Language plays are often considered untranslatable, but is this assumption justified? Lexical creativity presents numerous challenges for translators and raises compelling questions, particularly in children’s literature, where linguistic experimentation is especially abundant. However, the presumed untranslatability of language play stems largely from linguistic and cultural preconceptions. This article argues that lexical creativity is indeed translatable through a variety of strategies. It introduces a new methodological framework that outlines the strategies available to translators. This framework draws on the works of Jacqueline Henry (2003) and
B. J. Epstein (2012), which are combined and further developed to support this approach.

In unilingual states, translating constitutional court decisions is a voluntary, non-binding practice. Such disseminative translations aim to communicate jurisprudence beyond national borders. In South America, only Brazil’s Supremo Tribunal Federal and Colombia’s Corte Constitucional have adopted this approach. This article analyzes their respective translation practices at three levels: within the South American legal space, within their national contexts, and through the specific modalities by which their decisions are translated.

This article examines the enduring role of dialect in Beirut shaped by the legacies of the Lebanese Civil War. Drawing on interviews with two generational cohorts, 30 participants over 50 who lived through the war and 30 participants aged 18-25 who were born after it, this study investigates how lexical and phonological variation is perceived and experienced across time. Findings demonstrate that dialect remains a salient marker of belonging and difference, but its consequences have shifted from life-or-death stakes to patterns of mockery, adaptation, and negotiation in the post-war era. This article reports on a terminology extraction project conducted with second-year master’s students enrolled in a specialized translation program. Students engaged in terminological extraction tasks based on a specialized linguistic corpus, with four different tools: a computer-assisted translation (CAT) software, a concordancer, an online terminology extraction platform, and a large language model (LLM). Students were subsequently required to perform a comparative analysis of the outputs generated by each tool, with the ultimate objective of compiling a monolingual glossary. This article presents a comparative study of four translations of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet produced during three major phases in the history of Arab theatre in general, and of Lebanese theatre in Lebanon and Egypt in particular. It focuses on the diversity of the endings chosen by the translators, which vary according to the sociocultural context of each period as well as the way both audiences and theatre practitioners have perceived the role of theatre. This article asks whether creativity will still be a key skill for translators in the future, as we move towards ubiquitous and more diversified uses of generative AI. The focus is primarily on creativity in translation. Instead, creativity is here conceptualised as a soft skill, crucially linked with a number of social functions. We hypothesise that if the development of creative skills is linked to technical skills and accompanied by critical reflection on the latter, it could be one of the cornerstones of training programmes aimed at future proofing translators faced with rapidly changing professional environments.

This article examines the realities of working as a freelance audiovisual translator through the lens of the EMT (European Master’s in Translation) framework. By tracing the workflow – from client requests to the recognition of subtitled works – it highlights the gap between theory and practice, including issues such as economic insecurity, delayed payments, fragile contracts, and the general invisibility of translators. The study argues that professionalization requires more than linguistic expertise alone; it also demands a wider range of skills, including administrative, legal, and interpersonal competencies. In 2024, the centenary of Franz Kafka’s death inspired a collaborative academic project between the Universidad de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología (UDIT, Madrid) and the Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD, Porto). The initiative, entitled Kafka 2024, reinterpreted The Metamorphosis (1915) through editorial design as both a tribute to Kafka and a pedagogical experiment. The project was developed in five phases: an online workshop, a shared editorial briefing, six weeks of remote collaborative production, a public presentation at ESAD, and the final synthesis in a bilingual publication.

While disinfection byproducts (DBPs) are typically measured at drinking water treatment plants, levels can change dramatically within the distribution system before reaching the consumer. In this study, the spatio-temporal trends of 66 DBPs across 9 different classes were examined in two drinking water distribution systems with similar source waters, but different pretreatments and residual disinfectants. One system uses residual chlorine in the distribution system, and the other uses chloramine, allowing for examination of how DBP concentrations change over time in distribution systems with different residual disinfectants. Boolean functions are fundamental to computation and presently play a crucial role in quantum information processing. This thesis presents two facets of Boolean functions in the context of quantum computing: (I) extending and applying the theoretical framework of Forrelation to cryptographic analysis, and (II) designing efficient quantum circuits for multi-controlled Toffoli gates and Boolean circuit implementations. Given two Boolean functions $f$ and $g$, Forrelation, introduced by Aaronson (2010), measures the correlation between the truth table of $f$ and the Walsh-Hadamard transform of $g$ at the corresponding points. Mutually Unbiased Bases (MUBs) are an important concept in quantum information theory. Two orthonormal bases in a $d$-dimensional complex Hilbert space $\mathbb{C}^d$ are said to be mutually unbiased if the absolute value of the inner product between any pair of vectors, one from each basis, is $1/\sqrt{d}$. A set of $r$ orthonormal bases is called mutually unbiased if every pair of bases in the set is unbiased. This study investigates how foreign bank presence affects financial stability, focusing on the differences between Islamic and conventional banks operating in Indonesia. Using a fixed-effects regression model of panel data of 108 banks over ten years (18 Islamic banks and 90 conventional banks), the Z-score is the dependent variable of stability, and foreign presence is assessed through foreign bank assets (FBA) and foreign bank number (FBN). This research finds that growing foreign bank number (FBN) positively affects stability, while growing foreign bank assets (FBA) negatively affects stability in the short run.
