Background: The ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) is increasingly used in clinical research and practice. This individual-participant meta-analysis aims to consolidate the prognostic accuracy of AASI in the general population and to derive an end point-based AASI risk threshold.

Methods: In 12 558 individuals enrolled in 14 population studies (48.8% women; mean age, 59.3 years), AASI was derived by regressing 24-hour diastolic on systolic blood pressure (mm Hg/mm Hg). Using Cox regression, the risk-carrying AASI threshold was established by examining stepwise increasing AASI levels and by determining the AASI level, yielding a 10-year risk similar to an office systolic pressure …

This study explores the emulsion Forcespinning (FS) approach for fabricating nanofibers with a hydrophilic phase encapsulated within a hydrophobic polymer matrix. Key factors influencing fiber production and morphology, including the concentration of the internal water phase and the presence of ionic and nonionic surfactants, were systematically investigated. Additionally, the centrifugal spinnability of the emulsions was assessed using environmentally controlled dripping-onto-substrate (DoS) rheometry, correlating the observed extensional flow behavior and emulsion extensibility with fiber spinnability. The nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. BACKGROUND: Culturally adapted diabetes self-management education (DSME) programs are effective in improving glycemic control and diabetes outcomes among minority populations, but data on program costs and cost-effectiveness are limited. This study aimed to assess the cost and cost-effectiveness of a culturally adapted DSME (adapted DSME) compared to a standard DSME model among Marshallese adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D).

METHODS: Retrospective cost and cost-effectiveness analyses (CEA) were conducted using data from the community-based trial, conducted between May 2015 and May 2018. Renin synthesis and release is the rate-limiting step of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) that controls fluid homeostasis. A major activator of the RAAS is a decrease in perfusion pressure within the kidneys, suggesting a link between renal mechanotransduction and renin. However, the identity of the mechanosensor(s) in the kidneys and their physiological significance to the RAAS remain unclear. We find that loss of the force-gated nonselective cation channel PIEZO2 in cells of renin lineage dysregulates the RAAS by elevating renin. We observe that PIEZO2 is expressed in renin-producing juxtaglomerular granular cells and is required for their calcium dynamics in vivo. …

Wide variation of responses to identical stimuli presented to genetically inbred mice suggests the hypothesis that stochastic non-genetic variation, such as in chromatin state or enhancer activity during neurodevelopment, can mediate such phenotypic differences. However, this hypothesis is largely untested since capturing pre-existing molecular states requires non-destructive, longitudinal recording. Therefore, we tested the potential of Calling Cards (CC) to record transient neuronal enhancer activity during postnatal development in mice, and thereby associate such non-genetic variation with a subsequent phenotypic presentation - degree of seizure response to the pro-convulsant pentylenetetrazol. Background Development of new treatments for gonorrhoea is a global public health priority. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of zoliflodacin versus ceftriaxone plus azithromycin in patients with uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea. Methods In this phase 3, multinational, randomised, controlled, open-label, non-inferiority clinical trial, participants aged 12 years and older with clinical suspicion of uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea were eligible for inclusion. The trial was done in 17 outpatient clinics in Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand, and the USA. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) with prion-like domains (PrLDs), such as FUS and TDP-43, condense into functional liquids, which can transform into pathological fibrils that underpin fatal neurodegenerative disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)/frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Here, we define short RNAs that prevent FUS fibrillization by promoting liquid phases and distinct short RNAs that prevent and reverse FUS condensation and fibrillization. These activities require interactions with multiple RNA-binding domains of FUS and are encoded by RNA sequence, length, and structure. Introduction: The ACHieve study assessed growth velocity, body proportionality, and clinical events in children with achondroplasia not receiving growth-promoting therapy.

Methods: ACHieve was a global, longitudinal, prospective, observational study. Children ≤8 years old with achondroplasia were enrolled and evaluated every 6 months for anthropometric parameters and clinical events.

Results: ACHieve enrolled 259 children in 15 countries, including 83 from China. Median follow-up was 21 months; median age of diagnosis was approximately 52 weeks in China and 2 weeks elsewhere. Growth parameters were similar regardless of region. Mean annualized growth velocity was 9.3 cm/year for males and 10.4 cm/year for females …

The fair use test for exemption for liability from copyright infringement was codified in the 1970s and has not been updated since—despite major technological changes in the interim. While three of the test’s four prongs are still useful when applied to short-form media that now dominates worldwide media consumption, the factor that considers the substantiality of the portion used relative to the total work is obsolete. The current dysfunctionality of this prong in social media settings is not the only reason it should be reassessed by courts and Congress. The prong and its analysis are a bit of a Frankenstein. …

Fluid Agency In Ai Systems: A Case For Functional Equivalence In Copyright, Patent, And Tort, Anirban Mukherjee, Hannah H. Chang

Modern artificial intelligence (AI) systems lack human-like consciousness or culpability, yet they exhibit fluid agency: behavior that is (i) stochastic (probabilistic and path-dependent), (ii) dynamic (co-evolving with user interaction), and (iii) adaptive (able to reorient across contexts). Fluid agency generates valuable outputs but collapses attribution, irreducibly entangling human and machine inputs. This fundamental unmappability fractures doctrines that assume traceable provenance—authorship, inventorship, and liability—yielding ownership gaps and moral “crumple zones.”

This Article argues that only functional equivalence stabilizes doctrine. Where provenance is indeterminate, legal frameworks must treat human and AI contributions as equivalent for allocating rights and responsibility—not as a claim …

This article examines fiscal sponsorship as a legal and financing structure for “truly independent” films—low-budget, non-commercial projects created by filmmakers without access to studio financing, tax incentives, or traditional investors. Neither standalone nonprofit incorporation nor purely for-profit entity structures adequately address the unique needs of such projects. After surveying the development of fiscal sponsorship as a means of funding projects that meet an exempt purpose, relevant IRS guidance, and current prevailing practices and organizational structures in independent film, the article contends that a Model C (“regranting”) fiscal sponsorship paired with a single-member limited liability company (SMLLC) offers the optimal balance …

This review examines the integration of open educational resources and open pedagogy in Business & Society (MG 313), where students engaged in both AI‑supported research and authorship to create the open textbook Undergraduate Perspectives on Responsible Business. The project combined open access materials, AI‑generated readable adaptations of scholarly articles, and a redesigned Position Paper assignment that invited students to contribute their work to a public Pressbooks publication. These activities strengthened student engagement, improved comprehension of responsible business perspectives, and expanded access to course materials. Cash management is fundamental to sustaining uninterrupted local service delivery and supporting credible budget execution. In West Java, municipal cash holdings exhibited fluctuations over 2019–2023, with only a limited number of districts/cities consistently maintaining cash holdings ratios above the operational sufficiency threshold. This study examines (i) the determinants of cash holdings Capacity and (ii) the relationship between cash holdings and expenditure effectiveness. Cash Holdings Capacity is classified as sufficient when the cash holdings ratio exceeds 100%, whereas Expenditure Effectiveness is classified as effective when the effectiveness ratio exceeds 90%. This study examines the transmission of geopolitical shocks to firm behavior. While previous research has primarily focused on the direct relation between shocks and firm behavior, we provide a more nuanced understanding by conceptualizing geopolitical shocks as disruptions that evolve through explicit and implicit channels to influence firm behavior. Based on a systematic review of 159 articles, we identify the key mechanisms that transmit the impacts of a geopolitical shock. Our findings reveal that geopolitical shocks manifest in institutions and their lower-level mechanisms, and such transmission is neither uniform nor random. Furthermore, we categorize firm behavior into distinct response modalities. …
