Aim: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common microvascular complication of diabetes and a leading cause of preventable vision loss. Understanding patients’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) toward DR screening and management is critical for designing effective interventions. This study aimed to assess the KAP of individuals with diabetes regarding DR in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Unlike other pyruvate kinase isoforms, PKM2 exhibits unique regulatory properties that allow it to switch between active tetrameric and less-active dimeric states, influencing both energy metabolism and biosynthetic pathways. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The prognostic value of baseline Quantitative Flow Ratio (QFR) in real-world patients remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of baseline QFR and its three-tier model-low, grey-zone, and high QFR-in patients with single-vessel intermediate stenosis.

METHODS: This retrospective study included 478 patients with QFR between 0.70 and 0.90 who underwent coronary angiography between May and June 2023. Patients were stratified into Low (0.70-0.74), Grey-Zone (0.75-0.85), and High (0.86-0.90) QFR groups. Dams And Rural Conflict: Evidence From Brazil’S Hydropower Expansion, Raphael Corbi, Chiara Falco, Luca J. Uberti

We estimate the impact of infrastructure investment on conflict using 163 hydroelectric dams in Brazil (2002–2022). Leveraging the staggered rollout of construction in a difference-in-differences framework, we find that dams trigger sharp, temporary surges in land invasions, water disputes, and homicides. These effects peak during construction and dissipate upon operation, suggesting they stem from the displacement process rather than the public good itself. Crucially, conflict is mediated by local institutions: violence occurs only where property rights are weak and displacement affects vulnerable smallholders. Our results demonstrate that without effective compensation, state-led modernization generates destabilizing redistributive shocks.

Mental health diagnoses have been linked to poor HIV treatment outcomes and poorer quality of life among people living with HIV (PLWH). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between sociodemographic and HIV-related characteristics, and common and serious mental health disorders among PLWH in South Carolina (SC). Data were obtained from the integrated system of statewide electronic health record (EHR) data in SC (2006–2019; N = 8,124). The purpose of this content analysis is to show how African Americans are represented in the novels selected for the Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice and Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice programs. Twenty-one graphic novels and one graphic story were used in this study. The primary source of data collection was analyzing the texts using the African American text features list. Findings indicated that when included, the representation of African Americans in the graphic novels was accurate and authentic. Conditional generative algorithms trained on simulations of historic wildfires may be used to effectively reconstruct the early-time progression of wildfires given satellite active fire measurements and terrain height data. When applied to real wildfires, generated fire progression estimates compare favorably to ground-truth high resolution infrared perimeters measured via aircraft, with the ability to gather additional information about model uncertainty from generated samples.
