Despite ongoing eradication efforts, female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C) remains a major public health and human rights concern in Ethiopia. This quantitative study was conducted to examine how circumciser type (traditional cutter, birth attendant, or health professional) influences FGM/C prevalence and severity among girls ages 0–14, considering the moderating effects of residence and mothers’ FGM status, while controlling for age and income. Guided by the social ecological model and using 2016 E Ethiopian Demographic Health Surveys data, analysis indicates a significant association between circumciser type and FGM/C type (χ² (2, N = 1,553) = 6.86, p = .032), which …

Wildfires represent a growing threat to property and human life due to climate change and development into higher exposure areas. These risks are particularly salient in the Arctic and subarctic where changes are occurring quickly. This paper uses a hedonic model of home sale prices in Alaska to estimate individuals’ willingness to pay to avoid wildfire exposure. A hedonic housing price analysis shows that the homes most exposed to wildfire actually sell at a premium compared to those homes that are least exposed. However, this premium disappears once proximity to public firefighting infrastructure is accounted for, suggesting that the premium …

We report the synthesis of high-quality 2H-TaS₂ nanowires via a controlled two-step conversion process from TaS₃ precursors, achieving robust superconductivity with a transition temperature T c ≈ 3.6K, which is significantly higher than bulk 2H-TaS₂ (T c ≈ 0.8K). Structural and compositional analyses confirm phase purity and preserved one-dimensional morphology, while magneto transport measurements reveal an enhanced upper critical field μ 0 H c2 (2K)≈5 T, far exceeding the bulk value (_μ0H_c2 (0)≈1.17T), attributed to dimensional confinement and suppression of charge-density wave order. BACKGROUND: Kratom use is rising, increasing the need for safety and tolerability studies of high-quality and well-characterized kratom products in humans. Kratom's risk-benefit ratio, recommended dose, treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs), abuse potential, and withdrawal require evaluation. Thus, the safety and tolerability of 4 escalating single and 15 daily dried kratom leaf powder doses in human volunteers were evaluated over 47 days in the largest controlled kratom-administration study to date.

This article critically examines the literature on global aid governance through a feminist lens, focusing on three key areas: epistemic power, organisational depoliticisation, and the ethics of accountability. The review reveals that the coloniality of knowledge in global aid governance creates epistemic hierarchies grounded in claims of objectivity and efficiency, thereby marginalising local voices. Meanwhile, processes such as NGO-isation and professionalisation have transformed activism into administrative compliance. However, within these structures, reflective agency can still emerge through negotiated autonomy and the politics of translation, allowing feminist organisations to maintain their political significance. However, limited research exists on juvenile justice professionals’ perceptions of program success. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore these professionals’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of juvenile reentry programs in reducing recidivism. Guided by Bandura’s social learning theory, the study examined how observation and modeling influence youth behavior during reentry. This staff education initiative was designed for nursing personnel at an adult mental health clinic, aiming to address inconsistencies and inadequacies in suicide risk screening practices among health care providers. Despite regular patient interactions, staff frequently lack the necessary knowledge, confidence, and standardized tools to identify individuals at risk for suicide, leading to missed opportunities for early intervention. INTRODUCTION: As the population ages, L4-L5 degenerative spondylolisthesis is increasingly common. Posterolateral fusion was long standard; interbody cages are widely used for perceived higher fusion rates.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Does adding an interbody cage to posterolateral fusion improve outcomes or reduce complications in elderly patients with grade I spondylolisthesis and severe stenosis?

MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively studied 319 adults aged 60-85 who underwent single-level L4-L5 fusion (2011-2018) after failed conservative care. The research problem addressed in this basic qualitative study was the inconsistent use and implementation of teacher read-alouds among fourth- and fifth-grade teachers in an urban district. Guided by Clark and Peterson’s cognitive process teacher model, Rumelhart’s schema theory, and Gough and Tunmer’s simple view of reading, the purpose of this project study was to explore teachers’ experiences and perceptions regarding their use of read-alouds as part of their regular reading instruction.
