Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association

Cyberbullying among middle school students is a growing problem that is shown to affect psychological development in middle school youth which can result in self-harm and suicide. Evidence suggests more frequent communication between children and their caregivers is a protective factor against cyberbullying. The KnowBullying app is designed to increase caregiver and student communication to prevent bullying. This study examines the effectiveness of the KnowBullying app regarding enhanced caregiver and child communication and cyberbullying experience reduction in middle school students. Five students and nine caregivers were given surveys before and after the caregivers downloaded and used the KnowBullying app. The …

Analysing Approaches To Specify Automated Manufacturing Systems, Jonathan Walker Jan 2022

Analysing Approaches To Specify Automated Manufacturing Systems, Jonathan Walker

Plymouth Business School Theses

Automating manufacturing systems can achieve competitive advantage leading to growth in profits through efficiency gains and other advantages including safety of workers and quality of produced products. However, without accurate specification there is no guarantee of realising return on investment. Automated systems are becoming more complex as the need for customisability and variability of products increases and can only be satisfied through flexibility of production processes. To aid companies in specifying automation and mitigate the risks of project failure an approach is needed that guides users choices. The aim of the research was to investigate approaches to specify automated manufacturing …

An Empirical Study Of The Effects Of Regulatory Systems On The Collection Of Late Payment Of Commercial Debts Owed To Micro And Small Businesses In The Uk, Ashley Mark Smith Jan 2022

An Empirical Study Of The Effects Of Regulatory Systems On The Collection Of Late Payment Of Commercial Debts Owed To Micro And Small Businesses In The Uk, Ashley Mark Smith

Plymouth Business School Theses

Trust is the foundation of trade credit. Failure to pay on time affects the supplier’s business, causing stress and potential bankruptcy. Small businesses employ formal (solicitors, debt collectors, statutory demands) and informal (discounts, extended payment terms, violence) techniques to enforce payment. The Government has enacted measures requiring larger buyers to report their payment practices and has given businesses the right to claim interest, yet businesses are either unaware or do not use these provisions. The research phase of this thesis was conducted in 2018/19 and incorporated an initial survey with 74 respondents followed by a second survey with 250 respondents. …

Intimacy, Identity And Loyalty: Exploring The Mediation Pathways Towards Donor Loyalty And The Moderating Role Of Donor Identity Esteem, Dejie Kong Jan 2022

Intimacy, Identity And Loyalty: Exploring The Mediation Pathways Towards Donor Loyalty And The Moderating Role Of Donor Identity Esteem, Dejie Kong

Plymouth Business School Theses

As the global economic and political situation is increasingly prominent, donor loyalty is one of the biggest challenges facing the charity sector in many countries today. Research in fundraising has shown that even a small improvement in donor loyalty can have a huge impact on charity income in the long term. Although marketing scholars have examined factors such as trust, commitment and satisfaction—the key to drive donor loyalty — the complex nature of donors’ underlying psychological processes toward donor loyalty remains unclear. This thesis aims to enhance our understanding of donor loyalty by studying the role of intimacy and donor …

An Evaluation Of Supply Lead Time In The Nigerian Oil Downstream Sector: A System Dynamic Approach, Mac-Daniel Uhuka Jan 2022

An Evaluation Of Supply Lead Time In The Nigerian Oil Downstream Sector: A System Dynamic Approach, Mac-Daniel Uhuka

Plymouth Business School Theses

MAC-DANIEL UHUKA. AN EVALUATION OF SUPPLY LEAD TIME IN THE NIGERIAN OIL DOWNSTREAM SECTOR: A SYSTEM DYNAMIC APPROACH. This thesis presents a system dynamics (SD) approach for investigating the demand amplification problem, also known as the bullwhip effect, which has been studied extensively in the literature. The demand amplification occurs when supply chain moves upstream from the downstream. The problem of bullwhip effect can be costly and disruptive, and this is a problem supply chain managers normally seeks to minimise. The causes of bullwhip effect can be poor system design, poor policies, structure of the company and delays in material …

Investigating Employment In The Nigerian Offshore Oil And Gas Industry: Is Gender A Prerequisite?, Victor Olufunmilade Apiafi Jan 2022

Investigating Employment In The Nigerian Offshore Oil And Gas Industry: Is Gender A Prerequisite?, Victor Olufunmilade Apiafi

Plymouth Business School Theses

This study evaluates the factors influencing the inclusion of females into the Nigerian offshore industry. After extensive literature reviews, it is concluded that there is a shortage of females employed in this industry due to the patriarchal nature of Nigerian society. Evidently, the patriarchal nature of this country influences the rate of inclusion of females into the Nigerian offshore industry. Patriarchy in the Nigerian society also influences gender roles, male domination and gender discrimination, resulting in the limited inclusion of females into the Nigerian offshore industry. In Nigeria, the social conception of females as naturally incommensurate to males has given …

