The continued evolution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has compromised neutralizing antibody responses elicited by prior infection or vaccination and abolished the utility of most monoclonal antibody therapeutics. We previously described a computationally-designed, homotrimeric miniprotein inhibitor, designated TRI2-2, that protects mice against pre-Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here, we show that TRI2-2 exhibits broadly neutralizing activity of SARS-CoV-2 variants and protects mice against BQ.1.1, XBB.1.5 and BA.2.86 challenge when administered intranasally post-exposure. ObjectivesThe chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients were at high risk for severe clinical complications during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our objectives were to evaluate comorbidity prevalence; predict mortality risks for CKD patients during the pandemic; assess how various health factors interact to influence mortality; and provide insights for targeted prevention strategies.MethodWe analysed data from 186,396 CKD patients in Mexico during the entire pandemic (Jan 2020- May 2023). Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) methods with extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) models and Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) were developed to predict mortality for CKD patients with model interpretations. Background: Systematic profiling of plasma proteins in population studies offers a complementary approach to discovery of novel risk factors and may provide new insights into the causes of coronary heart disease.

Methods: To explore relationships between the circulating proteome and coronary heart disease (CHD), we evaluated associations of 4780 plasma proteins with incident CHD in the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS, N=2856, 575 CHD events) and replicated significant associations in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (ARIC, N = 10456; 1375 events).

Psalm 137 presents a paradigmatic expression of exile and lament, and the power of shared hope to return to the ancestral land. Memories trigger strong feelings and a firm resolve not to “forget” the ancestral home. This paper argues from a constructive perspective that in Psalm 137, the memory of ancestral land is not merely nostalgic or a source of grief, but it functions as a theological act that preserves communal identity and sustains hope for restoration and healing. This paper offers a critical evangelical response to Salvador G. Agualada Jr.’s analysis of the Protestant principle of sola Scripturaa, particularly his engagement with Roman Catholic critiques grounded in Yves Congar’s arguments concerning the temporal precedence of tradition and the alleged formal insufficiency of Scripture. While acknowledging the historical development of Protestant reflection on Scripture and tradition, this study argues that sola Scriptura is best understood not as the exclusion of tradition but as the affirmation of Scripture’s normative and final authority within the life of the church. Invariant natural killer T cells (NKTs) have intrinsic anti-tumor properties that make them promising candidates for chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) immunotherapies. Transgenic cytokine expression can enhance cellular therapy potency, and we hypothesized that co-expressing IL-18 alone or with IL-15 would boost CAR-NKT therapeutic potential. To test this, we generated retroviral constructs expressing IL-15 and/or IL-18 with an inducible caspase 9 safety switch and co-transduced them with a GD2-specific CAR into human NKTs. Co-expression of IL-18 or IL-15/IL-18 increased CAR-NKT cytotoxicity, proliferation, and cytokine secretion in vitro compared to IL-15 alone. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has identified intermediate epithelial states in pulmonary fibrosis, including KRT5-/KRT17+ aberrant basaloid cells in humans and Krt8+ alveolar differentiation intermediates (ADIs) in mice. Their functional contributions to fibrogenesis, however, remain unclear. Here, we introduce an RNA-sensing-dependent protein translation technology that enables selective targeting of Krt8+ ADI cells in vitro and in vivo. Transcriptomic analysis revealed Small Proline-Rich Protein 1 A (SPRR1A) mRNA as a shared marker of murine Krt8+ ADIs and human KRT5-/KRT17+ basaloid cells, distinguishing them from other lung cell populations. The readiness-to-work gap among graduates of signed language interpreting programs has been widely acknowledged for decades. Efforts to address the gap have primarily focused on training methods and student performance. This paper shifts the focus to interpreter educators, examining whether the inconsistencies in their awareness and use of discipline-related books may contribute to the disparate educational outcomes of students entering the workforce. Drawing on survey data from 75 interpreter educators in the United States, this study explores demographic patterns of their book awareness and usage in teaching. The intrinsic self-healing efficiency of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based polymers is extensively evaluated through tensile testing. Our research group has synthesized three novel, intrinsically self-healing polymers composed of bis (aminopropyl) terminated PDMS units reacted with diisocynates to form urea linkages. By altering the molecular weight range of the aminopropyl terminated PDMS starting material, polymers that yield different mechanical properties are created. The self-healing efficiencies and modulus of these novel polymers are evaluated via tensile testing to evaluate their overall strength and flexibility. The exact composition of terrestrial exoplanets remains the subject of great interest, from informing chances of habitability to our theories of planetary formation. Such information is difficult to resolve for exoplanets. Mass and radius alone may be used to determine a set of probable compositions, however if one uses average densities for iron and silicate an inaccurate composition is calculated. To more accurately determine composition, one must apply the effects of compression and differentiation. In this project we apply the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation and bulk modulus to accurately determine the possible compositions of terrestrial exoplanets.

From October 1927 through April 1928, three Oregon debaters traveled more than 25,000 miles to seventeen countries on four continents, participating in thirty-two debates and seventy-five public speaking engagements as part of the first-ever Debate World Tour. This tour was audacious, but indicative of a remarkable history of debate at Oregon. Bioactive peptides are produced from soy milk protein hydrolysis using trypsin. The research began with the preparation and separation of soy milk protein, followed by fractionation using ammonium sulphate, protein hydrolysis, and SDS-PAGE analysis of protein hydrolysates. Fractions exhibiting the highest degree of hydrolysis were further fractionated by SPE and tested to determine the antibacterial activity Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The peptide sequence of the active peptide as an antibacterial was identified, employing LC-HRMS.
