Friedreich's ataxia (FA) is a leading form of hereditary ataxia caused by autosomal recessive mutations in frataxin (FXN). GAA triplet repeat expansions lead to lower levels of FXN expression, abnormal influx of iron into mitochondria, and damage to the nervous system. Patients typically present before the second decade with loss of muscular function, speech impediments, and cardiomyopathy. At later stages, vision loss typically manifests. Work is under way to develop gene therapies that address the cardiac and CNS manifestations, but their routes of administration do not lead to efficient transduction of the retina. This qualitative phenomenological study examined how Black Baby Boomer and Millennial women perceive and internalize the Superwoman Schema (SWS), a cultural expectation emphasizing strength, emotional restraint, and self-sacrifice. Grounded in Black feminist thought, the analysis explored how the SWS is passed down like prayer, quietly inherited, spiritually charged, and embedded in the everyday practices of survival. Four themes emerged: Being Everything to Everybody, Carrying It All Until It Breaks You, We Were Taught Not to Say No, and Learning to Put the Cape Down. INTRODUCTION: On April 24, 2025, the International Law and Social Science Interest Group debuted at the ASIL Annual Meeting with a panel that posed a deceptively simple question: how can social science tools advance the work of international lawyers? Chaired by Chantal Thomas, the session brought together Matthew Erie, Wolfgang Alschner, Beth Simmons, and Katerina Linos— scholars who bridge doctrinal and empirical inquiry—to show how ethnography, computational text analysis, counterfactual inference, and mixed-method design can illuminate legal puzzles that doctrine alone cannot solve. While existing research has identified various predictors of teacher job satisfaction, many studies have not used a comprehensive model that includes both individual and job characteristics. Given the unique nature of the teaching profession, it is often examined separately from other occupations, with a tendency to treat the challenges of teaching as inherent and unchangeable aspects of the role. Shoulder dislocations are prevalent on Earth and pose unique challenges in spaceflight and spaceflight training, particularly during extravehicular activities (EVAs). This case report describes a 50-year-old male who experienced an anterior shoulder dislocation while performing an emergency egress exercise in a SpaceX EVA suit. The report describes the medical thought process, the operational constraints, and the reduction techniques employed to achieve a successful shoulder reduction without fully removing or damaging the suit. NASA estimates a high likelihood of shoulder injuries during long-duration lunar missions, emphasizing the importance of suit designs and rescue protocols. Hyperbolic claims that SLA is in crisis (!), that a unifying theory is overdue, or that research must be oriented toward pedagogy have resurfaced once again—most recently in the response by Lantolf et al. (2025) to the Special Issue on Synergies in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLA/T) (Atkinson et al., 2025). Our own position is diametrically opposed to such claims.

Many journalism programs embrace the teaching hospital model because of its practical approach, employing working journalists as journalism educators. However, critics contend a more conceptual model of journalism education is needed. This essay explores the literature on journalism education models and seeks to integrate the teaching hospital and entrepreneurial journalism approaches with the revised Bloom's Taxonomy and Fink's Taxonomy of Significant Learning. Combined, these models provide a solid theoretical foundation for practical, applied journalism education. Objectives: Vasculopathy and fibrosis are central to the pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis (SSc) and their genetic underpinnings are largely unknown. Here, we sought to examine the aetiology of severe vascular phenotypes and poorer outcomes in African American (AA) patients with SSc.

Methods: The study focuses on AA patients with SSc who have more severe vascular phenotypes and poorer outcomes and combines genetics, single-cell RNA sequencing, functional assays, and a mouse model to explore the role of NOTCH4 in SSc vasculopathy and the potential for NOTCH4-directed therapies.

Solar flare prediction is a central challenge in space weather forecasting, with direct implications for satellite operations, aviation safety, and power grid reliability. Machine learning has achieved state-of-the-art performance for this task, particularly when applied to photospheric magnetic field parameters. FlaPLeT is an open-source, full-stack web platform that supports end-to-end machine learning workflows for multivariate time-series–based solar flare prediction without requiring any coding expertise. Background

The Zanzibar archipelago has been a pre-elimination region for malaria thanks to rigorous control interventions, but recent surges in malaria cases have been observed. The contribution of non-falciparum species to the current malaria situation is unknown.

Method

This study investigates the epidemiology of falciparum and non-falciparum malaria species in Zanzibar. Leveraging plasma extracted from dried blood spots (DBS) collected during reactive case detection (RCD) activities across Unguja island from May 2022 to January 2023, we measured immunoglobulin G (IgG) responses to Plasmodium MSP1-19kD antigens using a multiplex bead-based immunoassay. Additionally, active infections were detected using species-specific real-time PCR.

This study examines the extent to which Indian technology equities generate sufficient returns relative to their inherent volatility and assesses whether intra-sector diversification can improve outcomes in this dynamic, high-risk sector. Drawing on data from January 2020 to April 2025, ten leading firms are analyzed using an integrated approach that incorporates traditional risk-adjusted indicators, downside-sensitive metrics, and a six-factor model featuring momentum. The results show clear heterogeneity in performance. Mid-cap innovators such as Persistent Systems and Coforge deliver positive and, in some cases, statistically significant alphas, while large-cap stocks including Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Wipro provide stability but …

Background: Lead (Pb) persists in urban soils, where its partitioning among geochemical fractions governs mobility, bioavailability, and human health risk. These fractions are strongly controlled by soil physicochemical properties, necessitating site-specific remediation strategies. Methods: This study developed a site-specific Pb immobilization framework linking amendment selection to soil geochemistry and sustainability considerations. Pb-contaminated residential soils from three U.S. cities, San Antonio (alkaline), Baltimore (acidic), and Detroit (near-neutral), were treated with gypsum, biochar + lime, and alum, respectively. Despite extensive research on work-family conflict (WFC), questions remain about when and why job stress translates into family domain interference. Drawing on Conservation of Resources (COR) theory (Hobfoll, 1989), this study examines whether emotional exhaustion mediates the relationship between job stress and WFC, and whether authoritarian leadership moderates this process. Using data from 1,095 U.S. employees, we find that emotional exhaustion serves as a key mediating mechanism, consistent with resource depletion arguments. More importantly, we demonstrate that authoritarian leadership significantly amplifies the stress-exhaustion relationship through mechanisms identified in prior research: reduced autonomy, increased monitoring, and blocked recovery. The principal objective of this thesis is, in a nutshell, to provide robust estimators of multivariate location and scale which have reasonable to high model efficiency but avoid high computational complexity so as to be practically useful in real problems. We utilize the minimum density power divergence (DPD) and the related philosophy to invoke robustness. There are some computational issues while minimizing the DPD in different multivariate set-ups.
