Brain glucose dysregulation is shared by Alzheimer's disease (AD) and diabetes, but whether it arises from central or peripheral mechanisms remains unclear. Amylin, a pancreatic hormone, normally supports CNS cAMP-PKA signaling, metabolism and memory; however, prediabetes-associated hypersecretion disrupts this balance. Using human amylin-inducible mice, we show that toggling amylin secretion during metabolic stress bidirectionally regulates brain glycolysis and function. Excess amylin overactivates cAMP-PKA signaling, suppressing glycolysis and inducing Tau-Ser214 phosphorylation, two core features of AD pathology. This state is accompanied by activation of the amino acid starvation response, Tau-T231 hyperphosphorylation, pTau-Aβ coupling, neuroinflammation and memory deficit. In contrast, reducing amylin …

BACKGROUND: Pre-operative methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization has been associated with increased risk of post-operative infection and medical complications in lower-extremity arthroplasty; however, its impact on outcomes following total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) remains poorly understood. This study aims to evaluate the association between MRSA colonization and early medical as well as mid-term implant-related complications after primary TSA.

Introduction. This study examines algorithm aversion in digital library contexts, where users increasingly encounter algorithm-enabled services. Prior research in healthcare and finance shows that users often resist algorithmic systems even when they outperform human alternatives, yet little is known about how this phenomenon manifests in the digital libraries context. Method. As part of an ongoing project, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 18 users from two Chinese universities. Participants were selected through theoretical sampling. In an HP action, the Appellate Term modified a Civil Court order, partially granting the tenant's motion for a sealing order. The tenant had appealed the denial of her sealing application, which followed the dismissal of her HP petition. The court found good cause under NYCRR 216.1(a) to seal specific pages of the petition. It determined that threats to the tenant's personal safety from former illegal occupants outweighed the public interest in disclosure, especially since the individuals were evicted and the HP proceeding was discontinued. The sealed documents did not relate to housing standards enforcement.

In this illegal lockout proceeding (RPAPL § 713[10]), the Appellate Term affirmed a judgment of possession awarded to the tenant after a nonjury trial. The trial court found that the tenant was, at the very least, a constructive tenant of the premises, a determination supported by leases and DHCR records. The Appellate Term held that the trial court's factual findings regarding constructive possession should not be disturbed on appeal unless its conclusions could not be reached under any fair interpretation of the evidence, giving substantial deference to the trier of fact's credibility determinations.

The tenant, the deceased tenant's wife, failed to establish succession rights to the rent-stabilized apartment. The court found that the tenant did not meet the burden of proof to show the apartment was her primary residence for two years prior to the tenant's death. Testimony from the building superintendent and documentary evidence, including the tenant's cell phone bills, credit card bills, and driver's license, supported the finding that the tenant did not primarily reside at the premises.

Flash droughts are characterized by rapid onset and intensification, with severe impacts on agriculture and ecosystems. They often begin as meteorological droughts and, if conditions worsen, evolve into agricultural droughts. While precipitation deficit is often the primary driver, atmospheric and hydrological anomalies can exacerbate flash drought development. This study characterizes flash droughts across the Contiguous United States using remote sensing data from 2003 to 2020. A combination of satellite-derived meteorological, agricultural, and ecological variables are used to investigate large-scale flash drought development. Events are defined using root-zone soil moisture. We used the Aridity Index to assess how background aridity influences …
