Thermoelectrochemical Synthesis Of Nanostructured Cupric Oxide (Cuo) Using Kmno4 As An Oxidant, Tony A. Hall, Michael Ibukun Kolawole, Janak Paudel

This research focuses on combining hydrothermal (hot water treatment) and electrochemical synthesis (EC) forming an advanced method termed ″thermoelectrochemical (TEC)” that introduces a rapid and controllable electrochemical strategy for synthesizing cupric oxide (CuO) nanostructures using potassium permanganate (KMnO4) as an oxidant under a constant electric potential at 75 °C for 3 h. The influence of applied voltage polarity on phase evolution, oxidation state, and morphology was systematically investigated. Under a positive bias of +Δ5 V, the copper substrate was fully oxidized into stoichiometric CuO, as confirmed by sharp XRD reflections, Raman-active Cu−O modes, and EDS spectra dominated by Cu−O composition. …

Background/Objectives: Unhealthy lifestyles lead to chronic low-grade inflammation, increasing the risk of colorectal cancer. Few studies in East Asia have examined the association between the dietary inflammation potential and colorectal cancer incidence. Therefore, we aimed to investigate this association further in the Japanese population. Methods: This study included 38,807 men aged 45–74 years who participated in the Japan Public Health Center-based prospective study (JPHC Study). The energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII) was derived from a food frequency questionnaire. Coastal communities, like Tampa Bay, face growing compound hazards as tidal flooding and extreme temperatures increasingly co-occur. Tidal flooding is shallow, recurring inundation during routine king tides and intensifies in frequency and extent with sea level rise. In some instances, its cumulative impact on infrastructure and daily life can amount to that of a major hurricane over time (Moftakhari et al., 2018).

Early-onset atopic dermatitis (AD) affects approximately 10-20% of children in the United States, and emerging evidence suggests potential links between early immune dysregulation and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Limited research has examined whether early AD serves as a specific risk factor for later ASD diagnosis. Guided by life course theory, the purpose of this study was to examine whether AD diagnosed within the first two years of life predicts later diagnosis of ASD among U.S. children younger than five years. This dissertation investigated the phenomenon of a significant, acute, externally-driven crisis event on university resilience at four-year, tuition-driven, public and private higher education institutions in the United States of America. The study primarily considered the resilience indicators of university undergraduate enrollment and financial stability through the crisis context of COVID-19. The dissatisfaction with democratic processes and the low participation rates we see trending in cities around the world, have inspired practitioners to experiment with new democratic practices. Scholars of participatory democracy have argued that when people participate in one democratic activity, they are more likely to engage in other activities. Therefore, this project clarifies the expectations set for a specific type of process, called Participatory Budgeting (PB). Revisiting Collective Efficacy: Insights From Cognitive Interviews And Experimental Surveys, Tori Kay Olson

This three-part study revisits the collective efficacy scale developed by Sampson and colleagues in the 1990s to see if the scale needs updating. Defined as community cohesion and social control, collective efficacy is often used in community research to explain crime rates. The first phase uses cognitive interviews to understand how survey respondents interpret the original collective efficacy survey. The interview data then helps create new versions of the ten questions in the second phase. In the third phase, ChatGPT generates a revised version of the collective efficacy scale. BACKGROUND: Quantitative coronary CT angiography plaque analysis (QCCTA) is a novel tool for atherosclerosis detection.

OBJECTIVES: The authors examined utilization of a health plan offering of QCCTA to diabetic members and the impact of utilization on health plan costs.

METHODS: Diabetic health plan members ≥40 years without prior myocardial infarction were offered QCCTA as a pilot benefit. Benefit utilizers were compared to eligible nonutilizers for incident cardiovascular episodes of care post-notification of eligibility.

RESULTS: Over 14 months, 2,064 of 38,079 health plan members were identified as eligible. Utilizers (19.1%) were predominantly White (76.4%) and female (72.6%) residing in communities with …

The enactment of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act in July 2025 represents a pivotal shift in the digital asset landscape, providing a federal framework for payment stablecoins and addressing critical issues of transparency and reserve backing. However, this Article argues that the GENIUS Act addresses only a subset of the systemic inefficiencies hindering the transition of stablecoins from speculative instruments to institutional-grade financial tools. Two case studies involving motorcycle-accident negligence and administrative law in the context of drone regulation violations explore the transformative potential of generative AI in legal practice. Four AI engines—DeepSeek, Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok—were asked to analyze transcripts of client interviews by identifying legal claims and assessing their strengths and weaknesses.

The results demonstrate that current AI technology effectively processes natural-language client interviews, identifies viable legal theories, and assesses claim strengths and weaknesses in both tort and administrative law contexts. United Nations Special Rapporteurs assess national compliance with international human rights obligations, including educational rights articulated in treaties such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights ("ICESCR"). These evaluations typically involve treaty-bound states with explicit international commitments. However, the applicability of such assessments is less straightforward in non-ratifying federal states, such as the US, which rely on diverse state-level constitutional provisions rather than federal treaty obligations.

Objectives: Post activation potentiation (PAP) is the phenomenon where muscle force-generating capacity during explosive activities increases after sustained activation. Alternatively, fatigue refers to the decrease in muscle force-generating capacity following sustained activation. The level to which muscles are fatigued or potentiated may influence whether performance is enhanced or decreased. While PAP has been well-documented in able-bodied athletes, few studies have examined PAP in athletes with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Therefore the objective of this study was to examine the influence of warmup protocol intensity on workload production during a 15-second handcycling sprinting task in athletes with SCI.

Encounters between competitive individuals or groups are common in social animals and can involve costly aggression; thus, animals often employ strategies to minimize direct conflict. However, research on whether and how animals adjust their group spatial structure when they encounter or spatially co-occur with a different group remains limited. We investigated how non-territorial units in feral horse multilevel societies manage spatial encounters with neighbouring units. We observed 25 reproductive units in northern Portugal, using drones, and employed statistical analyses to quantify spatial dynamics. We found that horses actively adjusted their spatial formations depending on the proximity of other units. Units …

Tractography is a key component of efforts to map brain connectivity. As a rapidly evolving field of neuroscience, current tractography methods are diverse, often varying across research laboratories and different software pipelines. Therefore, it suffers from a lack of standardization, leading to inconsistencies in results, which can limit reproducibility and affect the robustness needed for research and clinical applications of these methods. Sigformer: An Attention-Based Framework For Robust Single-Sample Mutational Signature Decomposition

Somatic mutational signatures imprint the history of exogenous exposures and endogenous processes on the genome, offering critical insights into pathologic etiology and disease risk. However, accurate signature decomposition at the single-sample level is still challenging when mutation burden is low, sampling noise is high, and candidate catalogs are large and redundant. Here, we present SigFormer, a set-conditioned transformer framework designed to facilitate robust somatic mutation analysis without reliance on large cohorts. By leveraging a cross-attention mechanism between customized reference input and sample mutation profile, SigFormer improves exposure recovery and detection accuracy compared with likelihood-driven refitting (MuSiCal) with the largest performance …

Context: Current practice guidelines recommend considering a diagnosis of maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) in patients with diabetes with an affected parent but without typical features of type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Objective: To test if these criteria apply to a real-world cohort of racially/ethnically diverse children with diabetes.

Methods: We performed a retrospective case review of electronic medical records of youth diagnosed with MODY in a large academic pediatric hospital in Southwestern United States. Cases were ascertained based on the identification of a molecular diagnosis of MODY.
