Kibbutz Megiddo (Al-Lajjun): Remains From The Hellenistic–Mamluk Periods / קיבוץ מגידו (א־לג'ון): שרידים מהתקופות ההלניסטית עד הממלוכית, Yotam Tepper, Edna J. Stern

Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel

The excavation at Kibbutz Megiddo revealed eight strata dating to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Abbasid, Crusader and Mamluk periods, as well as a modern stratum. The remains indicate an almost continuous sequence of settlement at the site from the third century BCE to the present. For the first time, remains dated to the Hellenistic, Early, Middle and Late Islamic periods are documented in the Legio-Megiddo region. The Roman finds likely represent a settlement in the vicinity of the Roman legion base and the Jewish village of Kefar ‘Othnay. Abstract: The meaning of citizenship in Malaysia is a tale as old as the country itself—a thorny triangular relationship between the state; the Bumiputera majority of Malay and indigenous natives; and the non-Bumiputeras minority of Chinese and Indians who primarily migrated when the region was under British colonial rule and influence. In the present, Bumiputeras enjoy a constitutionally stipulated special status—a distinction that bestows many privileges and preferential treatment in all facets of life, from commerce to education, homeownership to government employment, that is off-limits to non-Bumiputeras. Abstract: Despite Taiwan’s significant contributions to the global artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, its role remains underexamined in international AI governance discourse. This Article addresses this gap by analyzing Taiwan’s emerging AI regulatory framework, with particular emphasis on the Draft Basic Law on Artificial Intelligence (the “Draft AI Law”). Situating Taiwan’s approach within the broader global regulatory landscape, the Article compares the Draft AI Law with key international models, including the European Union’s AI Act and the United States’ NIST AI Risk Management Framework, while also drawing on regulatory developments in Japan and South Korea. Abstract: The development of China’s anti-sexual harassment laws and policies over the past few decades has raised the hopes of many. However, the sheer volume of regulations can easily create the false impression that the Chinese legal system is effectively dealing with workplace sexual harassment. Statistics show that the number of lawsuits filed in Chinese courts remains trivial, even though workplace sexual harassment continues to be widespread. Perception Of Prosodic Speech Patterns Of Autistic Individuals, Rebecca Lunt

The purpose of this study was to determine the perception that neurotypical individuals have of autistic individuals’ speech, including their speech prosody. Speech samples were collected from four neurotypical and four autistic young adults as they answered interview questions. Then, 50 neurotypical listeners (28 female, 22 male) were recruited to listen to the speech samples and rate the speech on visual analogy scales on their likeability and ability to communicate. Participants were told prior to listening to the speech samples whether or not the speaker had autism; however, there were both deceptive and truthful listening conditions, with some autistic speakers …

Polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases, caused by a CAG repeat expansion encoding a glutamine tract in nine distinct proteins, present a complex molecular puzzle in which each piece contributes to neurodegeneration. While each of the causative proteins has a distinct function, the downstream consequences of polyQ toxicity are often similar, including protein accumulation, transcriptional dysregulation, somatic CAG repeat instability, disrupted energy homeostasis, compromised synaptic function, and selective neuronal death. This review summarizes emerging insights into how proteins with an expanded polyQ tract disrupt distinct cellular functions, and we examine a multitude of discoveries that are inspiring and reshaping novel therapeutic strategies.
