Water And Leadership, Emma Allington May 2022

Water And Leadership, Emma Allington

Blog Archive: River Reflections at the University of Dayton

My experience with the Rivers Institute and water has helped me to bring more of myself to the table in roles of leadership. The most recent module of the Environmental Justice Academy (EJA) serves as an excellent example of this. Katie, another Stew, and I have assisted the steering team by planning and facilitating high-energy icebreakers to open the second day of the monthly modules.

Water Leadership, Kelsey Saylor

Blog Archive: River Reflections at the University of Dayton

Ever since I was a little girl, the water is something that has always inspired me. My entire life has revolved around various bodies of water that have shaped who I am today. When I was young, my family would go to Topsail Island, NC and my cousins and I spent hours of our lives exploring the shores of the Atlantic. As I got older my family spent most of our time around lake Pymatuning in western Pennsylvania. My sister and I spent more time in the water than out, completely convinced we were mermaids. The water has become an …

Arkansas Related Civil War Holdings At Public Institutions Of Higher Education In The State, David Sesser May 2022

Arkansas Related Civil War Holdings At Public Institutions Of Higher Education In The State, David Sesser

The Southeastern Librarian

An examination of a library collection using an existing comprehensive bibliography on a particular subject allows librarians to make collection development decisions. In this study, the collections of each public university in Arkansas is examined for Civil War related titles, compiled from two historiographical articles which appeared in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly. The results indicate that collections in the state contain a wide range of items included in the search. The data gathered in this project may help librarians at these institutions and others in the state determine what items need to be added to their respective collections in order …

Senior Citizens And Digital Information Access: The Obstruction Of Comforting Silence, Rodney C. Lawley May 2022

Senior Citizens And Digital Information Access: The Obstruction Of Comforting Silence, Rodney C. Lawley

The Southeastern Librarian

This study investigates the possibility of undetected access obstructions preventing senior citizens from using digital information maintained by Alabama public libraries. Research methods include a literature review, a survey of Alabama public library administrators, and a textual analysis of online public library programming guides from four urban areas within the state. The survey gauges the perceptions, experiences, and actions of library administrators pertaining to digital library accessibility for senior citizens. The textual analysis component measures significant outreach efforts by public libraries targeting senior citizen patrons. Data collected suggest that Alabama public libraries lack unity and direction in their approach to …

Art Therapy With Juvenile Offenders-Building On Community, Strengths And Self-Esteem: A Literature Review, Rylee Donovan May 2022

Art Therapy With Juvenile Offenders-Building On Community, Strengths And Self-Esteem: A Literature Review, Rylee Donovan

Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses

The Juvenile Justice System differentiates itself from the adult criminal justice system by running on a rehabilitative model for youth offenders as opposed to a punishment and deterrence model. It is not uncommon that the youth placed in these facilities suffer from many mental health issues and have extensive trauma backgrounds leading to their delinquent behavior and crimes. Juvenile offenders are a population who are labeled as deviant and isolated from the world due to their behaviors often stemming from unhealed trauma. If left without care, these mental health concerns and unhealthy trauma responses may only perpetuate into their adult …

Implementation Of Remote Patient Monitoring To Improve Medication Adherence And Efficacy In Patients With Asthma And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Quality Improvement Project, Barbara A. Werner May 2022

Implementation Of Remote Patient Monitoring To Improve Medication Adherence And Efficacy In Patients With Asthma And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Quality Improvement Project, Barbara A. Werner

Dissertations

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are long-term respiratory diseases that can adversely affect an individual's quality of life and inflict financial strain on the patient, family, and healthcare system (Kocks et al., 2018). Adherence to prescribed inhaler medication is an integral component of effective disease management. Remote patient monitoring may serve as an effective means to proactively measure adherence with inhaled medications to improve respiratory health outcomes and decrease avoidable healthcare utilization (George & Bender, 2019). An inobtrusive device attaches to the metered dose inhaler to passively monitor the use and electronically transmit the information to a digital …

The Effects Of Access To Safe Abortion Methods On Women’S Health And Employment, Azka Imran May 2022

The Effects Of Access To Safe Abortion Methods On Women’S Health And Employment, Azka Imran

Theses and Dissertations

Abortion remains highly legally restricted in many developing countries, constraining women to unsafe providers. As of 2019, 23,000 women die each year due to unsafe abortions in low- and middle-income countries. These deaths are almost entirely preventable with universal access to safer abortion methods. In 2006, some regions in Peru, a country that legally restricts abortion except to preserve the mother’s life, adopted a harm-reduction approach to address this health issue within their legal framework. The model works by providing information on safely terminating a pregnancy using misoprostol, a drug generally prescribed by a gastroenterologist but available to women on …

Analysis Of Properties Of Asphalt Binder With The Addition Of Lignin, Frank A. Martin Junior May 2022

Analysis Of Properties Of Asphalt Binder With The Addition Of Lignin, Frank A. Martin Junior

Honors College Theses

As asphalt ages, its resistance to shear diminishes due to a change in composition, resulting in the need for repaving of roads. Current additives to asphalt binder focus on increasing the strength of the binder, but do nothing to prevent the ageing of the asphalt binder. Lignin is a biological additive that is known for its resistance to ultraviolet radiation. This research aims to study Lignin as an asphalt additive, which exhibits properties that can increase the resistance of degradation due to aging, as well as increasing the strength of the asphalt binder. This was done through the comparison of …

The Potential Role Of Phenotypic Plasticity In The Ability Of Hydrocotyle Bonariensis To Occupy Two Different Habitats, Harold Ralph Parsons Iii May 2022

The Potential Role Of Phenotypic Plasticity In The Ability Of Hydrocotyle Bonariensis To Occupy Two Different Habitats, Harold Ralph Parsons Iii

Honors College Theses

Phenotypic plasticity is the ability of an organism to change morphology and/or physiology in response to changes in the environment. Hydrocotyle bonariensis is a coastal perennial herb found in both coastal sand dunes and inland coastal plain habitats in Georgia. The purpose of this study was to determine if there were differences in leaf morphology for populations of H. bonariensis in coastal sand dune and inland coastal plain habitats. Leaf morphology and microenvironmental variables were compared between H. bonariensis populations at Tybee Island (TI), GA, representing the coastal sand dune habitat, and Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus (GSU) in Savannah, …

System And Method For Electroporation Controlled By Electrical Impedance Measurements, Mark Jeffrey Jaroszeski, Timothy Fawcett, Richard Jason Connolly, Andrew M. Hoff, Reginald Morley Atkins, Douglas Walter Brown, Richard A. Gilbert

USF Patents

The present invention provides a system and a method for measuring an impedance of one or more target cells before and after an electroporation protocol has been applied to the one or more target cells. A result of the impedance measurement provides a feedback control that can be implemented during and/or after the electroporation protocol to customize an electrical treatment for a particular target cell or cellular tissue.
