Michigan is the leading producer of pickling cucumbers in the United States in both processed production and total acreage. This trial evaluated parthenocarpic pickling cucumbers varieties at the Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center in Frankenmuth, Michigan, a major production area for pickling cucumbers. Ten parthenocarpic (seedless) varieties were included in the trial and were donated by Bejo (BJ), Nunhems (NU), PanAmerican (PA), and Rijk Zwaan (RZ) seed companies. Growing conditions during the trial were generally favorable. Yield results showed that half of the evaluated varieties exceeded the generally accepted yield benchmark of 250 bushels per acre. Some patients in Lusaka, Zambia experience adverse health outcomes when pharmacists are not able to fill life-saving, prescription-only medications (POMs) because of supply-chain shortages. Important to pharmacists are strategies to improve POMs supply and mitigate out-of-stock occurrences. Grounded in the SERVQUAL theory as the conceptual framework, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the service quality strategies pharmacists employ to mitigate shortages and enhance patient care. The purpose of this dissertation was to explore the complexities of the informed consent (IC) process in the context of neonatal cardiac interventions, with a focus on parental knowledge and anxiety during decision-making. Across three manuscripts, this work examined conceptual dimensions, feasibility, and acceptability of a new prenatal treatment (palliative care (PC) support sessions), and the effect sizes of this new treatment on parental knowledge and anxiety levels surrounding the IC discussion for neonatal cardiac palliations. In this study, we examine the existence of a reciprocal pattern of performance bias shared between citizens and street-level bureaucrats, which we term as ‘shared pessimism’, assumed to implicate public service reform. Primary data were collected using surveys administered to 207 public service providers and 248 citizen recipients across six Indonesian public service agencies operated in two regional governments. Statistical analysis was then conducted to examine bureaucrats’ self-enhancing bias and their pessimistic view of citizen ratings, as well as to clarify citizens’ tendency to underrate the performance of bureaucrats in public service organizations. This research evaluates the performance of a solar-assisted heating (SAH) system for makeup water in a vacuum deaeration process. The system integrates solar energy into the heating process, with parametric analysis conducted across varying configuration of total solar radiation and water flow rates. The total solar radiation at the experimental site in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia, characterized by tropical weather, fell within the range between 414W/m2 to 568W/m2. Performance analysis showed that a flow rate of 0.4 LPM achieved the target temperature of 61°C required for the deaeration process. Medication non-adherence affects 49% of psychiatric patients and contributes to poor outcomes and increased hospitalizations. At the project site, 40% of patients demonstrated suboptimal adherence and 12 medication-related incidents occurred. Nursing staff lacked specialized training in motivational interviewing and comprehensive adherence assessment. This project developed and implemented an evidence-based educational program to enhance nursing competencies in psychiatric medication adherence counseling. Seven nursing staff members (5 registered nurses, 2 licensed practical nurses) participated in a 90-minute session incorporating the four-domain assessment framework, motivational interviewing techniques, and psychoeducational strategies. Environments are becoming increasingly more variable, as a function of climate change. As this occurs, species may be exposed to conditions outside their preferred range. Such variability in the environment can influence community abundance as individual species respond either similarly (synchronous dynamics) or differently (asynchronous dynamics) to each other. These fluctuations in abundances are important for understanding the impact of environmental variability on species temporal fluctuations in aquatic macroinvertebrates. This group of organisms is species-rich and highly sensitive to environmental fluctuations. Background: It is essential that studies of genomic sequencing (GS) in newborns and children include individuals from under-represented racial and ethnic groups (URG) to ensure future applications are equitably implemented. We conducted interviews with parents from URG to better understand their perspectives on GS research, develop strategies to reduce barriers to enrollment, and facilitate research participation.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews with 50 parents from URG.

Results: Nearly all parents said they would be interested in participating in an infant GS study. Parents were interested in participating in GS research for reasons including clinical utility, personal utility, and/or family health benefits. Deterrents …

The intervention was an evidence-based presentation on the teach-back method for staff members to educate them about the importance of using the teach-back method for patient teaching to increase medication adherence among mental health patients. Trichomes have been well studied as a physical defense against stress. With climate change, stressors like drought and/or herbivory can have exacerbated effects on crop morpho-physiology. However, the interactive effects of such stressors on physical defenses like trichomes and their effects on herbivores is poorly understood. Rising coastal temperatures and intensity of heatwaves increasing the extremity of flooding events pose growing threats to the health and resilience of coastal communities. Building on recent global compound hazard assessments (Zhou et al., 2024), this study provides a high-resolution analysis of heatwave trends across the Tampa Bay area from 1993 to 2026 using land surface temperatures (LST). To evaluate compound hazards, flood maps were sourced for comparison. LST’s were derived from 30 m Landsat imagery to characterize temperature increases in the region. Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is a highly aggressive and lethal subtype of prostate cancer (PCa) that often emerges in response to androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs), which are widely used in treating metastatic castration-resistant and hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. The incidence of NEPC is increasing, yet effective therapeutic strategies remain limited due to an incomplete understanding of its molecular drivers. Through transcriptomic analyses of human prostate tumor samples, we identified the histone lysine demethylase KDM4A as uniquely overexpressed in human and mouse NEPC compared to prostate adenocarcinoma. Major spinal fusion procedures are associated with significant intraoperative blood loss, increasing transfusion exposure, morbidity, and length of hospitalization. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has demonstrated efficacy in reducing blood loss in orthopedic surgery; however, optimal dosing strategies in patients with significant comorbidities remain debated. Emerging evidence supports the use of high-dose TXA when appropriately adjusted for renal function. This case describes anesthetic management of a patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing complex posterior spinal surgery.

Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is an acute disturbance in mental status that typically occurs within the first five postoperative days. Its incidence increases with age, affecting up to 50% of patients over 60. Risk factors include benzodiazepine use, female gender, emergency surgery, and comorbidities such as diabetes and cerebrovascular disease. The development of POD is associated with increased morbidity and prolonged hospital stays.

A 71-year-old Caucasian female underwent a total laparoscopic robotic hysterectomy. Her medical history included anxiety, hypertension, and diabetes.
