Data-Driven Prediction Of Superconducting Critical Temperature: A Linear And Regularized Linear Modeling Approach, Dipok Deb Jan 2026

Data-Driven Prediction Of Superconducting Critical Temperature: A Linear And Regularized Linear Modeling Approach, Dipok Deb

Data Science and Data Mining

This study adopts a data-driven approach to estimate the critical temperature of superconducting materials using linear machine learning models. A comprehensive dataset derived from material physico-chemical properties was analyzed after systematic preprocessing and standardization. Three linear modeling strategies—Linear Regression, Ridge Regression, and Linear Regression with Subset Selection—were developed and evaluated using standard regression performance metrics. The findings demonstrate that both basic and regularized linear models can effectively capture the relationship between material features and superconducting behavior, offering robust and interpretable predictions. While feature selection enhances model transparency, it comes with a modest reduction in predictive capability. Overall, this work emphasizes …

A Comparative Performance Study Of Webp Compression In A Cryptographic–Steganographic Pipeline For Secure E-Commerce Transactions, Esther Abeson Nasara, Moses Timothy, Agushaka J. Ovre, Taofeekat Tosin Salau-Ibrahim

Al-Bahir

The expeditious growth of electronic commerce (e-commerce) fundamentally transformed business operations and consumer behavior by enabling businesses to reach a global market, streamline supply chains, and provide personalized shopping experiences. This shift necessitated reliable security measures to protect sensitive information during online transactions. However, existing approaches that combined encryption, steganography, and conventional compression techniques such as DCT and autoencoders were limited in preserving image quality and computational efficiency. To address this gap, the objective of this study was to integrate WebP compression into the cryptographic–steganographic pipeline in order to improve image quality, ensure payload integrity, and achieve efficiency suitable for …

When Ownership Meets Licensing–New Normative Expectations And The Need For Nft Categorization: All Your Projects “Are” Belong To Us, Charles Belle Jan 2026

When Ownership Meets Licensing–New Normative Expectations And The Need For Nft Categorization: All Your Projects “Are” Belong To Us, Charles Belle

UC Law Science and Technology Journal

The current treatment of all NFTs in legal scholarship as identical digital assets fundamentally misunderstands their varied applications and the new normative expectations they create. The Moonbirds controversy of 2022, where a creator’s unilateral license change affected nearly 20,000 token holders, exemplifies the crisis: token holders believed they owned digital assets that could be controlled and commercialized, but existing copyright frameworks treat NFTs merely as licenses subject to creator discretion. Picture for Profile (PFP) Projects—community-based NFT collections involving thousands of tokens often with governance and commercial rights—combine concepts of possession, community governance, and commercialization in ways that challenge traditional intellectual …

From Prompt To Clone: Copyright Challenges In Ai Model Distillation, Claudia Philipp Jan 2026

From Prompt To Clone: Copyright Challenges In Ai Model Distillation, Claudia Philipp

UC Law Science and Technology Journal

This paper examines the legality of model distillation in the context of large language models (LLMs), where smaller “student” models are trained by mimicking the outputs of larger, proprietary “teacher” models. As artificial intelligence continues to advance rapidly, the legal framework surrounding patent, and contract law is being tested. Specifically, the paper explores whether current U.S. copyright law offers sufficient protection for frontier LLM developers and whether practices like unauthorized distillation amount to infringement. By analyzing model architecture, training data, behavioral mimicry, and reverse engineering under prevailing legal doctrines—including fair use, terms of use enforcement, and recent litigation—the paper finds …

Codifying Command: Integrating Ai Into Corporate Boards, Kennedy Kelley Jan 2026

Codifying Command: Integrating Ai Into Corporate Boards, Kennedy Kelley

UC Law Science and Technology Journal

Corporate law in the United States requires that boards of directors be composed of human individuals, prohibiting artificial intelligence (AI) from serving in a directorial role. Statutes such as Delaware General Corporation Law §141(b) mandate that directors be natural persons, while fiduciary duty doctrines, liability structures, and regulatory frameworks presuppose human oversight and accountability. This paper argues that such legal constraints are increasingly outdated and should be reformed to permit AI to serve as a board member, alongside natural persons, with full decisionmaking authority. As AI systems become more capable of complex, datadriven reasoning, corporations should not be barred from …

Initial Validation Of The Teleoperator-Avatar Robot Interaction Scale (Tarx), Nicholas Bowman, Rio Harper, Jaime Banks Jan 2026

Initial Validation Of The Teleoperator-Avatar Robot Interaction Scale (Tarx), Nicholas Bowman, Rio Harper, Jaime Banks

Media Studies - All Scholarship

Extant work on human-machine relations indicates humans experience variably social relations with machines. However, there is yet no systematic framework for considering the potential sociality of relations between teleoperators and controlled robots, in addition to their functional associations. We bridge that gap by initially validating a proposed-butuntested measurement model of teleoperator/avatarrobot interaction (the TARX scale) inspired by gamebased player-avatar relations. In a lab-based study of human operators’ subjective experiences in remotecontrolling a robotic arm, we find support for the hypothesized factor structure comprising four dimensions: Relational closeness, anthropomorphic autonomy, critical concern, and sense of control. Results demonstrate the coherence of …

Center For Biological Diversity V. U.S. Bureau Of Land Management, Erika C. Rader

