This study investigates older adults' perceptions, expectations, and concerns regarding Virtual Reality (VR)-based grocery shopping, with the intention of exploring both barriers and opportunities within virtual retail environments and obtaining design insights towards an age-friendly VR shopping platform. Using a mixed-method approach, that includes VR trials, interviews, observations, and focus groups, this study identifies key opportunities and limitations of VR shopping for aged 65+ customers. Findings suggest several benefits of VR shopping, including enhanced mobility, immersive realism, reduced decision fatigue, and cognitive and sensory engagement. As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms professional design practice, academic programs face the challenge of preparing students for AI-augmented creative work while maintaining foundational skills and values. This case study examines a faculty-led initiative within the College of Design at a US University, where a sprint-style working group was formed to develop recommendations for integrating AI into design curricula. This study investigates how authenticity is perceived, constructed, and emotionally experienced within hanbok rental services for global tourists in Seoul and Busan, South Korea. Employing a qualitative, design-driven case study approach, the research integrates immersive observation, digital ethnography, and focus group interviews to map emotional and symbolic touch points across the rental journey. This study investigates the role of 'ugly-cute' design in shaping young consumers' aesthetic preferences and purchase decisions, using plush toys as the research object. Grounded in Donald Norman's emotional design theory, it explores how unconventional visual features challenge traditional aesthetic norms while eliciting emotional resonance and supporting self-expression. This paper introduces MuSE (Multispecies Sensory Engagement), an interactive silicone bioreactor designed to create emotional bonds between humans and kombucha SCOBY microorganisms. Guided by a More-than-Human-Centered-Design (MtHCD) and Research through Design (RtD) framework, this project applies the concepts of exposure therapy and embodied cognition to biology-based HCI, using an auto-ethnographic approach to explore how sensory interactions can shift human perceptions of less relatable life forms. Virtual Reality (VR) offers opportunities for interactive learning, yet how presence relates to efficacy depends on task design, system control, and learner characteristics. This study examined how presence, system task design (SYS), and learner traits—including baseline efficacy and GPT-based interaction— shape technology adoption (TAM) and technological efficacy (TE) in browser-based VR. Eighty students completed web-based VR scenarios, and data analyzed with structural equation and generalized additive models. The SEM model showed good fit (robust CFI = .95). AI hallucination and bias are commonly viewed as flaws, leading to a premature narrowing of their design space and an under-exploration of their potential to enrich community ties and meaning of place. Focusing on digital placemaking context, this research investigates how innocuous AI imperfections could foster interaction and connection between intercultural communities. We conducted workshops with Dutch locals and migrants who co-created and interacted with Generative AI applications that produced diverse content about places. Drawing from a structured reflection journal approach within a multi- week design course, the research investigates how students monitor, regulate, and reflect on their design thinking across project stages. Rapid advances in generative AI (GenAI) have created both opportunities and challenges that have transformed the landscape for design education. While GenAI offers new ways to envision and explore entire design processes—from framing design challenges to generating design output—its influence on studio-based learning practices and environments remains under explored. In the highly competitive and homogeneous pure Internet banking sector, customer experience is pivotal for differentiation. Prior research remains limited to static analyses, failing to explain dynamic loyalty transitions. This study thus investigates how experience dimensions drive loyalty shifts in pure Internet banking and proposes segment-specific management strategies. This study explores how, under the trend of financial inclusion, designers can apply service design methods to embed human-centered thinking into fintech enterprises, thereby facilitating strategic transformation and guiding organizations to shift their focus from large enterprises to micro, small, and medium-sized businesses to achieve more inclusive services. This study explores how design can contribute to collecting training data for AI models in complex clinical settings, particularly in the context of mental health counseling. Conventional labeling methods only record outcomes, failing to capture moments of expert judgment. This limits AI’s ability to learn the nuances of clinical reasoning. This study applies service design methodology to optimize adoption services and promote responsible adoption behavior across two public shelters in eastern Taiwan. Eight teams, composed of designers and business professionals, participated in co-creation workshops where the availability of Big Data and Thick Data was systematically manipulated. The resulting ideas were evaluated across three dimensions: ‘Novelty’, ‘Usefulness’, and ‘Commercial Appeal’. Additionally, follow-up interviews were conducted to capture participants’ reflections on the collaborative idea generation process, utilizing the collected data. This paper investigates how designers utilise the past as part of the design process which stands as an under explored facet of design practice. Drawing on in-depth interviews (n=11) with professionals from both design and memory institution contexts—galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM) that support design heritage in service of the public—we examine what aspects of the past designers engage with, including which pasts. This research study examines the notion of posthuman welfare in communication design, focusing on the affordances of assistive and interactive technologies recontextualised within more-than-human-centred frameworks. The study furthers the ongoing critique of anthropocentrism in design, highlighting the necessity of integrating nonhuman agency and emotive value into technology systems. This paper explores the conceptual design of an online “Memory Space” for long-distance partners by integrating memory taxonomy and architectural boundary theory within a virtual reality context.
