Vector embeddings make complicated data extracted from networks, words and images, more amendable to data science applications. At the present time, the Veronese-Whitney (VW) matrix embedding of the real projective space is the state of the art for making inference about digital images from an uncalibrated camera, such as a cell phone or security camera. In this work we consider vector embeddings for the projective shape data and in particular determine the minimum dimension isometric (distance-preserving or Nash) vector embedding for a projective space. This paper proposes and analyzes a fully discrete semi-implicit unconditionally energy stable numerical scheme to solve the Cahn-Hilliard Magnetohydrodynamics (Cahn-Hilliard-MHD) model with variable density. The unconditional energy stability and optimal L2 error estimates are established for the fully discrete scheme. Major challenges in error estimation arise from the variable density, the strong nonlinearities, and the multi-physics coupling of the model. Under the mathematical induction framework, the Ritz quasi-projection and the Stokes quasi-projection, proposed in [SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 61(3):1218-1245, 2023], are utilized to avoid the gradient terms of the projection errors. The H−1 superconvergence error estimates of Ritz …

Background: Heavily calcified or destroyed mitral annulus present significant technical challenges for conventional valve replacement, often requiring alternative surgical strategies. Aim: To evaluate the safety, efficacy, operative outcomes, and the competency of valved conduit in patients with heavily calcified or destroyed mitral valve annulus. Methods: Fifteen patients (mean age 58.8±8.21 years, 53.3% female) underwent valved conduit mitral valve replacement at the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, National Heart Institute, General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes (GOTHI), Egypt. Preoperatively, 80% presented in NYHA class III-IV with mean ejection fraction of 37.6±7.65% and pulmonary artery pressure of 50.6±11.39 mmHg. Bioprosthetic valves were used …

Background Caesarean section (CS) rates are rising globally, with Egypt reporting one of the highest rates. A potential complication of CS is the development of a uterine scar defect, or niche, which may be associated with abnormal bleeding, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. The technique of uterine closure may play a significant role in the prevention of niche formation. This dissertation chronicles the pursuit of an answer to the following question: In what ways have Southern Baptist Conventions (SBC) seminaries incorporated leadership studies into the curricula of their Master of Divinity (M.Div.) programs? This dissertation is a qualitative, multi-site case study that utilized a descriptive method of research. The research also utilized a qualitative interview that asked seminary administrators about their understanding of leadership studies and the place of those studies in the leadership courses that each seminary provided. One administrator from each of the six SBC seminaries was interviewed for this research. Content analysis was used to discover …

