The National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries (AASL, 2018b) indicate that school librarians should function as teachers, instructional partners, information specialists, leaders, and program administrators, and numerous studies document the important role that the school librarian plays in the teaching and learning taking place in the school (Lance & Kachel, 2018). Strong school librarians positively impact student learning. The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify, explore, and describe traits and activities of award-winning school librarians in Virginia. Ischemic limb disease continues to pose major clinical challenges. The effect of this disease causes restricted blood flow, which is followed by a limited ability to regenerate in the vascular tissues. The purpose of this study is to address the current limitations in producing large-scale generation of Smooth Muscle Cells (SMCs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and then assessing their potential therapeutic efficiency individually and in combination with endothelial cells (ECs) for vascular repair. Purpose: Sexual and gender minority people (SGM) experience multiple cancer-related disparities, including higher rates of cancer risk factors, lower rates of cancer screening, higher lifetime risk of cancer, and unmet needs throughout cancer survivorship. Although many national organizations, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Cancer Society (ACS), have emphasized the need for more cancer research among SGM communities, currently no consensus exists about the highest research priorities, promising research models, or mechanisms to support collaboration between geographically dispersed scientific teams.

As archives continue to face threats from global climate disasters and increased institutional pressure to accomplish more with fewer resources, there is a need to evolve archival practice through a sustainability lens. While archival literature has frequently discussed sustainability practices such as eco-friendly building standards, how to reduce energy consumption, and other green initiatives, less focus has been placed on the underlying structures of unsustainability. This article proposes degrowth as one framework for considering archival sustainability. Degrowth is an ecological, economic, and political theory that advocates for the deliberate reduction of activities that rely on non-renewable resources. This article draws …

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of hospitalization in the United States, resulting in many hospitalizations and deaths per year. Diabetes is an often-concurrent diagnosis that affects a large population. There is little research regarding the relationship between diabetes and the length of stay for patients hospitalized with pneumonia. This retrospective study aims to analyze whether the presence of diabetes mellitus in patients diagnosed with pneumonia increases the length of stay. Electronic medical records (EMR) from Freeman Health System in Southwest Missouri were utilized to analyze this relationship. This scholarly project examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI)–guided hemodynamic management in reducing intraoperative hypotension during non-emergent cardiac surgery. Intraoperative hypotension, defined as mean arterial pressure (MAP) below 65 mmHg, is a well-established risk factor for myocardial injury, acute kidney injury, and increased postoperative morbidity and mortality. Despite vigilant monitoring, traditional clinician-directed management remains largely reactive, intervening only after hypotension has occurred.

The project centers on a clinical case involving a 67-year-old male undergoing elective on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, during which several transient hypotensive episodes occurred despite standard anesthetic care. These events served as a catalyst for an …

Sugammadex is commonly used to antagonize neuromuscular blockade and has a clinically significant interaction with hormonal contraceptives by binding to plasma progesterone, reducing contraceptive efficacy and mimicking a missed dose. This case involved a healthy 21-year-old woman undergoing elective anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament repair whose only home medication was an oral contraceptive. She received midazolam prior to anesthesia assessment, limiting her ability to retain education, and counseling occurred at a suboptimal time without a support person present. Postoperative education was verbally relayed without standardized documentation or accountability. This project examined whether implementation of a standardized protocol regarding …

Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is a rare variant of lichen planus characterized by macules of black or dark brown color distributed in the sun-exposed areas of the body. It is common among individuals with darker skin, with cases reported in the Middle East, Korea, Japan, and Latin America. Genital involvement is rare, with no reported cases describing isolated penile disease. Management of genital LPP is also challenging due to the sensitive nature of the skin and the associated risks of long-term topical corticosteroid use. Background: Fenestrated and branched endovascular aneurysm repair can be complicated by branch vessel occlusion in the absence of structural stenosis. We hypothesized that computational flow simulation could identify adverse hemodynamic features associated with postfenestrated and branched endovascular aneurysm repair branch occlusion.

Methods: Patients undergoing 4-vessel fenestrated and branched endovascular aneurysm repair for Extent II to IV thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms were retrospectively reviewed. Branches that occluded without identifiable kinking or stenosis on computed tomography were included, along with an equal cohort of anatomy-matched patent controls. This paper explores the sustainability potential of food and farming culture, which is largely overlooked by mainstream approaches for transitioning food systems. I present two cases where food and farming culture is alive and thriving—in the Maya-Achí territory of Guatemala and in Wales—illustrating how cultural practices and values may contribute to global sustainability challenges and resilience.

Chronic Facial Abscess Mimicking Cervicofacial Actinomyces From Dermal Filler Migration: Case Report, Monika Ziogaite, Sarah Mannlein, Nicole Bender, Scott J. Mahlberg

Dermal fillers are commonly used for facial augmentation, but delayed complications such as granulomatous inflammation and filler migration can mimic chronic bacterial infections, such as cervicofacial actinomycosis, and lead to diagnostic misdirection. We present the case of a woman aged 56 years with a chronic, draining abscess on the right cheek that persisted for 3 years and was initially suspected to represent cervicofacial actinomycosis. Tissue cultures were negative, and histopathologic analysis following excisional biopsy revealed polymethyl methacrylate microspheres and hyaluronic acid surrounded by granulomatous inflammation and reactive lymphoid aggregates, consistent with a foreign body reaction to dermal filler. KBG syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterised by developmental delay, characteristic facial features, macrodontia and skeletal anomalies, caused by mutations in the ANKRD11 gene. We report a 5.5-year-old Moroccan boy who presented in 2022 to a tertiary military teaching hospital in Rabat, Morocco, with psychomotor delay, autistic traits, epilepsy, bilateral hearing loss with chronic otomastoiditis and radiologically-detected macrodontia before clinical eruption, in whom artificial intelligence-assisted facial phenotyping suggested the diagnosis, subsequently confirmed by identification of a novel nonsense mutation (c.1977C>G; p.Tyr659Ter).
