Quality-Quantity Tradeoff Of Children In Egypt, Ehab Sakr, Mona Khalifa, Farouk Shoieb, Sayed Khater May 2022

Quality-Quantity Tradeoff Of Children In Egypt, Ehab Sakr, Mona Khalifa, Farouk Shoieb, Sayed Khater

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In Egypt, children are still seen as a source of income. We would, therefore, expect that quantity–quality tradeoff decisions are central in shaping fertility and education choices so that a negative causal effect of family size on child’s schooling exists. In this paper we argue that families display degrees of trading off quantity for quality and that this range of reactions is affected by socioeconomic, cultural and demographic covariates. The dataset used is that of the Egypt Labor Market Panel Survey (ELMPS) 2012. The sample includes 6,808 individuals in the age group (18-30). By applying cluster analysis, the sample was …

Robust Bayesian Analysis For Shape Parameters With Progressive Type-Ii Censoring, N. Wheed, M. M. Nassar, M. Mahmoud, M. Yusuf

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In this paper, we discuss the robustness of bayesian estimation for the exponentiated inverted Weibull distribution and the inverted Kumaraswamy distribution under progressive type-II censored samples. To estimate the unknown shape parameters of the two distributions, we use Lindley approximation to obtain Bayes estimates using the loss functions; square error loss function, linex loss function and general entorpy loss function under the non-informative and informative priors for the parameters. A simulation study is conducted to compare different estimates and the actual values of the shape parameters. Our aim is to study the robustness of estimation with regard to the three …

A New Two-Parameter Estimator In The Linear Regression Model With Correlated Regressors, Abiola T. Owolabi, Kayode Ayinde, Janet I. Idowu, Olasunkanmi J. Oladapo, Dewale F. Lukman

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

The inefficiency of the ordinary least square estimator for the parameter estimation of a linear regression model with multicollinearity problem has led to the development of various ridge regression estimators. These estimators are recently classified as one-parameter and two-parameter ridge-type estimators. This paper proposes a new two-parameter estimator following a newly developed one-parameter ridge estimator to handle multicollinearity in the linear regression model. Theoretical and simulation results show that, under some conditions, the proposed estimator performs better than some popular existing estimators in that it has a smaller mean square error. Furthermore, we used real-life data to illustrate the papers …

An Improved Alternative Method Of Imputation For Missing Data In Survey Sampling, G. N. Singh, Ashok. K. Jaiswal, Chandraketu Singh, M. Usman

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In the present paper, a new and improved method of ratio type imputation and corresponding point estimator to estimate the finite population mean is proposed in case of missing data problem. It has been shown that this estimator utilizes the readily available auxiliary information efficiently and gives better results than the ratio and mean methods of imputation; furthermore, its efficiency is also compared with the regression method of imputation and some other imputation methods, discussed in this article, using four real data sets. A simulation study is carried out to verify theoretical outcomes, and suitable recommendations are made.

Solving Bi-Level Multi-Objective Quadratic Programming Problem With Neutrosophic Parameters In Objective Functions And Constraints Using Fuzzy Approach, O. E. Emam, A. Abdo, A. M. Youssef

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

This paper aims to present the neutrosophic technique and fuzzy approach to determine the preferred compromise solution for bi-level multi-objective quadratic programming problem with neutrosophic parameters in both the objective functions and constraints. The introduced technique starts firstly to convert the neutrosophic parameters that exist in the objective functions to crisp numbers then convert the neutrosophic parameters that exist in the constraints to crisp numbers. After that, we applied the fuzzy approach to determine the optimal solution for our bi-level multi-objective quadratic programming problem (BLMOQP). Keywords:

Profile Monitoring For Com-Poisson Responses, El-Housainy A. Rady, Hadel Z. Ahmed, S. M. Mohamed