Resource Curse, Economic Growth And Development: Panel Data Evidence From Natural Resources-Rich Countries, Marwan Mohamed Alssdek Alssadek Jan 2022

Resource Curse, Economic Growth And Development: Panel Data Evidence From Natural Resources-Rich Countries, Marwan Mohamed Alssdek Alssadek

Plymouth Business School Theses

This thesis examines three plausible explanations for the natural resource curse phenomenon– the Dutch disease, institutional quality, and human capital. The phenomenon implies that countries rich in natural resources tend to have lower economic growth and development compared to countries that have fewer natural resources. The examination of this phenomenon has been organised into three empirical essays in the thesis. The first empirical essay applies the panel data fixed effect with Driscoll and Kraay’s standard errors and cross-sectional augmented distributed lag (CS-ARDL) approaches to examine the Dutch disease problem. Our results show strong evidence that the spending and the resource …

Exploring The Effect Of Branding On Heritage Tourism Management In China, Xia Yin Jan 2022

Exploring The Effect Of Branding On Heritage Tourism Management In China, Xia Yin

Plymouth Business School Theses

China's World Heritage Sites have increasingly been developed to exploit local tourism and alleviate poverty. However, this destination brand may lack a vital destination branding process, which must combine brand components to increase tourist visitation and create loyalty. As a result, the destination image will be negatively affected, which would damage the financial gain needed for heritage conservation. This research contributed to the theory by establishing a novel conceptual framework of destination branding, deploying destination identification, attachment, and satisfaction to predict destination image and loyalty. Based on an objective perspective, this study adopted a positivist philosophy and the approach of …

Towards An Understanding Of Effortful Fundraising Experiences: Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis In Fundraising Research, George Shelton

Plymouth Business School Theses

Physical-activity oriented community fundraising has experienced an exponential growth in popularity over the past 15 years. The aim of this study was to explore the value of effortful fundraising experiences, from the point of view of participants, and explore the impact that these experiences have on people’s lives. This study used an IPA approach to interview 23 individuals, recognising the role of participants as proxy (nonprofessional) fundraisers for charitable organisations, and the unique organisation donor dynamic that this creates. It also bought together relevant psychological theory related to physical activity fundraising experiences (through a narrative literature review) and used primary …

A Rare And Challenging Case Of Refractory Fetal Supraventricular Tachycardia, Jane Rudolph Jan 2022

A Rare And Challenging Case Of Refractory Fetal Supraventricular Tachycardia, Jane Rudolph

All Publications

Fetal supraventricular tachycardia can be difficult to manage and offers a challenging treatment course, particularly in refractory cases. The treatment course must balance maternal well-being with the health status of the fetus, all while racing against possible progression to hydrops fetalis or permanent cardiac dysfunction. We describe a case of fetal supraventricular tachycardia that demonstrates many of these concepts, as well as the importance of utilizing several treatment pathways in refractory cases.

Short-Distance Structure Of Unpolarized Gluon Pseudodistributions, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin Jan 2022

Short-Distance Structure Of Unpolarized Gluon Pseudodistributions, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin

Physics Faculty Publications

We present the results that form the basis for calculations of the unpolarized gluon parton distributions (PDFs) using the pseudo-PDF approach. We give the results for the most complicated box diagram both for gluon bilocal operators with arbitrary indices and for combinations of indices corresponding to three matrix elements that are most convenient to extract the twist-2 invariant amplitude. We also present detailed results for the gluon-quark transition diagram. The additional results for the box diagram and the gluon-quark contribution may be used for extractions of the gluon PDF from different matrix elements, with a possible cross-check of the results …

The Cross-Section Measurement For The 3H (E, E', K+) Nnλ Reaction, K. N. Suzuki, T. Gogami, B. Pandey, Florian Hauenstein, Charles E. Hyde, Z. Ye, J. Zhang, X. Zheng, Et Al.

Physics Faculty Publications

The small binding energy of the hypertriton leads to predictions of the non-existence of bound hypernuclei for isotriplet three-body systems such as nnΛ. However, invariant mass spectroscopy at GSI has reported events that may be interpreted as the bound nnΛ state. The nnΛ state was sought by missing-mass spectroscopy via the (e, e′K+) reaction at Jefferson Lab’s experimental Hall A. The present experiment has higher sensitivity to the nnΛ-state investigation in terms of better precision by a factor of about three. The analysis shown in this article focuses on the derivation of the reaction cross-section for …