This study examined Filipino corporate trainers’ views on the effectiveness of gamification in onsite and online training. Using Clark and Braun’s thematic analysis, eight trainers shared their insights into its impact on engagement, motivation, and reinforcement. Results showed gamification can boost participation and structure learning, but its success depends on deliberate integration of game elements and digital tools. This varied slightly between modalities, especially when involving inductive and deductive assessments. Trainers emphasized the importance of incorporating interactive activities, providing feedback, enhancing competition, and offering rewards to strengthen engagement. Insurers have traditionally been denied “party in interest” status under the Bankruptcy Code due to the longstanding insurance neutrality doctrine. The insurance neutrality doctrine prevents insurers from challenging a chapter 11 bankruptcy plan as a section 1109(b) “party in interest” if the plan does not increase the insurance company’s liability from pre-bankruptcy levels. If none of their rights or obligations were impacted by the plan, insurance companies were previously left without a means to challenge a proposed reorganization plan. Companies that have manufactured, processed, or sold per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”), also known as “forever chemicals,” face mounting financial pressure as the number of claims against them skyrocket. With billions of dollars already allocated to settlements and new lawsuits continuously filed, liable corporations may utilize the Texas Two-Step to minimize financial risk. The maneuver would enable solvent companies to isolate PFAS liability and discard it into bankruptcy, potentially delaying and capping payouts for claimants in the process. We will be using the principles behind how a record player turns physical grooves into electrical signals to develop a device that can be used to measure the surface of tires. The device will be capable of measuring the surface roughness of rubber samples from both new and worn tires, in order to compare the differences between them. This project studies Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for a car dealership located in Seguin, Texas. The building construction and architectural drawings were provided by EPIC Engineering Group. Comprehensive load calculations were done on the building in order to calculate necessary airflows throughout the building. Three possible HVAC design solutions were compared: Rooftop Units (RTUs), rooftop units paired with Variable Air Volume (VAV) Terminals with electric reheat, and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) paired with a Dedicated Outdoor Air Unit (DOAS). Human exploration of Mars is constrained by harsh environmental conditions and the prohibitive cost of transporting materials from Earth. Long-term sustainability requires the local production of mechanical and structural components using resources available on Mars, thereby minimizing payload mass. This project investigates polymer–regolith composites derived from atmospheric CO₂ and mineral-rich regolith as a pathway toward in-situ manufacturing. These composites, when compatible with additive manufacturing, could replace imported plastics, enable on-demand fabrication, and support closed-loop recycling systems. This project will study the variables that impact disposition status of non-fatal shooting cases in the city of Akron. This research project will be conducted through temporal and spatial analysis of the information gathered from the Akron Police Department. This analysis will identify common factors and patterns throughout the non-fatal shooting cases. This will then follow with in depth research of intelligence led policing articles that provide relevant solutions. The final steps will be identifying and adapting solutions to fit the needs of the Akron Police Department. The final product will include maps, police products and data visualization through Excel.

The International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) is the premier collegiate high power rocketry competition in the world hosted by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA). The Akronauts Rocket Design team has been competing in IREC since 2015 and have won several awards. The main goal of IREC is to launch a rocket to a specified altitude of 10k, 30k, or 45k ft while carrying a payload and successfully recover with little to no damage.

This Honors Project aims to improve window energy efficiency using the thermoplastic polymer PVME (polyvinyl methyl ether), which displays temperature-dependent transparency that can be adjusted by mixing it with water and salt to reduce heat transfer through a window. The objective is to determine the optimal PVME water-salt ratios for placement inside a windowpane, evaluate energy savings compared to a traditional argon-filled window, and compare estimated costs. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are associated with significant physical, mental, and social burdens that impact patients’ quality of life (Franssen et al., 2018). Pulmonary function testing (PFT) is an essential diagnostic test for identifying and managing pulmonary conditions. INTRODUCTION: The incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Down syndrome (DS) exceeds 90%. Approximately 50% of people with DS have congenital heart disease (CHD). Having CHD increases risk for early-onset AD in populations without DS, but it is unclear if CHD influences AD in DS. METHODS: Data from the Alzheimer Biomarker Consortium-Down Syndrome (ABC-DS) were used. Participants with CHD (n = 82, mean age = 39.9 ± 8.5 years, 97.6% White race) were age- and sex-matched to participants without CHD (n = 82, mean age = 40.5 ± 8.1 years, 98.8% White race). Introduction: Plasma phosphorylated tau (p-tau)217 levels and apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 genotype are used for prodromal identification of individuals at high risk for dementia. We used baseline samples from cognitively normal subjects in the Risk Reduction for Alzheimer's Disease (rrAD) clinical trial (NCT02913664) to investigate the relationship between these two markers in older adults with additional vascular risk factors. Methods: We measured APOE genotype, plasma p-tau217, and standard neuroimaging metrics in 400 rrAD participants, aged 60 to 84 years, with sedentary lifestyle, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia. Background: Stroke, whether or not accompanied by concurrent COVID-19 infection, has been associated with varying acute care outcomes, with patients who are COVID-19 positive typically faring worse. This study aims to explore the functional outcomes of patients with stroke —with and without simultaneous COVID-19 infection—who survived their acute care stay and progressed to acute inpatient rehabilitation (IRF). Objective: Cerebral ischemia remains a major cause of disability, and the contribution of the hyperacute immune response is increasingly recognized. The aim of this study was to investigate the local inflammatory response in the affected brain of stroke patients with large vessel occlusion during the hyperacute phase of stroke. Methods: To decipher the role of myeloid immune cells in stroke-induced inflammation, we performed an unsupervised multiomics analysis of innate immune pathways in ischemic blood obtained directly from the occluded middle cerebral artery in 54 patients undergoing mechanical recanalization. Long-read single-cell RNA sequencing provides an opportunity to understand human health and disease at a level difficult to resolve with bulk or short-read methods. This approach enables isoform-level investigation of cellular diversity and disease mechanisms and definition of cell-types, rather than using genes alone. Using a modified, microfluidic-free PIPseq workflow and computational pipeline adapted for Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing, we generated the largest long-read single-cell dataset of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from a single donor to date, the first with sufficient cell numbers to detect megakaryocytes. Cortical thinning and atrophy are hallmarks of brain aging that have been characterized using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Brain aging involves many neuroanatomic features whose effects on brain structure remain unexplored. To address this challenge, we trained interpretable deep neural networks (DNNs) to estimate brain age (BA) from T1-weighted (T1w) MRI. By identifying MRI features unapparent to humans, DNNs can find aging-related structural alterations above and beyond cortical thickness and atrophy. Introduction The ATLAS trial was a prospective, multicenter, single-arm, investigational device exemption (IDE) study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Neuroform Atlas Stent System for the treatment of widenecked bifurcation aneurysms. This analysis presents the 36-month follow-up data for the anterior and posterior cohorts. Methods Of the 182patients in the IDE anterior cohort, 146 consented to participate in the post-approval study (PAS) and, of the 116patients in the IDE posterior cohort, 101 consented to participate in the PAS. This Article undermines two myths in American legal history: first, that the law’s circle of moral concern has steadily expanded; and second, that legal protections have always centered on human persons. As to the first, the law contains multiple, shifting circles of moral concern, expanding along some dimensions and contracting along others. As to the second, U.S. law and the English common law on which it was based have long attributed moral status to nonhuman beings and inanimate objects.