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In real case problems, the relationship between the response variable and one or more explanatory variables is called profile that should be monitored over time instead of the quality characteristic itself. Profile monitoring is used in such instances. Many researches have been done in profile monitoring but most of them assumed that the response variable follows normal distribution. In this paper, we will obtain the form of the Sum Com-Poisson likelihood equation and the parametric estimation. For a random sample Y1. . . YN, where P(Yi = yi | λ, ν,m), i = 1, . . . ,N. where the …

On Compare Robust Wilks’ Statistics For The One-Way Manova: A Simulation Study And Application, Abdullah A. Ameen, Osama H. Abbas May 2022

On Compare Robust Wilks’ Statistics For The One-Way Manova: A Simulation Study And Application, Abdullah A. Ameen, Osama H. Abbas

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

The classical Wilks’ statistic is mostly used to test hypotheses in the one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), which is highly sensitive to the effects of outliers. The non-robustness of the test statistics based on normal theory has led many authors to examine various options. In 2010, Todorov and Filzmoser proposed a robust Wilks’ statistic depends on reweighted minimum covariance determinant estimator (RMCD) and constructed its approximate distribution. In this paper, we presented a robust version of the Wilks’ statistics based on reweighted minimum covariance determinant estimator and reweighted minimum volume ellipsoid estimator, and constructed it’s another approximate distribution depends …

A New Discrete Mean Residual Life Order And Its Reliability Applications, Karim Rashad Ashour, A-Hadi N. Ahmed

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

The purpose of this paper is to introduce study and analyze a new stochastic order that lies in the framework of the discrete mean residual life and the convexity orders. Several preservation properties of the new order under reliability operations of monotone transformation, mixture, weighted distributions and shock models are discussed. In addition, two characterization properties of the new order based on the concept of discrete residual life at random time and the concept of excess lifetime in discrete renewal processes are given. Finally, we introduce some new applications of this order in the context of reliability theory.

Statistical Inferences Of Reduced Modified Weibull Distribution Under Progressive Type-Ii Censoring Data, Saad J. Almalki, Gamal. A. Abd-Elmougod, Maie J. Al-Malki

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In reliability engineering and lifetime analysis many applications required a bathtub shaped or increasing hazard rate function. In this paper, we considered a reduced form of the new modified Weibull (NMW) distribution when the data are presented in the form of progressive type-II censoring data. The parameter estimators under maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) for point and approximate confidence interval are presented. Also, Bayesian approach under simulate posterior distribution with the help of MCMC the method is adopted. The developed results discussed with data analysis and assessed with Moto Carlo simulation study.

Empirical Bayes Inference For Rayleigh Distribution, Maryam Al-Ameen, Yahia Abdel-Aty May 2022

Empirical Bayes Inference For Rayleigh Distribution, Maryam Al-Ameen, Yahia Abdel-Aty

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

This paper proposes the empirical Bayes inference for Rayleigh distribution. The empirical Bayes point estimation of the parameter, reliability and hazard function under symmetric (square error) and asymmetric (linear exponential and general entropy) loss functions are obtained. Besides, the maximum likelihood and Bayes estimators are computed too. The Bayes and empirical Bayes prediction interval also derived, where one and two sample prediction are considered. Numerical computations are established by using the Monto Carlo simulation method where the mean square errors are derived to assess and make comparisons among different estimators. The study was constructed based on progressively type-II censoring scheme.

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In this paper, Burr Lindley (BL) distribution is constructed as a composition structure between Lindley and Burr distributions to induce a more flexible model for the hydrology data than its parents where it has decreasing and inverted bathtub shapes for the hazard rate function. Several statistical and reliability properties of the BL distribution are obtained, such as the behavior of its density and hazard rate functions, survival and residual life functions, Shannon entropy, limiting distributions and characterization via right truncated moments. For parameter estimation, the maximum likelihood estimators as well as the Fisher information matrix are investigated. Moreover, the simulation …

Indian Higher Education In World University Rankings – The Importance Of Reputation And Branding, Ashwin Jerome Fernandes, Balvinder Shukla, Habib Fardoun May 2022

