Importance: Despite prevalent polysubstance use, treatment patterns and outcomes for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and cooccurring substance use disorders (SUD) are understudied.

Objective: To evaluate the distribution of buprenorphine and naltrexone initiation among individuals with OUD with vs without cooccurring SUD and to assess the comparative effectiveness associated with buprenorphine and naltrexone against drug-related poisonings.

BACKGROUND: Disrupted and delayed Medicaid coverage has been consistently associated with lower rates of cancer screening and early-stage cancer diagnosis compared with continuous coverage. However, the relationships between Medicaid coverage timing, breast cancer treatment delays, and survival are less clear.

METHODS: Using the linked Missouri Cancer Registry-Medicaid claims data, we identified 4583 women diagnosed with breast cancer between 2007 and 2016. We used logistic regression to estimate odds ratios (ORs) of late-stage diagnosis and treatment delays for prediagnosis (>30 days, >90 days, and >1 year before diagnosis) vs peridiagnosis enrollment. This disclosure describes techniques for detection of text cutoff in captured images of documents that include text. Optical character recognition (OCR) is applied to an input image. A bounding box for each text character (OCR symbol) is determined, defined by x and y coordinates of its four corners. A feature vector is determined and utilized to represent the spatial location of OCR symbols extracted from the image. The feature vector is constructed based on OCR symbol coordinates and is provided to a trained classifier to determine a class label for the input document, indicating whether the document includes text cutoff. …

This paper analyzes the development of James I’s theory of divine right in England and how its application elevated the sovereignty of the monarch to the extent of absolutism in the early seventeenth century. Since divine right ultimately conflicted with the ancient laws and customs of the English government, James’s theory provoked newfound interpretations of the political and judicial authority of the ruler. Due to its nice mathematical properties and its usefulness for modeling failure time data, the beta exponentiated distribution is utilized to construct a mixture distribution that would be useful in a variety of applications. Describing income distributions is one of these applications. For this purpose a mixture of the beta exponential and inverted beta exponential distributions is constructed and studied. Approximate formulas for the expected value of the mixture are obtained. The model parameters are estimated using maximum likelihood and applied to real data as well as simulated data.

Background: Posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) are common following trauma exposure. Identification of individuals with PTSS at the time of emergency care is important to enable preventive interventions. In this study, we used baseline survey data from two large prospective cohort studies to identify the most influential predictors of PTSS at the time of presentation for emergency care and to develop a clinical decision support tool to identify individuals who develop substantial PTSS.

Disease etiology involves genetic and environmental factors, with 29 independent AD risk loci enriched for risk allele-dependent gene expression in the skin and CD4+ T cell compartments. The role of load in strength training is being debated in the literature, with studies reporting similar changes in skeletal muscle size following fatiguing low-load and high-load training. Electromyographic (EMG) signal recording can be utilized to compare muscle activity between fatiguing low-load and high-load training, but little is known about the behavior of the biceps brachii muscle during shortening (concentric) and lengthening (eccentric) muscle actions. We sought to compare changes in EMG amplitude throughout fatiguing low-load versus high-load resistance training during both concentric and eccentric muscle actions.

This study explores the feelings and opportunities that international students experience while they are studying abroad. Specifically, it investigates acculturation and adaptation to the host country, the students’ cultural identity and sense of belonging, as well as implications for support provided by the host institution.

In order to evaluate these components, an online survey, compiled of 24 open-ended and multiple-choice questions, was distributed to international students at the University of San Diego, asking them to describe their experiences and any indications of challenge and support from the institution in relation to their sense of belonging.