The first results on the σLT′ structure function in exclusive π0p electroproduction at invariant masses of the final state of 1.5GeV < W < 1.8 GeV and in the range of photon virtualities 0.4 GeV2 < Q2 < 1.0 GeV2 were obtained from data on beam spin asymmetries and differential cross sections measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The Legendre moments determined from the σLT′ structure function have demonstrated sensitivity to the contributions from the nucleon resonances in the second and third resonance regions. These new data on the beam spin asymmetries in π0p electroproduction extend the opportunities for the extraction of the nucleon resonance electro-excitation amplitudes in …

Physics Faculty Publications

We report precision determinations of the beam-normal single spin asymmetries (An) in the elastic scattering of 0.95 and 2.18 GeV electrons off 12C, 40Ca, 48Ca, and 208Pb at very forward angles where the most detailed theoretical calculations have been performed. The first measurements of An for 40Ca and 48Ca are found to be similar to that of 12C, consistent with expectations and thus demonstrating the validity of theoretical calculations for nuclei with Z ≤ 20. We also report An for 208Pb at two …

We present a search for axionlike particles, a, produced in photon-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of approximately 4 GeV, focusing on the scenario where the a-gluon coupling is dominant. The search uses a → γγ and a → π+π−π0 decays, and a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 168  pb−1 collected with the GlueX detector. The search for a → γγ decays is performed in the mass range of 180 < ma <480  MeV, while the search for a → π+π−π0 decays explores the 600 < ma …

Reply To "Comment On 'Quasielastic Lepton Scattering And B=Back-To-Back Nucleons In The Short-Time Approximation' ", S. Pastore, J. Carlson, Rocco Schiavilla, J. L. Barrow, S. Gandolfi, R. B. Wiringa

Physics Faculty Publications

We briefly review the concept of scaling and how it occurs in quasielastic electron and neutrino scattering from nuclei, and then the particular approach to scaling in the short-time approximation. We show that, whereas two-nucleon currents do significantly enhance the transverse electromagnetic response, they do not spoil scaling, but, in fact, enhance it. We provide scaling results obtained in the short-time approximation that verify this claim. The enhanced scaling, although obtained empirically, is not “accidental”—as claimed in [O. Benhar, Phys. Rev. C 105, 049801 (2022)]—but rather reflects quasielastic kinematics and the dominant role played by pion-exchange interactions and currents …

Here, we report the full results of the analysis of the data set corresponding to beam energy 2.222 GeV, and spanning the missing momentum and missing energy range 15 ≲ pm ≲ 300  MeV /c and 12 ≲ Em ≲ 80  MeV. The reduced cross section, determined as a function of pm and Em with ≈ 4% accuracy, has been fitted using the results of Monte Carlo simulations involving a model spectral function and …

Unpolarized And Polarized Gluon Pseudo-Distributions At Short Distances: Forward Case, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin Jan 2022

Unpolarized And Polarized Gluon Pseudo-Distributions At Short Distances: Forward Case, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin

Physics Faculty Publications

We present the results that are necessary in the ongoing lattice calculations of the unpolarized and polarized gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) within the pseudo-PDF approach. We give a classification of possible two-gluon correlator functions and identify those that contain the invariant amplitude determining the gluon PDF in the light-cone z2 → 0 limit. One-loop calculations have been performed in the coordinate representation and in an explicitly gauge-invariant form. We made an effort to separate ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) sources of the ln(−z2)-dependence at short distances z2. The UV terms cancel in the reduced …

Combining Nonperturbative Transverse Momentum Dependence With Tmd Evolution, J.O. Gonzalez-Hernandez, T. C. Rogers, N. Sato Jan 2022

Combining Nonperturbative Transverse Momentum Dependence With Tmd Evolution, J.O. Gonzalez-Hernandez, T. C. Rogers, N. Sato

Physics Faculty Publications

Central to understanding the nonperturbative, intrinsic partonic nature of hadron structure are the concepts of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution and fragmentation functions. A TMD factorization approach to the phenomenology of semi-inclusive processes that includes evolution, higher orders, and matching to larger transverse momentum is ultimately necessary for reliably connecting with phenomenologically extracted nonperturbative structures, especially when widely different scales are involved. In this paper, we will address some of the difficulties that arise when phenomenological techniques that were originally designed for very high energy applications are extended to studies of hadron structures, and we will solidify the connection …

Observation of the onset of color transparency in baryons would provide a new means of studying the nuclear strong force and would be the first clear evidence of baryons transforming into a color-neutral point-like size in the nucleus as predicted by quantum chromodynamics. Recent C (e, e′p) results from electron-scattering did not observe the onset of color transparency (CT) in protons up to spacelike four-momentum transfers squared, Q2 = 14.2 GeV 2 . The traditional methods of searching for CT in (e, e′p) scattering use heavy targets favoring kinematics with already initially reduced final state interactions (FSIs) such that …