Indian Higher Education In World University Rankings – The Importance Of Reputation And Branding, Ashwin Jerome Fernandes, Balvinder Shukla, Habib Fardoun

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

Branding in higher education gives institutions an identity that locates them in the social world. Although the promotion of branding assists in innovative ways to promote the development of a product or service, the contribution is equally as important as recognizing that branding goes beyond the promotion. Branding essentially holds corporations and institutions, such as higher education institutions, accountable for the worth of the product or service they offer. Branding is the intangible feature an organisation or institution upholds and delivers. The implications of branding initiatives in higher education are shown to be beneficial in the overall success of an …

Discrete Mean Inactivity Time Function, Associated Orderings, And Classes Of Life Distributions, Karim Rashad Ashour, El Sayed Ahmed El Sherpieny, A-Hadi N. Ahmed

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

The concept of mean inactivity time plays an important role in reliability and life testing. In this investigation, based on the comparison of mean inactivity times of a certain function of two lifetime random variables, we introduce and study a new stochastic order. This new order lies between the reversed hazard rate and the mean inactivity time orders. Several characterizations and preservation properties of the new order under reliability operations of monotone transformation, mixture, and shock models are discussed. In addition, a new class of life distributions called strong increasing mean inactivity time is proposed, and some of its reliability …

The goodness of fit to real data set shows the superiority of the new distribution.

Accelerated Life Testing For Bivariate Distributions Based On Progressive Censored Samples With Random Removal, El-Sayed A. El-Sherpieny, Hiba Z. Muhammed, Ehab M. Almetwally May 2022

Accelerated Life Testing For Bivariate Distributions Based On Progressive Censored Samples With Random Removal, El-Sayed A. El-Sherpieny, Hiba Z. Muhammed, Ehab M. Almetwally

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

The significance of the statistical inference problem in reliability theory for the bivariate models under accelerated life testing (ALT) is enormous. In practice, independent variables are assumed for the sake of convenience, which contradicts the nature of the problem. The constant stress accelerated life testing (CS-ALT) for the bivariate model based on copula function is introduced in this study. The copula is the method that describes the dependence structure between variables. The model parameters are evaluated using maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation methods, taking into account that units fail due to only two dependent variables under continuous stress ALTs and …

Out of recognition of experienced trauma, trauma-informed practices have existed in schools and classrooms long before the start of the pandemic and will continue to exist and evolve after. Programs need to evolve due to the changing nature of the pandemic such as the possibility of teachers experiencing trauma alongside their students, and distance learning complicating the ability of students to make connections with peers, teachers, and administrators. Limited literature currently exists in the field showcasing how teachers have changed and updated their practices since the start of the pandemic. The objective of this action research is to add to …

Spectral Signatures Of Hydrogen Thioperoxide (Hosh) And Hydrogen Persulfide (Hssh): Possible Molecular Sulfur Sinks In The Dense Ism, Charles Z. Palmer, Ryan C. Fortenberry, Joseph S. Francisco May 2022

Spectral Signatures Of Hydrogen Thioperoxide (Hosh) And Hydrogen Persulfide (Hssh): Possible Molecular Sulfur Sinks In The Dense Ism, Charles Z. Palmer, Ryan C. Fortenberry, Joseph S. Francisco

Faculty and Student Publications

For decades, sulfur has remained underdetected in molecular form within the dense interstellar medium (ISM), and somewhere a molecular sulfur sink exists where it may be hiding. With the discovery of hydrogen peroxide (HOOH) in the ISM in 2011, a natural starting point may be found in sulfur-bearing analogs that are chemically similar to HOOH: hydrogen thioperoxide (HOSH) and hydrogen persulfide (HSSH). The present theoretical study couples the accuracy in the anharmonic fundamental vibrational frequencies from the explicitly correlated coupled cluster theory with the accurate rotational constants provided by canonical high-level coupled cluster theory to produce rovibrational spectra for use …
