Introduction:

A growing body of literature suggests a role for neuroinflammation in retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death in glaucoma. For instance, deficiency of three proinflammatory cytokines, complement component 1, subcomponent q (C1q), interleukin 1 alpha (Il1a), and tumor necrosis factor (Tnf), resulted in significant protection of RGCs after glaucoma-relevant insults. While TNF and C1Q have been extensively investigated in glaucoma-relevant model systems, the role of IL1A in RGCs is not well defined.

The collection contains the following issues: January 12-26, 1987; September 15-December 22, 1987; January 5, 1988; February 2, 1988; March 8-May 19, 1988; May 26-September 22, 1988.  Numbering was re-started at Volume 1 on September 15, 1987 and the newspaper was re-named "The Advocate" in early 1988.

There are ~ 60 clustered protocadherin (cPcdh) isoforms expressed from three gene clusters (Pcdha, Pcdhb, Pcdhg) arrayed in tandem across nearly 1 Mb in mammals. cPcdhs are homophilic cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) critical for a host of neural developmental functions consistent with a role in cell-cell recognition. Indeed, isoforms make recognition modules in combination to generate recognition diversity far exceeding the ~ 60 individual CAMs. However, there is also growing evidence for specialized functions for specific isoforms, particularly the C-type isoforms found at the 3' ends of the Pcdha cluster (αC1 and αC2) and at the 3' end of the …

Psychiatric disorders display high levels of comorbidity and genetic overlap, challenging current diagnostic boundaries. For disorders for which diagnostic separation has been most debated, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, genomic methods have revealed that the majority of genetic signal is shared. While over a hundred pleiotropic loci have been identified by recent cross-disorder analyses, the full scope of shared and disorder-specific genetic influences remains poorly defined. Here we addressed this gap by triangulating across a suite of cutting-edge statistical and functional genomic analyses applied to 14 childhood- and adult-onset psychiatric disorders (1,056,201 cases). Knowledge graphs (KGs) are an established paradigm for integrating heterogeneous data and representing knowledge. As such, there are many different methodologies for producing KGs, which span notions of expressivity, and are tailored for different use-cases and domains. Now, as neurosymbolic methods rise in prominence, it is important to understand how the development of KGs according to these methodologies impact downstream tasks, such as link prediction using KG embeddings (KGEs). In this article, we examine how various perturbations of graph structures impact downstream tasks. Evolutionary rescue allows populations to adapt and persist despite severe environmental change. While well studied under density-independent conditions, the role of density dependence, including competition, remains unclear. Theoretical models offer conflicting predictions, with density dependence either increasing extinction risk or enhancing adaptation. We empirically tested how density dependence influences evolutionary rescue by exposing experimental populations to a stressful environment for six generations under density-dependent or independent conditions, with populations where either evolution was possible or was prevented by replacing individuals each generation. Density dependence suppressed population size and increased extinction risk, whereas density independence enabled rapid growth, especially in genetically …

Background: Patient adherence to pre- and post-procedure instructions is essential to ensuring optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction in cosmetic dermatology. However, patients frequently overlook or misunderstand written instructions, leading to suboptimal preparation and recovery experiences.

Project Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement initiative was to evaluate whether the implementation of short, accessible video-based instructions could improve patient understanding, adherence, and satisfaction compared to standard written instructions alone.

Methods: The project was conducted in a high-volume cosmetic dermatology practice in the Northeastern United States. A HIPAA-compliant platform using a video-based educational intervention was developed and implemented to supplement or replace …

This thesis examines the significance of the speculative element of time travel in young adult graphic novels. The graphic novel format and its visual elements facilitate understanding of a fractured identity resulting from trauma. The speculative work of time travel allows consideration of “what-ifs.” This thesis focuses on three graphic novels, Displacement by Kiku Hughes, Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughn, and Orange by Ichigo Takano, in order to explore how time travel serves as a metaphor for the processing of trauma. These young adult graphic novels explore how someone’s relationship to time changes in the wake of traumatic events. …

Findings: This review reveals that Agile and Lean frameworks dramatically improve public financial management by improving fiscal accountability, budgeting efficiency, and service delivery. Drawing on 49 studies published between 2010 and 2025, the majority from emerging economies with selected comparative OECD cases, budgeting and procurement reforms emerged as the dominant sectors analysed. Agile’s iterative and adaptive approach allows governments to make real-time adjustments to budgets, enhancing the economy’s response to economic developments and crises. They focus on reducing waste and financial planning to ensure that public funds are allocated efficiently and effectively. Similarly, Rwanda and Nigeria demonstrate the benefits of …

The United States food supply chain is one of the most complex and interconnected systems in the world, spanning agricultural production, processing, transportation, storage, and retail distribution. While this complexity enables efficiency and scale, it also increases vulnerability to disruptions caused by climate change, labor shortages, geopolitical shocks, transportation failures, cyber threats, and public health crises.
