Background/aim: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. Studies have shown that B cells may play an important role in the induction and progression of MS. Switch-associated protein 70 (SWAP-70) is a signal transduction molecule abundantly expressed in B cells and involved in B-cell polarization, directed migration, endothelial cell adhesion, and tissue homing. B-cell stimuli increase its expression. SWAP-70 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders, including MS. This study aims to investigate the effects of acquired SWAP-70 inhibition on immune cell subsets in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).

Background/aim: Achillea millefolium L., a plant rich in phenolics and flavonoids, has been shown to possess strong antioxidant and cytotoxic properties. However, no pharmaceutical formulations have yet been developed for this plant. This study aimed to create and characterize an A. millefolium extract with high antioxidant and cytotoxic activities.

Materials and methods: A total of 10 extracts were prepared from the plant’s aerial parts using ethanol concentrations ranging from 10% to 99.9%. Background/aim: Oleanolic acid–chitosan compound (OAC) shows potent antinonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) activity, but its mechanisms remain unclear. This study elucidates how OAC modulates autophagy and apoptosis via the Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog/Protein Kinase B (PTEN/AKT) signaling pathway.

Materials and methods: Oleanolic acid was coupled with chitosan to synthesize OAC. A549 and MRC-5 cells were cultured in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium and Minimum Essential Medium, respectively, supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum and penicillin–streptomycin. Background/aim: Obesity impairs male fertility through metabolic dysfunction, oxidative stress, and disruption of the hypothalamic– pituitary–testicular (HPT) axis. Adropin (ADR), a peptide hormone whose circulating levels are reduced in obesity, plays emerging roles in metabolic homeostasis; however, its involvement in reproductive endocrine regulation remains unclear. Background/aim: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph), which occurs as a result of t(9;22). In 5%–10% of CML cases, variant t(9;22)s are observed. Additionally, while t(9;22) is formed, deletions can be observed in chromosomes 9 and 22. These deletions are observed more frequently in variant t(9;22). This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was a staff education initiative to address polypharmacy and increase medication adherence among older adults in a primary care setting. Polypharmacy is a prevalent and significant safety concern in older adults, increasing the risk for adverse drug events, medication nonadherence, hospitalizations, and decreased quality of life. The purpose of the project was to implement and evaluate a structured staff education focused on evidence-based strategies for medication review, deprescribing, and the integration of smartphone-based adherence tools. A 66-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus and known gastroparesis presented to the emergency department with fatigue, confusion, and hypoglycemia. During hospitalization, he developed worsening abdominal pain and distention. CT revealed marked gastric distention, extensive portal venous gas, and mesenteric air, raising concern for emphysematous gastritis, gastric outlet obstruction, or volvulus. Despite these alarming radiographic findings, the patient remained hemodynamically stable, with no peritoneal signs. Surgical consultation was obtained; however, given his clinical stability and history of gastroparesis, conservative management was pursued. Treatment included nasogastric decompression, IV fluids, and prokinetic therapy with metoclopramide and erythromycin. Within 48 hours, the …

Purpose: High stress, moral distress, and burnout are common in nursing workplaces and are associated with poorer patient and nurse outcomes. Research showed that excessive work-related stress was a growing problem for the nursing workforce prior to the Covid-19 pandemic (Bakhamis et al., 2019). However, working conditions became considerably more stressful because pandemic-related workplace changes made previous methods of caring, connecting empathetically with patients, and behaving altruistically difficult to impossible for nurses to achieve (Foli et al., 2021; McAndrew et al., 2023). Introduction / Rationale: Nuclear tests conducted by the United States caused significant damage to the environment and traditional food sources in the Marshall Islands. The Marshall Islanders began to depend on imported processed food, but the change of diet resulted in significant increases in chronic diseases, in addition to cancers and birth defects associated with nuclear radiation. Since the 1986 Compact of Free Association, over 15,000 Marshallese have relocated to the United States, and the majority live in one U.S. state. This community of Marshallese has the highest prevalence rate for type 2 diabetes in the world.
