Background: Prior research confirms that social support promotes resilience among medical patients with chronic illness. Beyond emotional benefits, research has increasingly shown the importance of social support on physical health outcomes. Therefore, identifying and evaluating interventions that increase social support among medical patients with chronic conditions is a priority for healthcare. Methods: This meta-analysis summarized data from 39,493 medical patients across 14 non-randomized trials that had been identified by a prior review of the survival benefits of social support interventions. Results: Across four studies reporting hazard ratio data, the results failed to reach statistical significance (HR = 2.10, 95% CI …

Background: A subset of Alzheimer's disease patients progresses much more rapidly than average. These rapid progressors exhibit accelerated cognitive and functional decline. Potential differences in Alzheimer's biomarkers for rapid progressors and their responses to disease-modifying treatments remain poorly understood, with previous clinical trials and studies producing limited biomarker data and inconsistent results.

Objectives: Examine differences in rapid progressor versus non-rapid progressor outcomes in two AD treatment trials (bapineuzumab and semagacestat) and investigate cognitive and biomarker progression in the placebo groups.

Bounded count data are commonly encountered in environmental studies. This paper examines two environmental applications illustrating their relevance. The first investigates the effect of winter malnutrition on mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) fawn mortality. The second application analyzes public perceptions of environmental issues using data from the Eurobarometer 95.1 survey (March–April 2021), which includes a question rating the perceived severity of climate change on a scale from 1 to 10. Together, these studies demonstrate the need for flexible bounded count models in environmental research. Wearable sensors generate continuous physiological and behavioral data at a population scale, yet wellness prediction remains limited by noisy measurements, irregular sampling, and subjective outcomes. We introduce HybridSense, a unified framework that integrates raw wearable signals and their statistical descriptors with large language model–based reasoning to produce accurate and interpretable estimates of stress, fatigue, readiness, and sleep quality. Using the PMData dataset, minute-level heart rate and activity logs are transformed into daily statistical features, whose relevance is ranked using a Random Forest model. Dapagliflozin (DPG), an anti-diabetic drug, has gained attention for its renal protective effects through multiple molecular pathways, yet its impact on mitophagy in cisplatin (CIS) nephrotoxicity remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the impact of DPG against CIS-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, targeting mainly PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy and inflammatory/apoptotic pathways. Male Sprague Dawley rats received DPG (10 mg/kg; p.o) daily for 14 consecutive days and AKI was induced by a single injection of CIS (7 mg/kg; i.p) on day 10. Groundwater is a critical resource in Illah, Delta State, where surface water is unreliable. This study aims to evaluate groundwater potential and aquifer properties using geoelectric methods, with a particular focus on Dar-Zarrouk parameters. Thirteen Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) surveys were conducted using the Schlumberger array. Derived parameters, including resistivity, thickness, and Dar-Zarrouk indices, were analysed to characterise the aquifers’ hydraulic properties. Four to five geoelectric layers underlie the study area. Aquifer resistivity ranged from 124–2499 Ω·m, thickness from 3.4–57.9 m, and transmissivity from 27.54–468.99 m²/day. This study investigates the use of scaffolded weekly assessments with individual feedback in promoting deep learning and managing workload among engineering students in online education. The research focuses on how these assessment strategies shape students’ learning approaches and workload distribution. The study involved the implementation of weekly assessments aligned with intended learning outcomes, complemented by personalized feedback. Data collection comprised student surveys and qualitative feedback to assess the impact on learning approaches and workload management.
