Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

To utilize the reactive power regulation and voltage control capabilities of reactive power devices and photovoltaic inverters and improve system operation efficiency and safety stability, a coordinated reactive voltage control of the distribution network with photovoltaic inverter and magnetically controlled reactor based on adaptive voltage partition weights is proposed. By detecting the grid-connected point voltage range, the reactive power under the weight calculation integrated strategy is adaptively obtained, and the photovoltaic inverter is controlled. Meanwhile, an optimization model with voltage deviation and active transmission loss as objectives is established to optimize the reactive power of the distribution network containing magnetically …

Research On Distance Protection Under Critical Condition Based On Improved Ellipse Fitting, Mei Li, Zijian Zhang Feb 2026

Research On Distance Protection Under Critical Condition Based On Improved Ellipse Fitting, Mei Li, Zijian Zhang

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

When disturbances such as sudden load changes, generator tripping, or transmission line faults occur, the system will experience a power swing (PS). In this case, the impedance trajectory detected by the distance protection may encroach into zone Ⅲ of the protection, leading to maloperation or refusal operation of the distance protection and triggering cascade failures. Therefore, it is crucial to accurately distinguish PS and faults. A distance protection method based on improved ellipse fitting is proposed. Firstly, a Lissajous figure (LF) is constructed by using voltage and current signals at the protection mounting location, and a critical condition detection algorithm …

Hiding In Plain Sight: Trafficking Persons With Disabilities For Begging In Ethiopia, Annabel Erulkar, Galan Bekuma, Lemi Negeri, Getachew Teshome Eregata, Musie Tilahun, Getu Asnake, Getahun Semeon, Weyneshet Gezahegn

Humanitarian Task Force

Adults and children with disabilities are at increased risk of human trafficking for begging because of extreme poverty and high rates of illiteracy; cultural norms and stigma leading to low status; lack of social and legal protection; and their reliance on others for sustenance and help with movement, especially in cities which are fraught with risks. Despite this, trafficking of persons with disabilities for begging has received very little attention from researchers, human rights groups or disability advocates. This report presents findings from among the first studies to focus on trafficking of persons with disabilities for begging.

Peak Lower Limb Joint Angles Are Weak Predictors Of Hamstring Length Change During Sprinting, Shayne Vial, Jodie Cochrane Wilkie, Anthony J. Blazevich, Daniel Kadlec

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Non-contact hamstring injuries (HSIs) commonly occur during the late swing phase of sprinting, when muscle–tendon units (MTUs) approach maximum length. Although sagittal-plane pelvis, hip and knee angles are often used as surrogate measures of overall hamstring lengthening, their predictive validity remains uncertain. This study investigated whether peak three-dimensional lower limb joint angles predict length change in the biarticular hamstring MTUs from peak hip flexion through to toe off (0–100 %) in fourteen intermediate-level male soccer players sprinting at maximal speed (8.56 ± 0.47 m·s−1). Participant-specific musculoskeletal models were used to compute MTU lengths for the biceps femoris long head (BFlh), …

Efficient Privacy-Preserving Conjunctive Searchable Encryption For Cloud-Iot Healthcare Systems, Jiadi Ma, Tianqi Peng, Gong Bei, Muhammad Waqas, Hisham Alasmary, Sheng Chen

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

In cloud-Internet of Things (IoT) healthcare systems, private medical data leakage is a serious concern as the cloud server is not fully trusted. Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE), with necessary forward and backward privacy security properties, enables doctors to retrieve ciphertexts while guaranteeing data privacy. However, existing forward and backward private DSSE schemes are not well-suited for cloud-IoT healthcare systems with attribute-value type databases. To this end, we propose an efficient privacy-preserving conjunctive searchable encryption scheme for cloud-IoT healthcare systems, called PC-SE. It is the first conjunctive DSSE scheme designed for attribute-value type databases. Specifically, we design flexible search capabilities …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Heat exposure during strenuous exercise increases core temperature and cardiovascular strain, impairing performance and elevating the risk of heat illness. Standard countermeasures include heat acclimation, cooling, and hydration/electrolyte planning. Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid present in excitable tissues and widely used as an oral supplement; emerging human trials suggest it can augment thermoregulation, primarily by enhancing eccrine sweating and evaporative heat loss. This narrative review synthesizes mechanistic and applied evidence on taurine during exercise in hot environments and evaluates potential interactions with acclimation, cooling strategies (pre- and per-cooling), and hydration practices. Across a small number of randomized, mostly double-blind …

G-Trac: Graph-Textual Representations Alignment For Cold-Start Recommendations, Li Yang Chang, Yuan Fang, Ming Feng Tsai, Chuan Ju Wang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The cold-start problem remains a significant challenge in recommendation systems, particularly for new users or unseen items with little to no historical data. Existing methods, including graph neural networks, often struggle in such scenarios. Inspired by the success of transformer models in natural language processing, we propose G-TRAC (Graph-Textual Representations Alignment for Cold-start Recommendations), a novel approach that integrates transformer-based textual modeling with graph neural networks. By effectively leveraging both textual and structural information, G-TRAC addresses cold-start challenges more effectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate its ability to enhance recommendation quality and generalize well across diverse scenarios.
