G-Trac: Graph-Textual Representations Alignment For Cold-Start Recommendations, Li Yang Chang, Yuan Fang, Ming Feng Tsai, Chuan Ju Wang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The cold-start problem remains a significant challenge in recommendation systems, particularly for new users or unseen items with little to no historical data. Existing methods, including graph neural networks, often struggle in such scenarios. Inspired by the success of transformer models in natural language processing, we propose G-TRAC (Graph-Textual Representations Alignment for Cold-start Recommendations), a novel approach that integrates transformer-based textual modeling with graph neural networks. By effectively leveraging both textual and structural information, G-TRAC addresses cold-start challenges more effectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate its ability to enhance recommendation quality and generalize well across diverse scenarios.

A ‘Digital Dominion’: Launching The Commonwealth Model Law On Digital Trade, Craig Atkinson

Centre for Digital Law

A legislative text published for the benefit of its 56 member countries, the Commonwealth of Nations officially adopted the Model Law on Digital Trade (MLDT) in September 2025. The Commonwealth MLDT addresses a persistent barrier to digital trade (i.e., all trade that is digitally ordered and/or digitally delivered): the laws of many jurisdictions do not sufficiently recognise the legal requirements of electronic commerce (e-commerce) and continue to emphasise paper-bases for commercial communications and transactions in domestic and cross-border contexts.

Adverse fire regimes threaten biodiversity, potentially leading to population declines and increased extinction risk. Understanding how varying fire regimes affect threatened species is essential for effective ecosystem management, including in Western Australia where diverse ecosystems are exposed to wildfires, Indigenous burning, and prescribed fire. We compiled and synthesised data on the threat of adverse fire regimes to threatened animal taxa in Western Australia. Using a threat classification scheme, we ranked adverse fire regimes as having either no, low, medium, high, or unknown impact on each taxon. A total of 212 taxa were reviewed, 153 (72%) of which are considered fire-threatened: …

In-Situ Carbon Mineralization Through Injection Of Co2-Saturated Water Into Basalts: Effects On Pore Network, Seyi Philemon Akanji, Lionel Esteban, Ausama Giwelli, Joel Sarout, Alireza Keshavarz, Stefan Iglauer

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) offers the potential to remove and safely store significant quantities of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thereby limiting global warming. Conventional geological storage involves injecting CO2, in gaseous or supercritical state, into porous rock reservoirs, relying on geological top seals, capillary forces and/or dissolution in groundwater as the primary “locking-in” processes. An alternative method injects CO2-saturated water into mafic rocks (basalts), chemically inducing in-situ mineralization of CO2 to form solid carbonate minerals. This mechanism offers the lowest risk of carbon returning to the atmosphere. This review synthesizes field and laboratory studies on CO2 mineralization in …

Machine Learning-Enriched Distributionally Robust Optimization And Hybrid Decomposition To Joint Optimization Of Transportation Hub Network Design And Pricing, Seyed Ashkan Hosseini Shekarabi, Reza Kiani Mavi, Flavio Romero Macau, Ali Papi, Ashkan Teymouri

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Freight transportation within the hub-assisted systems enhances economies of scale for carriers by consolidating logistics operations through central hubs, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Optimally designing such transportation systems creates competitive advantages for carriers, enabling them to reduce shipping prices and, consequently, capture a larger share of the market from shippers’ demand. This research addresses the joint optimization of intermodal transportation hub network design and pricing decisions under price-dependent and uncertain demand, with the objective of maximizing carrier's profit. Since the uncertain shipping demand follows a nonlinear relation with price, the carrier not only optimizes shipping network design but …

Effects Of Dual-Eligible Integrated Care Plans On Medicaid Enrollment And Retention: Evidence From The Implementation Of Medicare-Medicaid Plans, Eric T Roberts, Eliza Macneal, Kenton J Johnston, José F Figueroa

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Medicare and Medicaid are separate programs that together cover 13 million low-income older adults and people with disabilities, known as dual-eligible individuals. Concern about a lack of coordination across Medicare and Medicaid has prompted the development of Integrated Care Programs (ICPs). Although the primary goal of ICPs is to coordinate financing and care across Medicare and Medicaid, ICPs may also influence whether low-income individuals obtain or keep Medicaid. We evaluated whether the rollout of Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MMPs)-one of the largest ICPs-was associated with changes in Medicaid take-up and retention among Medicare beneficiaries residing in high-poverty zip codes. Using a stacked …

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known for their strong binding properties to soil matrices owing to their amphiphilic properties. While most studies focus on the search for novel PFAS bio degraders, our knowledge of sustainable biomolecules that could drive PFAS desorption and make them more bioavailable is limited. This study investigated the effectiveness of rhamnolipids and organic acids in desorbing PFAS compounds from contaminated soil. Rhamnolipids (25 mg/L) significantly enhanced the release of PFAS compounds from soil, achieving up to 90 % desorption. Acetic acid provided 60–90 % desorption efficiency for most of the PFAS studied, except for PFDA …

The Free Exercise Of Religion As A Privilege, Kyron J. Huigens Feb 2026

The Free Exercise Of Religion As A Privilege, Kyron J. Huigens

Articles

In the span of a decade, the Supreme Court has restructured the Free Exercise Clause entirely. It has removed the counterweight of disestablishment; it has sought parity between religion and secularity by means of strict scrutiny analysis turning on a principle of nondiscrimination; and it has opened the way to a general exemption from secular law for the faithful by ceding the question of what counts as an exercise of religion to the faithful themselves. This Article proposes reading the free exercise of religion as a privilege in response to these changes. This privilege stands against secular law in the …
