Religion has often been cited as a protective factor against psychopathology and suicidal ideation. However, this pattern does not always hold true. In this study, I sought to understand these exceptions by examining the relationship between explicit beliefs about God, scrupulosity, suicidal ideation, and psychological well-being among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). 105 adults were recruited and completed self-report measures related to the study variables. Negative explicit beliefs were positively correlated with scrupulosity, depression, anxiety, stress, and suicidal ideation. Scrupulosity was also positively correlated with depression, anxiety, stress, and suicidal ideation. Positive beliefs were …

Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is an important lipid transporter in the brain. There are three different ApoE variants: ApoE2, ApoE3, and ApoE4. Each of these variants either contribute to or protect against Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The Hippocampus (HC) and the Entorhinal Region (ER) of the brain consistently develop AD pathology first. We hypothesize that ApoE variants affect lipid and protein metabolism in these regions more strongly than in others. Differences in the regional regulation and the ApoE-isoform impacts of these metabolic pathways remain unknown.

Most methods that astronomers use to characterize the strength of atmospheric turbulence in and around their observatories use differential image motion monitors observing a star to provide the necessary data for the measurement. With the Moon becoming a greater national priority, the need to characterize atmospheric paths between observatories on Earth and the Moon is potentially going to grow in the future. To this end, the differential image motion monitor is not an ideal instrument for characterizing turbulence along paths between observatories and the Moon as the bright Moon makes it difficult to detect and locate stars in its vicinity. …

A landlord commenced a nonpayment proceeding against a tenant. The tenant moved to dismiss, arguing the predicate rent demand was fatally defective because it demanded rent for a period already paid through ERAP, representing approximately 13.8% of the total arrears. The court found that a rent demand failing to credit ERAP funds for designated months does not state the approximate good faith rent owed, which is a condition precedent for a non-payment proceeding. Thus, the court granted the tenant's motion, dismissing the proceeding without prejudice, as a defective rent demand cannot be amended.

Ensuring reliable anomaly detection in industrial robots is critical for safe and autonomous manufacturing operations. However, it remains challenging due to temporal dependencies and class imbalance in sensor data. This study presents a reinforcement learning approach using Deep Q-Network (DQN) enhanced with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM) for robust anomaly detection in robotic systems. The proposed framework integrates an LSTM into the DQN policy to capture temporal patterns. It also introduces a novel GBM-based reward mechanism that mitigates class imbalance by applying SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique) after removing temporal dependencies. This qualitative study examined the intricate dynamics between perceived Black narcissistic mothers and their daughters, particularly regarding potential delinquent behaviors exhibited by the daughters. By utilizing in-depth interviews with seven participants, I sought to uncover the psychological and relational factors contributing to these behaviors’ development. Thematic analysis indicated that daughters of narcissistic mothers often endure emotional neglect, manipulation, and lack of healthy role modeling. This can result in feelings of inadequacy and rebellion. Themes of identity confusion, low self-esteem, and desire for autonomy surfaced as significant contributors to the daughters’ engagement in delinquent activities. Grounded in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to explore effective strategies that seven HRMs in small- to medium-sized manufacturing industries used to retain employees for more than 5 years. Background: Fifty-five to ninety percent of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) report disabling fatigue, but a previous survey found that only 31% of UK adults with MS experiencing fatigue report being offered any treatment. The aim of this study was to capture the service perspective of routine care for MS fatigue and resource availability. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was distributed to NHS services across the United Kingdom to be completed by healthcare professionals working with people with MS. Results: Eighteen services completed the survey. Services supported a median of 1100 patients. Allied healthcare professional availability varied across services but …

OBJECTIVE: Lack of ergonomic practices in the operating room results in significant musculoskeletal strain. This study obtains a current assessment of self-reported musculoskeletal strain associated with endoscopic endonasal and open skull base surgery as reported by members of the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS).

STUDY DESIGN: Online Survey.

SETTING: Online.

METHODS: A survey assessing current symptoms in endoscopic skull base surgery was distributed to members of the NASBS.

