The Glass Planet, Eimile J. O'Hara Jan 2026

The Glass Planet, Eimile J. O'Hara

Night Flight: Online Literary Journal

The Glass Planet is a speculative science fiction short story set on Virellen, a world made entirely of living crystal that communicates through sound and resonance. When a young human researcher detects a dangerous anomaly beneath the planet’s surface, she forms an unlikely alliance with a member of an alien species to prevent the reawakening of an ancient crystal intelligence. As the planet destabilizes, the story explores themes of cooperation, balance, and the consequences of ignoring warning signs in unfamiliar worlds.

Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (Pam) With Progression To Brain Death Following Naegleria Fowleri Infection In A Teenage Female, Samantha Brener, Stephen Schaffner, Ingrid Y. Camelo, Hasan Samra, Renuka Mehta Jan 2026

Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (Pam) With Progression To Brain Death Following Naegleria Fowleri Infection In A Teenage Female, Samantha Brener, Stephen Schaffner, Ingrid Y. Camelo, Hasan Samra, Renuka Mehta

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Background: Naegleria fowleri is a high-temperature freshwater-living amoeba causing PAM by invading nasal epithelium. N. fowleri lives ubiquitously in high-temperature freshwater, but only around 400 cases of PAM have been published worldwide. The mortality rate is 98%. No treatment is 100% effective. Case Presentation: A previously healthy 17-year-old female presented to an urgent care center with fever, headache, sore throat, ear pain, and dizziness. She had swum in freshwater 5 days prior. Her symptoms progressed to altered mental status, photo- and phonophobia, and neck stiffness. Within 4 days, she developed increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and eventually brain death. Two unsuccessful …

Be Alert To Alerd: Acute Leukoencephalopathy With Restricted Diffusion - Atypical Presentation Of A Rare Case, Neena Baby, Sachin Ajith, Lovena Mohammed, Robin Thomas, Anil Kumar Divakar, Poornima Prabhu, Sureshkumar Radhakrishnan

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Background: Acute leukoencephalopathy with restricted diffusion (ALERD) is a novel entity observed in children with acute encephalopathy. It is characterized by diffusion restriction on MRI, which can be the distinctive and sometimes the only imaging finding. Other routine MRI sequences may appear normal. ALERD can have infectious or noninfectious causes. In this case, we present a patient with infectious ALERD associated with Influenza B virus. Case Presentation: A 10-year-old male presented to the emergency room with a brief history of fever and cough, followed by altered sensorium. He was irritable and ataxic. Neck stiffness was elicited upon examination. An MRI …

Examining Neural Correlates Of Sexual Preferences Between Persian Homo- And Heterosexual Males Using Psychological Assessments And Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging In Specifying Cognitive Map: A Limited And Cross-Sectional Study, Abdollah Khorshidi

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Although the brain is an important part of a person’s sexual life, little is known about the correlations between sexual response and brain activation. This study examines brain response through clinical testing to reveal a number of brain structures whose activation are relevant to sexual arousal besides psychological testing according to the common traditional values and standards of Iranian society. Based on initial self-report, 25 homosexual and 25 heterosexual males participated in this test to elucidate the identity and sexual trends via Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2). Also, an fMRI technique — by presenting distinct homo- and heterosexual sex erotic …

Journal of Pediatric Neurology

Posterior fossa hemorrhage (PFH) is a highly morbid condition in preterm and term infants. In this article, we aim to first describe a case of posterior fossa hemorrhage (PFH) and using this example, provide a comprehensive narrative review of the pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and management of PFH. Management may differ depending on the etiology and based on careful consideration of the risks and benefits of surgical versus conservative management.