Public Land & Resources Law Review

The Ctr. for Biological Diversity v. U.S. Bureau of Land Mgmt. marks the Ninth Circuit’s second time considering the Willow Project, which plans to drill oil in Alaska. Environmental plaintiffs brought a series of claims under NEPA, the Reserves Act, ANILCA, and the ESA to stop or stall the Project. Plaintiffs focused on the BLM’s use of a “full field development standard” in assessing alternatives to the Project. Despite the range of claims, the Ninth Circuit allowed the Project to move forward, but on remand required the BLM to explain its reasoning for departing from the full field development standard …

Bridging The Gap: A Systematic Review Of Cyber Conflict Forecasting Models And The Case For Ai-Driven Dynamic Frameworks, Salim Arfaoui, Youssef Harrath, Omar El-Gayar Jan 2026

Bridging The Gap: A Systematic Review Of Cyber Conflict Forecasting Models And The Case For Ai-Driven Dynamic Frameworks, Salim Arfaoui, Youssef Harrath, Omar El-Gayar

Research & Publications

Cyber conflict forecasting remains constrained by static models that overlook the integration of geopolitical context with technical indicators. This systematic literature review examines 58 studies (2010–2025) using PRISMA guidelines and an InputProcess-Output framework to classify approaches and identify key gaps. Quantitative methods dominate (67%), yet only 14% incorporate geopolitical variables, despite the political nature of cyber conflict. Major limitations include adversarial adaptation blindness (85% assume static behavior), coarse temporal granularity (72% use daily+ intervals), lack of uncertainty quantification (75%), and minimal modeling of cross-domain escalation (92% cyber-only focus). Strategic forecasting is rare, with just 14% providing long-term insights and 16% …

Rogue Waves In Extended Gross-Pitaevskii Models With A Lee-Huang-Yang Correction, Sathyanarayanan Chandramouli, S. I. Mistakidis, G. C. Katsimiga, D. J. Ratliff, D. J. Frantzeskakis, P. G. Kevrekidis Jan 2026

Rogue Waves In Extended Gross-Pitaevskii Models With A Lee-Huang-Yang Correction, Sathyanarayanan Chandramouli, S. I. Mistakidis, G. C. Katsimiga, D. J. Ratliff, D. J. Frantzeskakis, P. G. Kevrekidis

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

We explore the existence and dynamical generation of rogue waves (RWs) within a one-dimensional quantum droplet-bearing environment. RWs are computed by deploying a space-time fixed point scheme to the relevant extended Gross-Pitaevskii equation (eGPE). Parametric regions where the ensuing RWs are different from their counterparts in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation are identified. To corroborate the controllable generation—relevant to ultracold atom experiments—of these rogue patterns, we exploit two different protocols. The first is based on interfering dam break flows emanating from Riemann initial conditions, and the second refers to the gradient catastrophe of a spatially localized waveform. A multitude of possible …

Optimal Placement Of Electric Vehicle Chargers: A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming Model, Joubin Zahiri Khameneh, Emmanuel Fagbenle Jan 2026

Optimal Placement Of Electric Vehicle Chargers: A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming Model, Joubin Zahiri Khameneh, Emmanuel Fagbenle

Faculty Publications

Electric vehicle adoption is growing, but New Hampshire lags in public charging infrastructure, especially in rural areas. This gap increases range anxiety and economic inefficiencies. In this study, we developed a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to optimally locate new electric vehicle chargers statewide, maximizing coverage and equity under budget constraints. The model includes geographic coverage requirements, population-weighted equity, capacity limits, and a $28 million budget. Moreover, the model recommends 855 Level 2 chargers and 149 Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs) across 247 ZIP Codes, nearly doubling public charging capacity and achieving 98.8% coverage within defined service radii. The plan …

Private Money: Stablecoins, Bitcoin, And The Genius Act, Henry H. Perritt Jr. Jan 2026

Private Money: Stablecoins, Bitcoin, And The Genius Act, Henry H. Perritt Jr.

UC Law Science and Technology Journal

Cryptocurrency has been legalized in the United States. The 2025 GENIUS Act provides a sensible regulatory framework for cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange while avoiding predicted monetary chaos. The Act correctly distinguishes between volatile fiat cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which are unsuitable as payment mechanisms, and stablecoins backed by traditional currencies and reserves.

Historical analysis spanning American monetary systems from the “free banking era” before 1860 through modern digital payments demonstrates that private money has long coexisted with government currency but requires appropriate regulation to prevent bank runs, fraud, and monetary instability. The GENIUS Act addresses key cryptocurrency risks—technological failures, …

Predicting The Long-Term Evolution Of A Barrier Spit In A Changing Climate: A Case Study In Rhode Island, Napatree Point, Alexa Leone, Annette Grilli, Bryan Oakley, Bas Huisman, Ap Van Dongeren, Johan Reyns, Dano Roelvink Jan 2026

Predicting The Long-Term Evolution Of A Barrier Spit In A Changing Climate: A Case Study In Rhode Island, Napatree Point, Alexa Leone, Annette Grilli, Bryan Oakley, Bas Huisman, Ap Van Dongeren, Johan Reyns, Dano Roelvink

Ocean Engineering Faculty Publications

Shoreline recession poses a substantial threat to coastal communities. This study evaluates the long-term viability of the undeveloped Napatree barrier spit in Rhode Island, which provides critical habitat for both flora and fauna, including endangered species, and protects the small town of Westerly from the direct impact of tropical storms and Nor’easters. While the Napatree shoreline has been morphologically stable in recent decades (1970–present), historical periods of higher storm frequency and intensity had resulted in significant changes, including spit splitting and significant transgression. We use the one-line numerical model ShorelineS to assess long-term changes in the position of the Napatree …
