Statistics Of Glinting Clouds Observed By Dscovr And Geostationary Satellites, Tamás Várnai, Alexander Marshak, Alexander Kostinski

This study examines how frequently the specular reflection of sunlight—that is, sun glint—reveals the presence of ice crystals that maintain a steady horizontal orientation. The study analyzes data from the Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) onboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) spacecraft and from collocated images taken by geostationary satellites. The analysis of spatio-temporal variations in glint frequency over vegetated land surfaces reveals that (a) year-to-year variations are modest with no clear trends; (b) glints typically occur 7%–8% more frequently than previously estimated; (c) glints are most frequently observed during the May-August period, and over Asia. We report a 22-year-old male, who presented in 2020 to a clinic in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, with a 5-year history of a fixed preoccupation with the belief of emitting a ‘plastic smell’ from his anal region. This case illustrates a clinically significant link with a history of childhood sexual abuse. The patient was diagnosed with olfactory reference disorder (ORD) with poor insight and comorbid depressive disorder, based on ICD-11 and DSM-5-TR criteria. Extensive medical workups ruled out organic causes. He responded well to a combination therapy of sertraline and aripiprazole, showing significant symptom reduction. The black soldier fly (BSF) larvae is a rich and promising source of alternative protein that continues to increasingly gain global traction as a functional ingredient for sustainable livestock and fish production. The key setback to postharvest processing of stored BSF larvae (BSFL) products is the significant damage caused by two notable storage pests (Tribolium castaneum and Necrobia rufipes). Interactions among tumor, immune, and vascular niches play major roles in glioblastoma (GBM) malignancy and treatment responses. The composition and heterogeneity of extracellular core matrix proteins (CMPs) that mediate such interactions are not well understood. Here, we present an analysis of the clinical relevance of CMP expression in GBM at bulk, single-cell, and spatial anatomical resolution. We show that CMP enrichment is associated with worse patient survival, specific driver oncogenic alterations, mesenchymal state, pro-tumor immune infiltration, and immune checkpoint expression. Nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma (NC) represents a rare, clinically aggressive cancer defined by pathognomonic NUT Midline Carcinoma Family Member 1 (NUTM1) gene fusions, with bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) protein 4 (BRD4)-NUTM1 being the predominant oncogenic driver. Since its description in 1991, gradual advances have clarified the pathologic mechanisms of NC and its diagnostic methods; however, NC treatment remains a significant challenge. The stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway plays a crucial role in immune responses and has emerged as a compelling target in cancer therapy. Despite promising preclinical studies, clinical trials of STING agonists have largely failed to deliver durable efficacy, with no agents progressing to phase III trials. This review examines the biological, pharmacological, and clinical barriers limiting STING pathway activation in cancer treatment. Clinical reasoning has long guided diagnostic accuracy in nursing and medical fields, but its application in mental health counseling remains limited. This paper presents a conceptual diagnostic decision-making (DDM) process to embed clinical reasoning into the diagnostic process for counselors, incorporating two vital constructs: counselor self-efficacy and counselor bias (implicit and explicit). Reading from digital devices is a commonplace activity, although previous meta-analyses have indicated better reading comprehension outcomes when reading from paper. However, it is uncertain how digital devices compare to each other and to paper in terms of reading comprehension outcomes, and how needing to scroll may relate to reading comprehension outcomes. Prostate cancer (PCa) is a common malignancy in men worldwide, with incidence projected to rise in the coming years. Traditional screening and diagnostic methods, such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing and biopsy, face limitations in specificity and invasiveness. Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as stable, non-invasive biomarkers obtainable via liquid biopsies (blood, urine, semen) that could transform PCa management. These small regulatory RNAs reflect underlying tumor biology and are detectable at early disease stages, enabling improved early detection when used alongside or in place of PSA. This study investigated the noise reduction performance of porous asphalt concrete (PAC) pavement under tire–pavement coupling conditions, addressing the limitations of field measurements and laboratory testing. First, tire excitation amplitude parameters were determined based on vibrational contact operational scenarios. Then, finite element simulations were conducted to systematically analyzing the tire–pavement coupling noise characteristics of PAC pavement. The results indicate that PAC pavement effectively reduces the air pumping noise due to its highly porous internal structure, leading to significant noise attenuation.