RESULTS: Sixty-six responses were completed and analyzed. 95% of respondents indicated they had musculoskeletal strain at the neck and C-spine. There was no significant difference in average operating time per week …

The research question for this project focuses on food sovereignty. “How do individuals working with food in Chicago identify their role in promoting food sovereignty?” is a research question that expands with some nuance into the question of “who” individuals are in terms of political orientation. When asked to identify political ideology and economic ideology, the values can be greater quantified. Using mixed-methods, this paper critically assesses perspectives of individuals working with food in Chicago. Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer in men in the United States with a 5-year relative survival rate for people with distant metastases of 36%. We conducted a single institution, retrospective cohort study of patients with metastatic PC to investigate whether certain gene mutations can be used as predictive biomarkers.

Methods: 200 patients with metastatic hormone sensitive (mHSPC) and castration resistant (mCRPC) prostate cancer who had a FoundationOne report and were treated from June 2007 to October 2024 were included in the study. Publicly accessible spaceborne remote sensing datasets often lack the spatial resolution required to reliably distinguish archeological features from their surrounding geomorphological contexts. In this study, we assess the potential of super-resolution (SR) products derived from multiple public-domain remote sensing datasets for a systematic archeological survey in the Caral–Supe region. We focus on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and topographic datasets—including Sentinel-1, Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR), and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)—because of their capacity to detect subtle surface expressions and shallow subsurface structures obscured by vegetation or sediment cover. Polymer electrolytes have been explored as an alternative to conventional aqueous electrolytes in zinc-ion batteries, particularly for flexible and wearable applications. Despite the increasing interest in polymer electrolyte-based zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), their development is still in its early stages due to various challenges. In this study, we investigated three promising polymer electrolytes: CSAM (carboxyl methyl chitosan with acrylamide monomer), PAM (polyacrylamide monomer hydrogel electrolyte), and p-PBI (phosphate-doped polybenzimidazole solid electrolyte) with Zn(ClO₄)₂ and Zn(OTf)₂, as electrolytes for zinc-ion batteries. The study of aging in past populations lies at the intersection of bioarchaeology and paleodemography, offering insight into both biological processes and lived social experience. Despite this potential, older adults are often rendered “invisible” in skeletal assemblages due to methodological and cultural biases. This thesis addresses this gap through a rare, community-based study of aging among the Székely population of Transylvania. By integrating osteological analysis of individuals (11th–19th centuries) from the archaeological Papdomb church cemetery with demographic data derived from the modern cemetery headstones (ca.1850–present), this research examines patterns of aging, longevity, and elder visibility across a culturally and spatially …

Although bars are commonly conceptualized as sites of disorder and violence, they are also spaces where social order is routinely produced and maintained. Bars are frequent targets of crime prevention efforts because they tend to concentrate aggression, disorder, and crime; yet little is known about how barroom actors—owners, bartenders, and regular patrons—actively maintain order. Explanations typically emphasize (a) physical features of bars (layout, lighting, crowding, door policies), (b) individual and situational predictors (clientele mix, intoxication levels), and (c) the actions of formal controllers—owners, bartenders, and bouncers. In this nonpayment proceeding, the landlord moved to strike the tenant's affirmative defenses and counterclaims, and the tenant cross-moved to amend their answer. The court partially granted the landlord's motion, dismissing some defenses (personal jurisdiction for petition, breach of prior stipulation) and several counterclaims (duplicative, tort claims outside jurisdiction). However, defenses challenging predicate notice service, validity of rent, retaliatory eviction, harassment, and warranty of habitability were sustained. The tenant's cross-motion to amend the answer to add rent overcharge defenses and a counterclaim, challenging the legal rent history and a prior agreement, was granted, finding them not devoid of merit.

The design of a Promise program or place-based college scholarship requires community partners to make three key decisions: 1) Which students are eligible, 2) Where can students use the scholarship?, and 3) How should the scholarship be structured? Changes in available funding may affect all three decisions. This practice brief, developed in conjunction with the Kresge Foundation, lays out key principles for redesigning Promise programs when available funding changes, providing three case study examples to illustrate how program officials navigated redesign choices.

Excess phosphorus (P) loading is a key driver of eutrophication and harmful algal blooms (HABs) in aquatic systems worldwide. This relationship is of increasing concern in coastal Louisiana, where climate variability, altered hydrology, and land-use change converge, resulting in increased hydrologic and nutrient loading into coastal systems. This dissertation examines controls on P cycling in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin through a multi-scale framework linking estuarine processes, watershed loading, climate and weather patterns, and sediment dynamics.
