience. Although user journey mapping is widely employed to analyze and diagnose user experiences, it offers limited support for design exploration and refining product and service concepts. Recent advances in generative AI have created new opportunities to reconceive the journey map as a tool for creative design inquiry. This study first identifies the limitations of existing tools and then conducts a formative investigation to clarify the requirements for a new approach. The dialogue in the studio environment can reveal a lot about the mechanisms at play when teaching about and doing formgiving. From analysing language used in “desk-crits” at a master’s level mobility course, this paper reveals three distinct mechanisms at play when discussing form in industrial design. Contemporary visual warning systems primarily rely on conspicuity—using strong contrasts in color, brightness, and spatial arrangement—to attract attention. However, these systems often fail to ensure accurate interpretation and appropriate user response, particularly among cognitively vulnerable populations and within complex environments. To complement this limitation, this study introduces the concept of distinctiveness as a perceptual factor that enhances discrimination and interpretation in visual warning perception. In traditional exhibition practice, displays are predominantly object-centered, and information flows remain largely unidirectional, positioning visitors as passive recipients. Under this conventional curatorial paradigm, cultural translation and meaning-making processes are comparatively static and singular. This paper, therefore, seeks to articulate the interrelationships among humans, artifacts, space, and technology, thereby constructing a dynamically participatory and complex system for the expression of cultural, historical, and artistic narratives. Caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) encounter various challenges that lead to stress and burnout. Although multi-modal behavioral information holds potential for improving caregiving efficiency in healthcare, there is still limited research on adapting these technologies to address the unique requirements of ID caregivers. Current sustainable food packaging often emphasises material innovation at the expense of user behaviours role across the life cycle, creating a “sustainability paradox” where environmental gains are offset by behavioural misalignment. Accidental Suffocation and Strangulation in Bed (ASSB), often caused by unsafe sleep positions such as prone sleeping, remains a leading cause of preventable infant death. While conventional baby monitors provide alerts, they cannot intervene pro actively. This paper introduces FloMat, an intelligent infant sleep safety system designed to autonomously correct dangerous sleep positions without disturbing the infant. The system integrates visual monitoring to detect mouth-nose occlusion and uses low-boiling-point liquid-to-gas phase- change actuators to reposition the infant without generating audible noise. This study explores this issue through a co-creation workshop focused on how designers without domain knowledge conceptualize Human-Robot Interaction for a future space station. This study proposes an ontological redefinition of empathy in design practice. Empathy has been conventionally framed as a cognitive means for understanding users, often through techniques such as observation and interviews. In contrast, this study reconceptualizes empathy as a mode of being that emerges within relationships—including those involving more-than-human entities such as nature and things. This comparative study examines how Arm's-Length Bodies (ALBs) in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Denmark address the persistent gap between design education and industry employment needs. By analyzing regional contexts and the institutional logics, methods, and intermediation roles of five representative organizations, the study reveals both shared concerns and divergent approaches. While the education-to-employment gap is a universal issue, all organizations emphasize designer upskilling, the development of design learning platforms, and engagement in research and policy advocacy. In recent years, generative artificial intelligence has been widely adopted in design and creative practices. However, its tendency to produce “hallucinations”—outputs characterized by illogical ity, bias, or factual inaccuracy—is often regarded as a system flaw. From the perspective of speculative design, which aims not to solve problems but to destabilize assumptions, such generative disruptions can serve as potent catalysts for reimagining futures. This paper re-evaluates the creative potential of AI hallucination through the methodological lens of speculative fiction and design. Evolution of contemporary exhibition practices has challenged the dominance of the traditional ‘white cube’ model, which emphasizes the autonomy of artworks but often limits emotional engagement. This study examines audience interaction mechanisms and spatial experience in Chinese non-galleries, particularly in tourist, residential, and commercial cultural environments. Usingamixed methodological approach combining field observations, behavioral analysis, and questionnaires, that examine show spatial morphology, curatorialstrategy, and audience behavior together contribute to shaping the immersive experience.
