Peripheral arterial disease progression to critical limb ischemia remains a significant burden in the aged, necessitating revascularization. Therapies to enhance neovascularization, such as angiogenesis or arteriogenesis, may provide an option for patients not suitable for surgery. The thrombospondins (TSPs) are secreted matricellular glycoproteins, with TSP-1, TSP-2, and TSP-5 implicated in neovascularization. Currently, there is little data regarding the effects of TSP-2, TSP-5, sex, and aging on angiogenesis and arteriogenesis. Flare guns are pyrotechnic devices capable of causing serious injury due to high-temperature combustion and projectile discharge. Though intended for signaling in maritime or wilderness settings, improper use can result in trauma patterns distinct from those seen with typical burns or fireworks. Despite their severity, flare gun injuries remain underreported and poorly characterized. We conducted a scoping review of PubMed, Scopus, and Ovid to identify 12 case reports involving 13 patients, and reviewed US National Electronic Injury Surveillance System records from 2015 to 2024, identifying 18 flare gun-specific injuries for a combined total of 31 injuries. INTRODUCTION: Guillain-Barré syndrome can manifest with progressive paralysis, requiring careful monitoring and treatment with steroids or intravenous (IV) immunoglobin. While this disease can be devastating and require intensive care unit level of care, there are few incidences of relapses.

CASE REPORT: A 67-year-old man with a past medical history of Miller Fisher syndrome variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome, with complete recovery, presented to the emergency department (ED) with ataxia, ophthalmoplegia, dysphonia, and ambulatory dysfunction. From property disputes in ancient Sumer to complex corporate conflicts in modern America, mediation has long served as a vital tool for resolving disputes without resorting to formal adjudication. Defined as “a process in which an impartial third party helps others resolve a dispute or plan a transaction,” mediation has been used to settle disputes since as early as 4500-1900 B.C.E. Over millennia, mediation has evolved in response to cultural, legal, and technological shifts, reflecting the diverse values and priorities of the societies that employed it.

The United States (U.S.) Armed Forces is composed of seven military branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Space Force. Each military branch has an alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) program. These programs use a collection of techniques, generally informal and collaborative in nature, to resolve disputes as a substitute for litigation. The characteristics of ADR proceedings tend to produce quicker, less expensive outcomes compared to litigation. This very reason is why Congress enacted the Administrative Dispute Resolution Act (“ADRA”) of 1996, directing federal agencies to establish ADR policies and programs.

The Global Financial Crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic were two major shocks to the world economy in the 21st century. In this study, we analyze the patterns of recessions and recoveries of 101 advanced and developing economies. We identify the turning points of recessions and expansions between 1990 and 2022, and perform cross-country analysis of domestic and external drivers of economic recovery. In addition to the standard independent variables, we include institutional development, political stability, the extent of democracy, and trade restrictions indexes, and explore their roles in explaining recessions and recovery patterns.