A principal justification for textualism is the constraint hypothesis. Conservative Justices and leading textualist scholars contend that—in stark contrast to reliance on legislative history—focus on the ordinary meaning of enacted text leaves little room for the Justices to be policy-oriented or ideological in their interpretations. This Article represents the first systematic study probing the validity of the constraint hypothesis, one that employs both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Since the modern death penalty era, this country’s six execution methods have become crueler over time. This article details the execution procedures adopted across death penalty states up to the end of 2025, analyzing their societal and cultural underpinnings and explaining how they were implemented, including their shared flaws, unscientific origins and protocols, and reliance on untrained, unqualified, or unknown executioners. Although the Fourth Amendment protects against “unreasonable searches and seizures,” this right is not enjoyed by all people equally. Supreme Court jurisprudence has curtailed the Fourth Amendment privacy rights of individuals under probation or parole supervision. In this line of cases, the Court concluded that the government’s interest in monitoring supervisees, reducing recidivism, and promoting public safety outweighed their reasonable expectation of privacy.

This paper develops four case studies about how states have harmonized or separated their statutory interpretation regimes and their contract interpretation regimes. After exploring the choices of Texas, Alaska, New York, and Alabama—all of which take different approaches to their lumping or splitting—the paper seeks to make state courts more aware of what their options are; to help states think about whether their commitments to formalism or contextualism make sense to apply in both domains; and to help them evaluate their meta-choices about whether to bring their interpretive regimes closer together or further apart.

For victims of abuse, safety means hiding. Not just hiding themselves, but also their contact details, their address, their workplace, their roommates, and any other information that could enable their abuser to target them. Yet today, no number of name changes and relocations can prevent data brokers from sharing a victim’s personal information online. Thanks to brokers, abusers can find what they need with a single search, a few clicks, and a few dollars. For many victims, then, the best hope for safety lies in obscurity—that is, making themselves and their information harder to find.
