Performance Of Density Estimators In Additive Measurement Error Models Based On Right Censored Data, Hrishabh Khakurel

In the deconvolution problem for right censored data, one is interested in estimating the density of a contaminated variable X when X satisfies Z= X+ E, where E is a measurement error with a known distribution, and the observable variable Z is right-censored. Zhu, Sun, Khakurel, and Wang (2021) applied the Inverse Probability of Censoring Weighted Average method and derived the estimators of the unknown density of X. Small interfering RNA (siRNA) and Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated Protein 9 (Cas9) are advanced biotechnological approaches that have been able to temporarily downregulate gene expression through post-transcription RNA interference or permanently knockdown a protein via creating a mismatch in DNA, respectively. Nucleic acids are anionic and hydrophilic molecule, which cannot enter the cell through passive diffusion and/or interaction with the cell membrane. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) offer a unique carrier for nucleic acid delivery, where positively charged components of CPP bind to the negatively charged nucleic acid and the hydrophobic components enhance the interaction with cell membrane, and …

Climate change is transforming the Arctic Ocean in unprecedented ways which can be most directly observed in the systematic decline in seasonal ice coverage. From the collection and analysis of particulate and dissolved activities of ²¹⁰Po and ²¹⁰Pb from four deepwater superstations, as a part of the US Arctic GEOTRACES cruise during 2015, and in conjunction with previously published data, the temporal and spatial variations in their activities, inventories and residence times are evaluated. Estuarine and coastal geomorphology, biogeochemistry, water quality, and coastal food webs in river-dominated shelves of the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) are modulated by transport processes associated with river inputs, winds, waves, tides, and deep-ocean/continental shelf interactions. For instance, transport processes control the fate of river-borne sediments, which in turn affect coastal land loss. Similarly, transport of freshwater, nutrients, and carbon control the dynamics of eutrophication, hypoxia, harmful algal blooms, and coastal acidification. Further, freshwater inflow transports pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and oil into receiving estuaries and coastal systems. This paper discusses the application of acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP) for the quantification of transport of water and the underlining physical mechanism. The transport of water through estuaries and tidal inlets is affected by tide, river flow, and wind. It is often assumed that wind effects in such systems are negligible unless under severe weather conditions. This study compares the ADCP-measured flows across a tidal inlet under weak wind conditions in late spring and those after the passage of an atmospheric cold front in winter. Worth A Shot: Encouraging Vaccine Uptake Through “Empathy”, Dr. Jody Lyneé Madeira

Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law

Pro- and anti-vaccine organizations and individuals have frequently invoked empathy as a strategy for increasing uptake of COVID-19 precautions, including vaccinations. On one hand, vaccine supporters deployed empathy to defuse conflict, prioritize safeguarding the collective welfare, and avoid government mandates. On the other hand, vaccine opponents used empathy to emphasize the alleged individual effects of pandemic precautions, mobilize public voices, and stress the importance of medical freedom in policy-making contexts.

This Article first defines empathy and reviews empathy scholarship, paying particular attention to its relationship with narrative and the contexts where empathy can be difficult or dangerous. It then applies …

Post-secondary peer education provides both academic support and employment opportunities for students. Traditionally, this valuable resource has been held in person at specified tutoring centers on college campuses. Recently, in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for online academic support options is higher than ever. This study surveyed both tutors and students who taught or attended tutoring through both in-person and online formats throughout their time at South Dakota State University (SDSU). Twenty-six tutors and forty students completed this survey to generate both quantitative and qualitative data. Results of both the tutor and student survey showed that an …

The Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced to Congress in 1923, passed through both houses of Congress in 1972, but failed to be ratified by the number of states necessary to become a Constitutional amendment. There are numerous social, political, and economic factors that have contributed to the successes and failures of the ERA over the years, but little research has been done to determine how these individual instances influence one another long term. VisualCommunity is a platform designed to support community or neighborhood scale research. The platform integrates mobile, AI, visualization techniques, along with tools to help domain researchers, practitioners, and students collecting and working with spatialized video and geo-narratives.
